What I Did On My Christmas Vacation…

January 7th, 2008 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Corn

…otherwise more aptly titled, “The things we do for love”.

You see…Mr Corn and his cousin share the same New Year’s Eve birthday. Thirteen years ago, when Mr Corn turned 21, he made a promise to his cousin that he would take her to do anything she wanted, which included going anywhere in the United States 1st Class, when she turned 21.

Fast forward to this year and she decided she wanted to be home in Sunnyvale, CA but that she wanted to go skydiving.

Well, Mr Corn is a bit of a wuss when it comes to anything involving thrills; the man won’t even go on a kiddie roller coaster not to mention hurl himself out of a plane. So his fearless, albeit slightly insane, wife went in his place.

It was the thrill of a lifetime, but I will be honest, I have no need to ever go again!

What is something you have done for your significant other that they couldn’t/wouldn’t do themselves?

Awesome!! I love thrills - but I’m not quite sure I would actually jump!! The same way I feel about bungee jumping - I really want to do it - but don’t know if I ever will :)

My hubby loves roller coasterish thrills - but he’s not so big on heights! Hanging the Christmas lights on the house is something that I do :) Not him! Even though he has forbidden me from hanging at the edge of our two story roof ever again! I mean it was kinda scary - but I didn’t fall :) I love when people make a comment like “Todd did a great job with the lights” and I have to correct them - eh-hem, that was me climbing on the roof! Or “Hey that husband of yours sure does come in handy around Christmas doesn’t he?” no not really :) kidding!

He was very good sport during our honeymoon by doing the ‘canopy tour’ atop the cloud forest in Costa Rica. Of course he was the one hugging the trees and I was the one volunteering to do all the tricks “Me me! I’ll go upside down. Ohh I want to go superman style next!” Of course to do the tricks you have to ride tandem with a guide - he likes to tell everyone how I was straddling the locals on our trip!

OMG mrs. corn! i can’t believe this. i had a dream last night that i was signed up to go skydiving. that morning the instructor came to get me and we had a training. i got more and more scared as the day went on and the dream got more bizarre from there, but i never got to the jump (in the dream).

this is something mr. onion and his best friend have talked about doing for years now. it scared the sh*t out of me!

kudos to you for the courage!

oooh i’ve always wanted to go skydiving! in fact, it’s on my lifetime to do list. i think it’s number 5. i’m not sure anymore since i’m always adding something. lol.

while my “sacrifice” was definitely tame compared to yours, but i ate carrot cake for the bf…and even offered to have part of our wedding cake be carrot cake. its so stupid but i hate carrot cake with every fiber of my body. but you know, it made him smile to see me resist the urge to feign my own death after eating it.

Hee hee, Lillian. To be honest, I am afraid of little heights. I hate coming down from ladders, standing on chairs, and going past people in a stadium! The big heights, apparently, aren’t as much of an issue :)

And Tea…that is totally a sacrifice! Good for you!

WOW! You are a nut AND a lovely wife to do such a thing for love of Mr. Corn.

Let’s see… what do I do for mr. beanchar????

Does obsessively checking the moles on his back count? (Prob not, b/c it’s MY fear that they are changing shape and mrophing into C-A-N-C-E-R, not his.) LOL.

What a great photo! The best part is that when I clicked on it to enlarge it, I found that you named the image “crazy” :-)

Sometimes I love rides and rollercoasters, and sometimes for no reason at all I get all wussy about them. Last year we were at HersheyPark with the future in-laws and I let Mr. Cupcake go on some of the “scary” rides with his dad while I sat them out wit his mom, but I felt bad that I was being a party pooper so I went on a semi-scary one with him. Well, I should have just done the rollercoaster because this thing scared the freaking crap of out me!!!! It was one of those where you’re not strapped in b/c gravity holds you down, but we were up in the air, spinning around, and our bodies were completely sideways and parallel to the ground. But at least I went on to make him happy ;-)

Very cool! DH and I both want to try skydiving someday. I guess we’d better get going before we have kids!

This coming from a woman who gets motion sickness on the big swings at amusement parks…
