Operation Reclamation

Why is this man so grumpy and camera shy?

It could be because he’s realized he’s wearing the same shirt he wore for his last Weddingbee appearance. Or it could be because he’s been roped into a two-hour drive to help his fiance retrieve her wedding gown.

Either way, it couldn’t be helped. I was tired of staring wistfully at this stupid picture and not being able to see/touch/smell my dress in person. So despite everyone’s protestations that I just patiently keep it stored securely at the shop in Scottsdale, I took action. I initiated Operation Reclamation.

We hijacked his parents’ SUV and headed north to Destiny’s Bride. Upon arrival, I explained to the receptionist that my gown will be kept safe, clean, and otherwise happy at home with me in Tucson. Mr. Lovebug, meanwhile, took in the latest runway show:

After signing a release and setting a late-March date for alterations, I was handed over my gown! They released my Camilla!

And look! She can fly! (BTW, I don’t really go around calling my dress by its style name. I mean, that would be just silly.)

We lay her gently down for a nap, and somehow, I lasted the entire ride home without climbing in back and peeking.

The minute we walked in, I shut myself in the spare bedroom and carefully pulled it on. All that business about second thoughts and wondering if I even still like my dress…it all vanished the second I zipped it up. I absolutely love it, and I can’t wait to show you guys. As soon as I can get a friend over to take some pics, I will use the insta-post button! :)

THE DUCHESS HAS LANDED. I REPEAT: THE DUCHESS HAS LANDED.

Oh, Miss Lovebug, you crack me up. I’m so glad you’re posting again! I ordered my dress at the beginning of July, and it was supposed to come in by the end of December, but I recently learned that it won’t be in until mid-FEBRUARY (okay, I guess that’s not too far away now, but still), and they don’t want to start alterations until March! And my wedding is a week after yours! I wish my dress had a girl’s name instead of a number. 1807 just doesn’t have the same ring as Camilla.

Glad to hear your back in love! Can’t wait to see more pics.

Are you going to do that cool horizontal “bustling” like in the pics? I love that look– so different and so modern-fresh!

I’M SO HAPPY! When you first asked what everyone wanted you to write about and there was a strong chorus for requests about the bridal party firing, I was struck with fear that you might no longer love that beautiful gown I remembered being so stunning in your posts. Yay for you!

ChicagoSarah: no! Isn’t it the worst waiting room ever? And 1807 has a great ring to it! Very Jane Austen. :)

beanchar: I think so…I mean, the dress is sort of built like that, with those sideways bustles. Will take lots of detailed pics and you can verify, cuz I’m dumb and don’t know my dress terminology.

Miss Cherry Blossom: hahaha. Wedding dresses ALL have super powers. It’s just a matter of discovering them.

Alexinwonderland: ohhh, thank you so much for remembering my gown! I’m flattered. and yes, it’s a good thing I “made up with it” - there wasn’t going to BE a plan B.

Fallon: Geraldine! That’s a good one, too. Distinguished indeed. :)

I’m so glad you’re back in love with your dress again! I would have been sad if you had changed dresses because I thought you looked FABULOUS in it when you first posted about it.

I love it! Good luck not trying it on every 10 minutes. Mr. Lovebug will come home one night to you wearing it while sitting on the couch eating a PB&J. That’s why I keep mine at my mom’s house :) And I don’t call her by her style name, but by the designer’s first name. I got my mom, sister and Mr. Peacock doing it, too.
