Our Little Hitching Post

Now that you’ve seen where I’m not getting married, I thought I’d show you where I am:

This is the entrance to Arizona Inn, an historic estate/resort with sprawling grounds full of fountains, gardens, and really cool southwestern architecture. It certainly has its cons (it’s located near a pretty busy street…and a hospital), but it has its charms, too:

Guests will be lead through this gate (possibly hung with a wreath?)…

along pretty bricklined pathways…

past guest suites (my own getting ready room is just off to the right)…

through the monkey bar corridor (which also serves as the beginning of my processional - processional of one, that is!)…

into this courtyard, where the seats will be set up. The string quartet will be on that deck just to the left. I’ll walk right down the middle of the grass, where those dragged chair (?!) marks are. And the photo is taken from exactly where Mr. Lovebug and I will exchange vows, on this stone area under the tree:

Here’s the same spot, closer up (and on a different day):

Whether all three of us will be on the top level, or whether Mr. L and I will stand on the steps below the officiant is undecided. I’d like the guests to be able to see the officiant, but I have this hangup about not wanting to be symbolically “lower” than him. I know, I’m weird.

I’m not sure how we’re going to decorate the spot. I don’t know how I feel about all those pots, for one. They look so…backyard-y to me. I need to meet with our florist and start brainstorming. In the meantime, here are some more images of the Inn (which is huge and labyrinthian and made for strolling):

Next up, I’ll show you the little stand-alone guest suite/house where we’ll be having cocktail hour!

Oh, it’s wonderful! How cool that it has the natural beauty *and* the Southwestern architecture. There are so many pretty backgrounds for your photos. And I’ve fallen in love with weddings under big trees, so I think your ceremony spot is awesome.

Gosh, I have a hang up about bright doors and walls–LOVE them! I bet you’ll look great and have wonderful pictures.

Now, I thought you *had* to have at least a single witness to sign a marriage contract–will you just have parents sign, or a good friend you pull from the crowd? OR am I making this up? :-)

Haha I know what you mean about being on steps below the officiant. Not so much being symbolically “lower” than him, but that looking up at him when he’s talking would be kinda weird. That’s just me though. =P

I’m drooling over your entry points - both the gate and those old wooden doors have so much STYLE and are absolutely fantastic photo ops. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

fabulous! very pretty
as for those pots you can always wrap them in some kind of ribbon, colored paper.
I can envision paper lanterns or vines hanging in those monkey bars and tea lights along that pathway. very pretty place

Mrs. Bee! Don’t TELL me that, ack! lol - actually, I just watched a program about mountain lion attacks in LA. Yikes.

Wsukare: yeah, likely we’ll just pull up a friend. Haven’t thought that out quite yet. ;)
