Venue Of My Dreams

January 3rd, 2008 @ 3:27 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

This post is long overdue.  Back in October, the very same week I received the email from Mrs. Bee to join weddingbee, I booked my venue!

After finally deciding to have our wedding in Cancun, I researched all summer about where we should have our wedding and it finally paid off. An invaluable resource I used was the Best Destination Wedding Forum.

Best Destination Wedding Forum

Not only is great for Cancun brides like myself, it has great information on other destinations such as Cabo, Hawaii, Jamaica…(I can go on and on). It has everything from accommodations and vendors to wedding reviews and suggestions about what to put in OOT bags. If you are a destination bride, this site is a must! Tammy aka “host” runs the site and all the brides (and other posters) on that site are so nice and helpful.I knew I wanted an all-inclusive resort as opposed to a regular (European plan) hotel because I knew most of my guests like the convenience of having food and drinks readily accessible. In the beginning, I wanted to have my wedding at a Palace Resort; but that fell through for various reasons. Then I looked into the Riu Resorts until I found “the one.”

The Best Destination Wedding Forum was crucial in helping me decide on a wedding venue because it helped me weigh the pros and cons of each hotel. It was helpful to hear why certain brides chose the hotels they did and why they didn’t choose others. While browsing the forum, I fell in love with Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa. You could say it was love at first sight, if that can be said about a wedding venue!

When I showed Mr. Lovebird he said, and I quote: “Let’s have it here. I always wanted to get married on a cliffside. It is so romantic.” At which I turned to him and said: “Who are you? Am I the bride here or are you? And why is this the first time I’m hearing that you think getting getting married on a cliffside is ’so romantic?’”

The image “http://www.caribbeanwarehouse.co.uk/images/index/hotels/dreams-cancun/13.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

With the thumbs up from Mr. Lovebird, we reserved the first possible day available after the start of summer vacation in consideration of our younger guests. We are so excited!!! I leave you with some pictures to show you why I fell in love with Dreams…

In terms of location, Dreams can’t be beat! Dreams is also a very popular honeymoon destination. It’s not hard to see why! Our venue search took many months. This was probably due to the fact that we couldn’t physically visit each site and our correspondences were all by email. I guess it comes with the territory when you are planning a destination wedding in Cancun.

How long did it take you to book your venue?

Great choice! A couple of our good friends got married at Dreams Cancun last April and it was a spectacular setting for the wedding!

Let’s see. We got engaged last Dec 15th - which is a busy time of year - so I stated “I’m not going to start planning until after the new year!”

We did have in mind the type of wedding we’d like and a couple venues to look at. Well since my mom was in town for Christmas it just made sense to go look at one of the venues…. right :) We first saw our venue on Dec 26th. I forget exactly what he said - but Todd said something really cute when we got in the car to leave about our search being over. We took my step-father-in-law to see it on Jan 1st - and to drop off our deposit! :) So much for putting off the planning.

Oh yeah - since mom was in town we also went dress shopping! It didn’t take long to find the one and we ordered it on Dec 27th or 28th :)

(Funny cause I’m usually a really bad decision maker! I’m always the last one to order at restaurants etc.)

Thanks for your post! I was engaged since last Aug and still haven’t started to look at venues :P I do want to get married in 08 though. Still cannot make up my mind between local wedding or a destination one! I’ll definitely browse the link you suggested.

It took us a lot longer to narrow down the location than it did to pick a venue once we’d gotten that far. One of the first pages of the wedding planning notebook is an elaborate chart of pros and cons of various states (where we are now, where we’re from, where our families are now, where our families are from) as well as a small town in Ontario, a smaller town in England, and various points in New Zealand. But once we narrowed it down to Massachusetts, other things fell into place relatively quickly.

I visited Cancun in June last year and we walked down the beach to Dreams. It is one of the more prettier hotels on the strip- you picked such a great place! i’m not sure if you’ve visited the venue already but I just wanted to warn you that sometimes the music from the outside streets can be really really loud. My hotel was located at the very end of the beach strip (we chose it bc it was the most peaceful spot in regards to beach space) and we could still hear the music blasting from the main part of Cancun from our hotel room. I’m sure you’ll have better luck than we and I do wish you all the best on the rest of your planning! :)

Yeah, that looks really gorgeous. We actually changed our venue from a meadow-y private club to a historic inn with lots of gardens and character. It was one of those, oh man, we HAVE to have it here kind of things.

Can’t wait to see your pics!

[...] first I figured I’d just use the same ceremony time as other brides who had their wedding at Dreams. I’m sure they did their research, right? Then I realized that it makes a huge difference [...]
