DIY Fortune Cookie Soap Favors!

January 4th, 2008 @ 1:54 pm by Mrs. Daffodil

I’ve been meaning to post about these for months… I attended a wedding back in October where the guests received these adorable fortune cookie soap favors! And get this… the bride and her bridesmaids handmade all of these and the cost netted to ~$0.80 each!

DIY Fortune Cookie Soap Favors! : wedding diy favors los angeles Z126425 fortune cookie soaps

With the hive in mind, I of course had to inquire as to how she made them! She gave me permission to post the instructions up, so without further ado, here they are! Thanks Jean!! smiley1088

What you’ll need (makes ~275-300 favors):
All of these should be available from either Michael’s or Hobby Lobby

  • Two 2-lb tubs of glycerin gel
  • Dye
  • Fragrance
  • 3″ circular cookie cutter
  • Taffetta wraps
  • Ribbon
  • Charms

Instructions:

  • Cut up the glycerin gel into cubes
  • Melt in the microwave for ~1 minute
  • Add a few drops of dye and a few drops of fragrance
  • Mix
  • Pour a 1/4″ thick layer onto a cookie sheet
  • Let it cool for a minute or so, but make sure it is still malleable. Then take the cookie cutter and cut out circles
  • Mold the “cookie” into shape (this part is a little tricky…)
    • Fold in half by only pinching the edge…Hold on to the edge
    • With your other thumb, press the middle on the folded edge in, simultaneously pulling the two corners together
  • Type up some cute quotes or a thank you note to make the “fortunes”, print them out and cut them up, and insert them into the cookie
  • Wrap them up!

haha we did homemade fortune cookie favors too, only they were chocolate. each person got two, and on each the bottom half was dark chocolate, then they got one each where the top half was either pink or white. the white was mint-flavored and the pink was raspberry. we vacuum sealed them and put them in mini chinese takeout boxes with bags of our fave coffee/tea/homemade cocoa.

Such a cool idea I figured someone did this kind of thing. After a quick search I found this site (www.FortuneCookieSoap.com) that will do all the work for you at a good price! I went with the “Takes the Cake” (http://www.fortunecookiesoap.com/products/takes-the-cake) for my wedding party favors and it was a huge hit! If you really want to DIY they even let you customize the color, fragrance and packaging, pretty cool!
