2008 Stamps!

January 15th, 2008 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Canary

I was searching through the USPS Web site shopping for stamps for my upcoming save-the-date mailing, and I discovered some new issues for 2008. I’m so excited! As part of being a true nerd, I collected stamps when I was younger… I think it spawned my love of paper and all things related to letters and cards. I know a few brides were a bit disappointed with last year’s offering, but this year, the selection is pretty vast (well, as far as stamps go!)

I found the perfect ones for our mailing. Check it out:

Lunar New Year 2008© 2007 USPS. All Rights Reserved.

Though it’s technically to commemorate the Lunar New Year, the colors (and theme… you’ll see why later!) are a perfect complement to our save-the-dates. We’ll post once we’ve mailed them out. Some other options that are just as fun:

Charles and Ray Eames © 2007 USPS. All Rights Reserved.

I love LOVE love these. I’m imagining a very sparse, modern, and clean invitation with an image of Charles and Ray Eames designs peeking out from the corner.

Love: All Heart © 2007 USPS. All Rights Reserved.

This one is also perfect for invitations or any kind of wedding-related stationery. It’s the 2008 design for the Love series.

Latin Jazz © 2007 USPS. All Rights Reserved.

This one is just fun. So bold and graphic.

Wedding Hearts © 2007 USPS. All Rights Reserved.

And of course, the classic. Can’t go wrong with this one. Simple and understated.

You can purchase some of these online at USPS stamp shop or head to your local post office to see what’s currently available.

What did you do for stamps?

i JUST ordered the rat stamp prior to reading your post. it doesn’t go well with our colors but i thought it was appropriate to pay homage to our culture. i am also very excited about the love one which will come out in time for our invites!

It was Sunday when I remember I had to buy stamps so all I could get was the ugly bell forever stamps. Oh well. Worrying about little things like this would make me crazy!

I wonder when these will be out. I see the year of the rat, but not the other ones. I ordered the old Classic lavender heart yesterday for my save the dates, but the green ones would have been perfect. I love the one with the guy carrying the heart. I want that one for the rsvp envelopes.

Oh, I just got those lantern stamps as well!!! I had originally purchased some flower ones for my RSVPs but my cousin who works at the post office called me 3 days later telling me that these red lantern ones were coming out this month and it would match my red wedding colors perfectly! I love them.

I think the rat ones from Canada Post are pretty awesome. This year they have the rats dress up as traditional chinese bride and groom!

I just ordered a bunch of the chinese lantern stamps. My mom and I called around to a bunch of different post offices and they were all out. It only cost $1 shipping and handling for 15 sheets of 12 stamps, so its a lot easier to pay $1 extra instead of running around to different post offices!

Jen: The Canadian ones are adorable! I should just order a commemorative set because they’re too cute! Actually, my parents were born in the year of the rat so it might be a cute gift for them. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip cgeniew! I had planned on heading to the post office today, but for a dollar, I’ll save myself the trip. :) I hate the lines at the post office… but I will have to suck it up soon when I mail my STDs.

yay! we are getting the eames ones! We are avid chair collectors and have a few of the ones shown, they will go with our art gallery reception and our black envelopes nicely. Thanks for the heads up, was about to stock up on some boring ones, these are way better!

My mom works for the Post Office, so as part of our X-Mas present this year (she goes completely overboard), we got 500 of the “Celebrate” stamps: http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10152&storeId=10001&categoryId=18401&productId=31313&langId=-1

They are even cuter in real life, and are fun and colorful enough to fit well with any autum-esque invites we decide on! *perfect and we LOVE them*

Those Eames ones are too cute for everyday use though!!!

ALSO - for anyone whose already ordered stamps and prefers a different style now

You can exchange stamps at your local P.O. You are not allowed, by law, to return them for a refund, but you can always EXCHANGE. You can even exchange for different denominiations (i.e. $.41 stamps for postcard and $.01 cent stamps in the equal amount).

Good luck, ladies!

I think they should come out with a LOVE style “forever” stamp.
