New Year’s News

January 14th, 2008 @ 3:49 pm by Mrs. Donut

Wow! That was a crazy Christmas! My sincerest apologies for the long absence. I truly thought that I would be able to blog more while on our trip home. I now know it was crazy wishful thinking. Between all the adventures Mr. Donut’s family in North Carolina had planned for us, my adorable but energetic little nephews in Mississippi, running around frantically trying to meet with people for the wedding, visiting with family and friends, AND enduring a bout of stomach flu, there was surprisingly very little free time. So, after all this activity I am happy to report that Mr. Donut and I are back in Singapore safe and sound.

And with news.
Let me give you a hint:

That’s right! Rule Britannia! We’re moving to London, baby! Wooohooo! Mr. Donut was offered a position with a firm there and so very soon we will be packing up once again and making an international move. How soon, you ask? Mid March. That’s right, friends, a scant 2 months before our exchange of vows. We like to do things the hard way.

Even with all the additional stress this is bound to cause, we are still extremely excited and I couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Donut. He’s just so dang brilliant and he’s worked so hard. It will take extra planning and excruciating focus to pull this one off. But, hey, I like to think I work best under pressure.

How exciting! I love London. One of our dear friends just got engaged and the wedding will mostly likely be next year in London– I’m thrilled to have an excuse to go back.

Exactly how does one move internationally? Do you sell everything for what you can get and then start fresh in the new country, or do you pay exorbitant amounts of money to take your stuff with you? Either way, what kind of financial strain will it put on your wedding?

Congratulations! My family was lucky enough to live in London for a year when I was 11, and then another year when I was 16, and we all fell in love with that wonderful city. If a job opportunity were to present itself, ChicagoSteve and I would move there in a heartbeat!

We’ll be moving cross-country about a month before our wedding. Not quite an international move but lots to do nonetheless. How exciting!

So I just reread my comment and I really didn’t mean to come off like an arse. Just genuine curiosity. Please forgive the tone and congratulations on the news!

How exciting! My brother moved there almost two years ago … he loves it! It’s a nice perk for me, having a place to stay when I go and visit one of the greatest cities in the world. :)
