I was literally showered — no, poured on, deluged, soaked — with love (and gifts, nicely enough) this past Sunday at my bridal shower. The only thing that kept the day from being perfect was the awful way the morning started out at the salon/spa where I’d gone to get my hair done (as soon as I resolve the issue with the vendor, which is still pending, I will be sure to blog about it. Suffice it to say for now that I was late to my own shower, but I suppose it’s best to make an appearance, no?). I’m still waiting for more pictures from my sister, the appointed photographer, but in the meantime I thought I’d share some detail shots I took (some after the event, the only time I was able to), which is what you probably would want to see most anyway!
The gift bags, for game winners, contained a handful of French things: French coffee, L’Occitane hand cream, a small bottle of French wine, etc. The little favors for all guests held tiny manicure sets:
My MOH and FMIL thought about every detail! Notice the tiny Eiffel Tower on the table!
The feather boas were loved by most, but poor restaurant owners and staff: the boas molted to such a degree that at the end of the event, there were feathers everywhere!
Black & pink polka dot ribbon was used all over: I made this arrangement when I got home with some of the remaining centerpiece flowers, and many of the guests took the other ones home:
Before I arrived, people were asked to name random things, like college majors, movies, etc. They didn’t know it was to create this profile of our firstborn. Our poor future daughter! She’s bound to be a body art expert who majored in basket weaving and whose main goal is to hit the lottery. Mr. Petunia made an appearance at the shower to thank everyone there, and it worked out that they revealed this game and read this aloud with the both of us there. We’re scared to reproduce now, thank you very much!
Each person was given a pin as she walked in and told she couldn’t say either of our Petunia names or the words “bride” or “groom.” I lost mine almost immediately saying Mr. Petunia’s name. But look at how painstakingly tiny black polka dots were added to the pink clothespins!
The pencils used for the games had been custom ordered and read: “L’Amour de Lourdes et Craig” — I’ll be using the leftovers all the time now!
The Bingo boards were so adorable — but be aware, bingo took much longer than anticipated! — and even though there was a small typo on one of the boards, I don’t think anyone else noticed, or even so, cared: who doesn’t love bingo?
And finally, we also had a word scramble and a game where one had to identify famous couples and their corresponding TV shows. I’m a TV addict, so I won that hands down, even though I had a mind slip and wrote down Honeymooners when I meant to write Moonlighting, and confused Luke & Laura with Lorelai & Luke! (Don’t worry, I wasn’t a gift hog: I disqualified myself and let the next person with the highest score win! I just wanted to show off my entirely not-to-be-proud of television prowess).
I hope everyone has as much fun at her bridal shower as I did at mine. I had fun, the food was delicious, and was made to feel so special. It’s almost surreal actually that it happened, and that my one bridal shower has now already come to be!
