I bought some textures from the very famous wedding photographer Jesh de Rox and finally got a chance to sit down and play with them. I come from a film background and grew up developing my own film and prints, so it took me many years to warm up to the idea of a digital slr camera, and it wasn’t until recently that I finally learned to accept photoshop (although it wasn’t easy).
So keeping in mind that I am missing some mysterious codec needed to play Jesh’s mini quicktime tutorial of how to use the textures, and I have very basic knowledge of photoshop… playing with nothing but the opacity, a few masks and feathering, I was able to create these images. The originals are on the bottom. Photoshop is definitely not for everyone (I’m still very hestitant to embrace it myself), and I am nowhere near as good as Jesh or Tim Willoughby, who I posted about earlier, but it’s a start. Let me know what you think!
Oh! and I recently killed Mr. Milkshake’s laptop (it gets the blue screen of death after about 60 seconds of starting up), so I had no personal photos to play with on the desktop computer, until I happened to stumble across photos of his parents’ wedding! I was totally excited! Some of the scans definitely showed the images’ age, so it was a little funny to alter the images when the next ones in the folder looked just as weathered with no editing.
I’ll post a tutorial on how to do this sometime down the road.
