Engaging Photos

January 11th, 2008 @ 2:57 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

It might be a little late in the game, but Mr. Jasmine and I will be taking engagement pictures during a trip to Los Angeles in April. I’m so excited to meet our fabulous photographer Marisa Holmes and take some really nice portraits and candids of us.

There are a few things I need to decide before our big photo shoot. First, I need to choose an outfit. My parents brought me back lots of beautiful saris from India, so I want to wear one of them. I’m trying to decide between these two– a beautiful sheer white sari with peach floral overlay or a gorgeous turquoise sequined sari. Which one do you like better?

We also need a location. Mr. Jasmine and I want a formal feel to the shoot– we’ll both be pretty dressed up and we want a location that conveys elegance, sophistication, and romance. Any suggestions/ideas for what might be a good location in Los Angeles or Orange County?

I was going to vote for the teal until you said you wanted a formal feel to the shoot. To me the teal one seems fun and outdoorsy, while the peach one is definitely formal. Both are lovely!

I think the peach is calling out to me a little more, but they’re both gorgeous!!

Spots: Griffith observatory, the Getty Museum or even the Huntington Library in San Marino,

I love both, could you do a costume change? :)

I would go with the white and peach.. it’ll look formal and looks great on Indian skin tones :-)

I like the peach better when it’s on the couch, but I think the teal will look better with your skin tone - the teal you are wearing in your profile pic looks lovely on you!

I vote teal! :)

I’m a blue/green girl myself so I have to say teal. As Toucan said, your profile pic shows it’s a great colour for you.
Can’t wait to see your pics! I’m sure you and the Mr. will look great (whatever outfit or location you pick). :)

Ooooh, while I can understand the peachy-ness, and how it’ll look very formal, I LOVE the teal color. I think it would look amazing on you.

Also: I’d love to meet you when you’re here!

I LOVE the Peach, I think it is very elegant, if you were doing something more “fun” feeling I’d say the teal.

Thank you so much for all your input so far– I definitely should have made this into a poll!

Mrs. Kiwi: I would *love* to meet you! I’ll try to set something up before we fly out there.

hmmm….I think the teal has more of a fun, vibrant feel and the peach has a more formal, elegant feel. I think both colors compliment you equally well :)

I love the teal, and I think it will be a great “pop” in your pictures!!!

Walt Disney Concert Hall is a popular place to take pictures…haven’t been there myself, but it always turns out amazing in pictures!

I love both but i think the teal stands out more and it compliments you ver well~ Maybe you can do a costume change?

Walt Disney Hall is great for taking pictures!! You should check out the Ebell Theatre too~! it’s lovely. Also the Huntington Library or CSULB japanese garden is a great spot as well!!

Hi Miss Jasmine,

I personally LOVE the peach outfit, but the turquoise will look great in pictures. When my FI and I did our pics we did a wardrobe change and it was sooo nice to have a variety….what we did…we kept one outfit for fun pics and the other outfit for formal so maybe you can do that!!! But your photographer will know best..

GOOD LUCK and have SOO MUCH FUN!!!

While I love the peach sari - I don’t think it will pop as much as the teal. I’m with Indian Princess - why not try both? Just do a quick costume change in the middle of your session! I changed in mine - and it only took a few minutes, but was well worth it!

the walt disney concert hall has my vote!

going by how great the color looks on your in your profil pic, i say, go with the teal! plus, if you do happen to take pictures at the concert hall, that amazing blue green color will be gorgeous and just *pop* having a steel grey backdrop! :)

I *love* the teal. It has more personality than the peach. Although the peach is beautiful, it just seems too reserved for something fun like engagement photos!

The teal one is beautiful! Especially since you are going to take the pix in April!

I like both too! I agree that the teal will definitely pop more, but the peach would also be just as beautiful.

I like peach sari. I think it looks beautiful and summer-y yet elegant - perfectly fitting for Souther California engagement pictures.

They’re both so pretty! I like them both, but I agree with pp…the teal one just has that wow factor that would look great in pictures! Do you have to pick just one and not wear both? Some couples do a wardrobe change in the middle of the e-session to mix the pics up a bit.

As for locations, I think getting pictures taken at the sculpture garden in UCLA (voted one of the most romantic places in a magazine lately), or even in the UCLA courtyard with Royce Hall and the beautiful brick buildings and steps and waterfall would be awesome. Otherwise, the gardens at the Getty are gorgeous too, although I’m not sure if you’ll need permission to shoot there. I’ll let you know if I think of any more locations.

PS- I’ll get those UCLA dance emails to you soon!! I promise!

I guess I’m in the minority but I am loving the peach! Perhaps i’m living vicariously as my snow white skin would not in any way allow it? :)

Being someone who is going to take photos in So Cal myself, for something elegant I’d choose the Getty or the Disney Concert Hall

I love them both, you lucky lady! I’d pick the teal to add some contrast.

I vote for the teal. I think the color will be gorgeous on photos. Marisa Holmes takes very vibrant images, so that color would be awesome! We’re thinking about Huntington Gardens and the Pasadena City Hall as good spots. But I also agree with UCLA, Walt Disney Hall, and the Getty. :) Have fun!

The peach is more formal, the teal more fun. I like the peach because it’s more romantic looking, but yeah- can’t you bring both? Would be a nice variety :)

Have tons of fun and wishing you a very happy wedding and marriage
