Get Your Photos Printed

January 7th, 2008 @ 3:31 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

A friend of mine only recently had all her negatives printed (after being married 2 years) and made parent albums.  She did not have digital photos but real film photos (wow). After getting them back from the lab, she noticed large scratches (as well as dust particles) on her photos. It’s unknown yet as to whose fault it was but, there are large scratches going across her photos like when she’s walking down the aisle. Eeeks!!!

Just a warning, have a set of all your photos printed at a decent time. Even if you have a dvd of your photos, it’s a good idea to back them up somewhere as well as making prints. CDs and DVDs can get corrupt. External hard drives can go bad. Who knows, you may also lose web access to them someday.

She may be able to salvage some of the photos by scanning the negatives with a film scanner equipped with “Digital ICE” technology. This can identify dust and scratches and remove them from the scan. Then she could print clean photos from the scans.

Great advice Mrs. Snow Pea. Such a bummer to hear your friend’s pictures were compromised. It’s a pain, but she can have them fixed in photoshop.

We wanted to make sure we ended up with prints and not just photos on our computer and our photographer offered proof prints as part of our package. As a result I have five small-ish boxes with a total of 1900 prints! I look forward to framing some, putting some in a scrap book and putting the rest in an album after we’ve make our picks for our professional album.

Hey mrs Onion,
Same here. Henry gives all the proofs in our choice of photo prints or a picture book. We opted for the prints.

snow pea — we had the same choice to make — proof prints (unmarked) or a proof book with 6 photos per page. i knew that when it came time to make our album i’d be at our table surrounded by photos and placing them in order — i couldn’t do this with a proof book. i’m too visual to have them locked in a book as it were.
