About Ms. Dahlia

We’re getting married!

It occurred to us, well, yesterday, that this is January. We’re getting married in May. February, March, April… May. 4 months.

Weren’t we just at six months last week? Where did that time go? How the crap are we going to get all of this stuff done in the next couple of months? I’m not talking just about optional things. No, it’s things like addressing invitations, booking hair and makeup, and Mr. Dahlia getting his attire together. Yikes.

I could use some help here (or at least the knowledge that there are others who are feeling totally and completely overwhelmed.) Suggestions? Tips? Anyone else feeling inundated with the number of things that need to be taken care of?

(On the “lose a bit of weight to fit into the dress so it doesn’t need alterations” front, this past week was a success and a failure. “Success” because I lost some weight- even if it was due to a stomach bug that I got just before leaving for Mexico. Failure, because I didn’t exercise at all due to said stomach bug.)

holy crappola crapknockers. i feel you dahlia. i so feel you! im trying to stay calm. making a list helps me sane. prioritizing them in chronological order helps me sane. even though i haven’t yet started to ask for help, i may have to bc desperate times calls for desperate needs, and family and friends are there to support, so i will be calling on them and feeding them tons for their help! :)

I am a May bride too! I can’t believe it is only 4 months away- really has snuck up on me! It is definitely time to step up the work outs.

Oh yes. Our wedding is April 26, and I can’t believe how soon that is, and how much we have to get done between now and then! We looked at our Knot task list this weekend and I’m afraid we’re a bit behind. My short list currently includes composing the language for our invite inserts (one of my bridesmaids is designing them), finding a place to do my hair (I never go to real salons so I’m not sure where to start), and nailing down my chef friend about setting up a cake tasting. You are not alone! :) Personally I’m trying to control my anxiety with more yoga and exercise, which hopefully also will help on the “lose a bit of weight so my butt looks cute in my dress” front.

I am totally stressed out and my wedding is in July. But everyday I do something on my list. Today I send an e-mail to my mom asking for her help with some small but important things. That really helped me to feel better. Every time I can cross something off my list I feel better. I am a planner and don’t do well if I am trying to last minute stuff. I keep a little note pad with me at all times, so if I think of something I can write it down, then add it to my lists in my planner. Having deadlines on items helps me too. That way I know I have to get such and such done by this day and I can plan accordingly. Hope that helps! Good luck! I can’t wait to hear all the details! :)

I think this it is normal to feel that way. I sure did! Also, when you get down to some of the “smaller” tasks they seem to take longer because of the details than a big task, like picking a photographer vs. creating a program.

One thing that helped me was making a list, but also separating my list by months. So January, February, March, April, May. And for the last month, I separated it into weeks. I think it is much more manageable to look at your list in chunks that way.

Good luck and enjoy it before its over!

OH I know about freakouts!!!! My wedding is in March and I’m having panic attacks! So much to do, so little time! What was I thinking?! I had over 18 months to plan this thing and I’ve still got stuff to do?! There is something awfully wrong with me! =)

Miss Dahlia - sometimes it cracks me up how much we appear to have in common.

I am also getting married in May in Cleveland.

My birthday is also in March.

I was also in Mexico last week - in the same town no less.

Crazy!

In addition, I’m also starting to freak out about how much is left to do, and how much time is actually left. Plus, if time has flown by this fast, how much faster is it going to go now…..!!!!

I’ve just been breaking it all down into manageable bites. I sit down on Sunday and pick 1-2 tasks to do each day - even if that includes exercising. I love being able to check things off of a list (sense of accomplishment) and it adds up quickly! That way each week I can reassess where I’m at and get myself where I think I should be.

I also just suddenly realized that our wedding is, like, soon (it’s in May also). Where did all the time go? I’ve also been making lots of lists and a timeline for getting the smaller projects done. Thankfully I have great family and friends who are asking to help out so I’m happy to let them. It’s just like running a business, the key to success is delegate, delegate, delegate.

I had that realization last weekend, while my fiance was out of town. I still haven’t recovered and am freaking out a bit. Forget addressing the invites I have to MAKE the invites still and book hair/makeup and the biggie is the bridesmaid dresses, yup do not have them selected yet. I keep thinking that some people plan the whole thing in less than 4 months, I can do it!!!

I’m getting married in May too and had that wave of panic just last night when my mother informed me that invitations had to go out beginning of March. Um, March? That’s like, 6 weeks! I haven’t even started to DESIGN the invitations yet. I have so many other things to do, AND in that time frame a thesis committee meeting and my data meeting. Plus, I’m also working on planning two bridal showers for a friend because the MOH is incompetent and I can’t just sit and let nothing happen as a result (I’m a bridesmaid).
PAAAAANIC!

I’m at 3 months and I have regular panic attacks. All you can do is block everything but one little task out of your mind, finish that task, then breathe easier. It all starts to flow into itself. - zen master bug
