That Doesn’t Look Like Shoes!

January 16th, 2008 @ 4:37 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Last night on a mission to find shoes for the wedding, I stopped by DSW and TJMaxx. Why those places? As a small-footed gal (size 5 or 5.5), it is usually hard to find my size on the shoe rack. Often, stores only carry 1 pair of size 5.5 or 6, and when it gets sold, it doesn’t get restocked. However, the plus side of having small feet is that somehow despite NOT seeing shoes in my size at “normal” stores, I sometimes get lucky with finding great deals on shoes my size on the discount racks at places like DSW, TJMaxx and Marshalls. So… as you might imagine, I’m a frequent visitor of those stores. Last night was one such occasion… but unfortunately, I didn’t come out with shoes. Instead I came out with this:

That Doesn't Look Like Shoes! : wedding dress Dress3Clearance Rack Calvin Klein Dress -$29

$29!!! The clearance rack at TJMaxx had some great stuff (even some great Vera Wang dresses tragically not my size) - I couldn’t help but look… and then buy. The deal was just too good! Even the register lady admired my new dress (she held it up to her as if she was trying it on). I thought she was going to steal it.However, the purchase of this dress means 1 of 2 things:

1. I found a rehearsal dinner dress! Yay! And for only $29!

OR

2. I have a shopping problem, and should return the dress. After all, I was looking for shoes!

BEAUTIFUL!!! i LOVE tjmaxx… i’m notorious for it. during one of my bridal shower games, a purse scavenger hunt, it was 10 points if you had a tjmaxx receipt in your wallet. :)

DON’T RETURN IT!! you’ll regret it! that is a great dress you can wear for multiple occasions… other weddings, valentine’s dinner… etc…. :)

A $29 dress that cute? You could spend that much getting takout for dinner.

Hell, you could get takeout, eat it in the dress, use the dress as a napkin and discard it— and it would STILL be a bargain! You gotta keep it.

I am a size 5 too and I feel your pain but Nordstroms, Zappos and believe it or not Ebay carry a good selection of size fives. Oh and love your dress!

shoebuy.com also has a lot of 5.5 ’s. Use the “Search by Size” link at the top and choose “Dress” and your size. You can also narrow down the found items by size and style.

Is the dress burgundy or brown?

If brown, these might be cute:

(free shipping, free returns and no tax too! and they have frequent 20% off sales if you are willing to wait.)

I love the title of your post, because its EXACTLY what my FI would say to me if I went out for shoes and came back with a dress!

Ahh I saw that dress the other night at TJs and almost bought it for an event I have coming up! When the picture popped up on my screen, before I saw the caption, I thought to myself “Hmmm, that looks like the Calvin Klein dress I almost bought!”

You know that it’s sad when you have a running inventory of your local TJ’s or Marshalls in your head…! Congrats on the find… now you can splurge a little on shoes.

PS I have the same problem with shoes, but opposite. I wear a size 10, and so normal shoe-shopping is hard because nobody stocks cute canoes anymore.

Just curious, but which TM Maxx in Boston do you shop at? My local TJ Maxx never has such nice dresses…
