Martha Stewart’s Wedding Cakes Giveaway

January 8th, 2008 @ 6:12 pm by Contests

Congratulations to commenter #44 Catherine who won Martha Stewart’s Wedding Cakes book giveaway below!

~~~
I was lucky enough to score a copy of the stunning new book, Martha Stewart’s Wedding Cakes.  It’s so gorgeous, I’d absolutely love to keep it for myself… but I think a weddingbee reader would love it even more, so we’re giving it away!
The book showcases over 100 of the most inspirational cake creations ever featured within the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine.  There were truly too many beautiful cakes to choose from, but I thought this beehive cake featured on page 69 was particularly appropriate. :)
To enter, simply tell us your favorite cake baker!  You have until 8:00 pm EST tonight to enter.  Good luck! :)
PS - Congrats to Tea and Shannon for winning the last t-shirts in our weddingbee t-shirt giveaway!
PPS - We have another contest from from Cat Seto Custom Invitations tomorrow so stay tuned!  Don’t forget to check out Wedding Week on Cat’s blog where she’s going to be featuring her favorite wedding invitation designers, dresses, her sketches and DIY ideas.
April Reed! Her design is so clean and modern and her cakes are delicious. In lieu of a regular in-store tasting, she sends you a care package with 10 little jars of different buttercreams, fillings and jams, as well as, 4 large slices of cake. My fiance and I spent a whole night mixing and matching!
April even created a special yuzu chocolate ganache for our wedding! Yuzu is a japanese citrus fruit which my fiance and his family love!
But I do second Jesi’s Duff Goldman….he’s freakin awesome!
I love my cake baker http://www.sweetweddings.com/
in St. Augustine Florida. She not only is just as sweet as her cakes - but her flavors are unique and her designs are intricate and gorgeous. OH and the icing on the cake, her prices are really quite affordable. So even the gal on a budget can feel like she is indulging in a sweet luxury for her wedding.
My favourite baker is my mum. Ever since I remember, she has made for my siblings and me the BEST birthday cakes, different ever year, both in flavour and design, a lot more effort than I could ever imagine. Now that we’re grown she has put that love and energy into her own wedding cake business!
Truthfully, my favorite cake baker is my grandmother. While it clearly wouldn’t have happened since I’m only 24, part of me wishes I could have gotten married 10 years ago when she was still happily baking away, so she could have made my wedding cake (or at least a little one for us to cut, since she wasn’t a professional baker!)
My HFGIL (that’s Hopeful Future Granny-in-Law) learned how to bake cakes while her mum cooked for a German baroness. She makes food the whole family swoons over, and has adapted all the favourites to be gluten-free. I heart my Grandma! She makes the most fabulous cakes and they tast amazing too! I want her do my wedding cake but we are ahvign a wedding a bit far from her home and it would be hard for her to travel and deal with a cake since she is 80 years old and although spry and active she tends to forget things a bit more now than she used too. I gues I’ll have to find another baker…:-(
Professional: Dunia Borga of La Duni in Dallas….she makes INCREDIBLE cuatro leches cakes!
Almost-professional: my husbands grandmother. When she was younger, she baked cakes in her apartment and sold them to Cafe des Artistes in New York!
My Grandmother!!! She made the most beautiful cakes out of her tiny kitchen. We have pictures of most of them - even the one my Dad dropped. Her signature cake was lemon - she grew them in her backyard!!! I am going to use her cake topper from 1940 in honor of her. =)
There is a baker in Athens, GA named Cecelia Villaveces that does cakes for a restaurant called The Last Resort - they are so good that we would frequent the restaurant just to have dessert and coffee or wine! When I got engaged and decided to have my wedding in Athens, where I went to college, I knew that I would want a Cecelia Villaveces cake for my wedding. Her name alone is enough to evoke a feeling of old world charm and expertise. When I found out that my venue works with her on most weddings - I knew I was set. Tasting cakes to decide on flavors is still probably my favorite wedding planning memory to date.
P.S. I still need inspiration for how I want the wonderful cake to look on the outside, so any help from Martha Stewart’s book would be much needed and appreciated. I know that Cecelia can duplicate almost anything!
My favorite cake baker would have to be myself. I have baked many cakes as gifts for family and friends. The thrill of creating a masterpiece for their special day is what makes the hours of work worth it!
Our family friend Charlene– she is such an amazing baker. Plus, she operates her entire business on the side out of her home. For my mother’s surprise 50th birthday party she made a snowman (3ft long!) which are my mom’s favorite. Everything was edible (even Frosty’s broom).
She’s truly an inspiration!
I *adore* Maggie Angel, from a local bakery here in Indiana. Her cakes look great, and the bakery, thanks to her Southern upbringing, has the best Red Velvet in the world!
