About Mrs. Cupcake

But It’s Not Just A Mixer

January 14th, 2008 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Cupcake

It’s the mixer. The KitchenAid Stand Mixer, that is!Mr. Cupcake and I are still slowly adding things to our Bed, Bath & Beyond and Crate and Barrel gift registries, but this one item was a no-brainer. It is the Dalai Lama of all stand mixers. I am not exactly a chef, but I have always loved to bake and there’s nothing like having a really good mixer to help you out. I miss using my mom’s retro pea green mixer from the 70s now that I don’t live at home anymore, and I’m really excited to have one of my own soon.

When we were out registering, Mr. Cupcake was allowed full control over the scanner gun (because he’s still a little kid like that), but I wanted to personally scan my dream mixer myself, which he so graciously allowed. We originally registered for the 5-Quart Artisan Stand Mixer in Metallic Chrome, which is $299:

But It's Not Just A Mixer : wedding philadelphia registry Metalli
However, I was actually a tiny bit disappointed to find that it’s not actually chrome like the Custom Metallic Stand Mixer, which is a whopping $499. I just couldn’t justify registering for something that cost $200 more just because it looked prettier, though!

But It's Not Just A Mixer : wedding philadelphia registry ChromeSigh…. she is pretty, no?

I decided that I’d be happier with our registry addition if I could spruce it up with a little color, and I love the pretty Ice blue:

But It's Not Just A Mixer : wedding philadelphia registry Ice
I told Mr. Cupcake that I went ahead and changed the color choice on our registry, which he was fine with, but he then asked if in 20 years the color will be dated and uncool? I said it might be, but as weird as it sounds, I kind of like the fact that the pea green color of my mom’s old mixer was a reminder that she had gotten it when she got married in the 70s. My kids might roll their eyes and say “Mom’s mixer is so 2008,” but they’ll remember it, won’t they? :-) Mr. Cupcake understood (or maybe just decided to smile and nod to make me happy), and the Ice blue mixer will soon be ours.

What was the one registry item that got you really excited?

Here’s my question: if you have a cuisinart, do you need a kitchenaid? My cuisinart came with a dough blade, but I want an excuse to need the kitchenaid! Any help?

I bought a “different” color as well–I couldn’t wait until I got married for it! I always wondered…could you take the mixer in and have it painted with auto paint?

We haven’t registered yet, but when I do I cannot wait to scan the KitchenAid mixer. I would love it in green or yellow, can’t decide yet. I am so excited to register!

My mom bought me the same one as my engagement gift! Unfortunately it has been sitting in it’s box for the past year, but we’re moving in a couple weeks and I cannot wait to finally use it :) Blueprint Mag had a spread in the last issue using icy blue colors with spicey corals, I love how offbeat the colors are for a kitchen

Roomba! I’m really excited about it. But we have all tile floor, and I found out about the Scooba, so I added that this weekend. Now, I’m not sure if I should remove the Roomba. Any suggestions?

I just got the 6000 Pro and what an amazing thing it is. My FI gave it to me as a christmas gift… and I couldn’t believe it (If you look online, you can find the 6000 for less than $300! (try everythingkitchens.com) it really is amazing!

I am with you on the mixer as well… I also noticed that the metallic chrome was not actually Chrome so I changed mine to Red!

Just registered on Saturday! Yay! Can’t wait for the red Kitchenaid 500.

The 600 just wouldn’t fit in NY studio apartment!

I HAVE that exact Ice colored mixer!!! I *LOVE* it. I have owned it for about 3 years now, so imagine my surprise when I went to register and saw that the Martha Stewart line at Macy’s has a ton of stuff that color!

And I agree, the color is awesome, and I will not regret it at any time, if anything it’s a great reflection/reminder of myself in my 20’s.

The first thing we added to the registry was a Le Creuset dutch oven…. can’t wait till it’s sitting on our stove!

I have the same chrome one as the first one you pictures, and I love it! It’s great that it will blend in with our kitchen’s decor, no matter how many times I change the color scheme. Plus, it doesn’t show fingerprints, like the shiny chrome one would (originally that’s the one I wanted, too, but I actually prefer mine now).

I was most excited about registering for various pieces of Le Creuset, in cobalt blue. FH got me my first 5 piece set (with a small french oven, skillet and saucepan) for Christmas, which I love! So, I’m excited about adding a few more pieces.

Oh, so many things: the Bissell vacuum I selected, the fancy George Forman Grill (with removable plates!), and, dorkily enough, the “pancake warmer” from Crate & Barrell to keep our tortillas warm when we make breakfast tacos.

The thing I was most excited about…my ice blue KitchenAid mixer.

I’ve had it for 6 months or so and LOVE it! It’s my favorite color so I don’t care if it looks old. Plus, I’ve always wanted to have an ice blue glass tile backsplash in our kitchen. So someday it will match.

i was most excited about our shun knives.
Not to hurt your feelings but a few months ago Lowes ran an ad with a misprint price of the mixer for $160. They honored the price so I was able to get one and it had a $30 rebate!

I had the same debate regarding the stainless steel look I wanted for my mixer. They just didn’t make it! However, my gracious FMIL bought me the black Artisan for my first Christmas with the fam - and I love it!!

oh my goodness, we registered for a red KitchenAid artisan stand mixer and my FI’s parents got it for us for Christmas! I was sooooo excited! I love to bake and the mixer was the major item on our registry for me.

p.s. I like the sky blue mixer a lot more than the “chrome” mixer :-)
