Cake Me’s

January 10th, 2008 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Petunia

And I mean Me’s and not Mii’s, though if Mr. Petunia had his choice, our wedding cake would look like a Nintendo Wii and our cake topper people would be shaped like our Nintendo avatars instead of our real selves in wedding dress and tux!I present you, albeit in a poorly lit picture, our Nicole Clark cake topper!

(you can click on the image for a larger picture)

That’s our Niles A. Jones in the middle, his collar and heart tag recreated to a “T,” sharing the stage with a Monopoly terrier and watching over our Monopoly home. Nicole was even kind enough, in the crafting process, to tweak “my” earrings so they would look like my Regina B ones and Mr. P underwent a corneal transplant of sorts so that his cake topper self’s eyes would be more true to his green/hazel eyes in real life.

I must be honest and say that half way through, I started to have second thoughts about a custom cake topper, perhaps thinking it was a bit self indulgent to crown our cake with look-alikes of ourselves…plus I was being so taunted by all those other beautiful options that are out there now (damn you vintage birds!).

I even went as far as ordering this Department 56 one, taking no mind whatsoever of the warning “Note that this is a small topper!,” which they meant quite literally — it’s lovely, particularly because it’s also in our wedding colors and oh that top hat…I’m obsessed with them — as it’s really an ornament.

just-ma

But alas, now that we see ourselves in mini-couple-ready-to-top-the-cake-form, what can we say? We love “ourselves,” we want our cake, and we’re going to eat it, too!

Hi Miss Petunia! Your cake topper is adorable, I love Mr. Niles. On another note - I had sent you a message about your secret santa Etsy bags… Did it ever get to you, or did I mess up? Thanks! :)

Too cute! I fell in love with the tree Mrs. Kiwi used as her cake topper so I’m still lusting after one of those in green…

Oh, we ARE using Miis! Our friend does custom sculptures of mii avatars and he’s making us a wedding one (we’re including our dog in mii form as well!) If your husband is really into wii Miss P he’s doing chocolate versions for valentine’s day
Although they’re not posted in his store right now, he also does custom toppers for non-video game folk:

Cool! Nicole Wong just sent me photos of our Me’s and I love them! My dress looks spectacular, maybe even better on my mini-me than myself. :) I don’t think it’s self-indulgent at all, just another way to personalize your wedding. No one else will ever have your same exact cake topper and I think that’s pretty special.

Eric wants to do mii’s for our cake topper too. I have no idea what we’re gonna use tho. I love the vintage birds.

Oh my goodness Shannon: I am SO getting those chocolate Mii’s for Mr. Petunia for Valentine’s: thanks SO much for telling us about them - they rock!

Tricia: I’m such a dork — I thought I’d get an email letting me know when I had a private message, so I hadn’t even bothered to check that area, and lo and behold, there’s a message from you! Duh on me! I’ll get on that asap!

Suuuuuuuper cute Miss Petunia! I don’t think it’s self indulgent either (as opposed to that woman whose wedding cake was herself! http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/01/07/cake.irpt/index.html). If I were a guest at your wedding and see that, I’d think it was the most adorable thing ever! You definitely should have your photographer have at least one close up pic of it!
