About Mrs. Jasmine

The Frock

January 4th, 2008 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Jasmine

I was one of those little girls who didn’t believe in pants. I ascribed to a simple philosophy: why wear pants when you can wear a dress? If it didn’t twirl when I whirled around, I didn’t want to wear it.So I completely understand the importance women attach to their wedding dress. It’s the most important dress you will ever wear and only the most special gown will do.

For those of you still looking for that special dress, I suggest taking a look at The Frock, a website that sells truly gorgeous vintage dresses. Their stock is to die for and they have some absolutely breathtaking bridalgowns. These are some of my favorite pieces:

Vintage is not for everyone (neither is buying a dress off the web, for that matter), but for the right bride, The Frock has some exquisite pieces. Are any of you buying a vintage dress or a bridal gown off the web?

I LOVE that site. I spent so much time on it before buying my dress. I was a little too nervous to buy online, but it definitely gave me some great ideas. That first one is gorgeous…

I bought a 1950s cap sleave tea length dress off of ebay for my reception. I was really nervous buying off the internet but for $20 I figured if I didn’t work I was still OK. After $50 in alterations it is fabulous and I plan on wearing it again to events.

I love that second dress. Wow…I would wear that anywhere.

I bought my gown off of ebay too. If you do the research, it pays off.

I’ll be wearing my mother’s gown…restyling it for a more updated look (it’s got long sleeves; i’m having it modified into a strapless), but you should still be able to tell it was hers! It will be 28 years old when I walk down the aisle in it!

I got my dress (which was originally close to $1,000) for $522 on RKbridal.com. I would wholeheartedly recommend using them - I found the dress of my dreams and it was sent to me in 12 days (not the usual MONTHS it takes to order a gown from a boutique!).

Oooh, I love looking at The Frock. If I were just about, oh, 60 percentage points hipper, I’d totally want to retro it up with a vintage gown.

I adore The Frock! I also love Vintage Textiles, which is where I bought my antique lace dress. The difference for me is that I planned all along to do some major renovations to it, but it was definitely still a little nerve-wracking to buy a dress without trying it on.
