Save the Date

January 8th, 2008 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Milkshake

I want to do a film-strip type thing as a save the date, but I can’t just pop a film strip in an envelope and mail it off….so here’s my idea for a card (and of course I’d circle the date). Or am I better off converting the card design into a square fridge magnet? Opinions?

Would you have something on the side and inside the card? Even though I like the example you have up, it seems like there’s a lot of wasted space.

Depending on how many STDs you’re sending out, if you want a filmstrip look, you could always buy the stickers that look like film strips which you apply over small photos. I say it depends on how many since it could get a little pricey. I think you might still be able to buy the stickers at Bellevue Art & Frame or try someplace like Joann’s.

As a guest, I’m a big fan of the fridge magnet in one form or another. I always end up putting them there anyway.

I’m actually doing a similar version but in a 5 x 7 with only the calendar, design and a small greeting.

I like the calendar! I always appreciate the visual to know when in the month the date falls.

I’m sort of over the fridge magnet. Of course, it is very practical — and as Lynn said, I do usually end up putting them there, whether there is a magnet attached or not. It just doesn’t seem as novel as it did 4-5 years ago.

Personally, I would do the magnet. Guests may lose the card in a pile of papers or misplace it, as nice as it is. I know I’ve been guilty of this and have had to shuffle through a bunch of papers to find the invite/STD. Magnets are cute and more likely to be kept, IMO.

I hate the magnets. I never put them up on my fridge, that space is reserved for my son’s artwork…I do keep the cards though, on a small bulletin board near my calendar.

I vote for a film strip. Same size as your card - but up and down. In the little squares - one could have a pic - one could have your names - one could say SAVE THE DATE - and one could have the calender layout with the circled date. Maybe corny - but super cute/unique. You could make it a bit oversize (not actual film strip size). Attach a magnet to it and people can either put it on the fridge or tape it to a cabinet or pin it to a board :)

The card is cute too - I’m just not sure what I do with it if I received it :) It prob go in a drawer.

imho i hate std magnets. i’m a minimalist and would be annoyed at the thought of being semi-obligated to clutter my fridge with someone else’s std.

We did a calendar, too, that wasn’t a magnet - so, personally, I have no magnet-preference (especially because.. I’ve been to the homes of quite a few people that just hung ours up using their pre-existing magnets)… PLUS… THAT ONE IS SOOOOO CUTTEEE !!!! I loooove it!
