Mapping It

January 18th, 2008 @ 5:29 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

One of the handiest things that I’ve done for our wedding is create a personalized wedding map. While reading through the WB archives, I found a post by Mrs. Bee about a cool website called Wedding Mapper that let’s you put all the locations for your wedding events in one spot. I visited the site and thought it would be a great addition to our wedding website.

On the Wedding Mapper site, there is also an offer for a 10% discount on personalized wedding maps by Distinctive Directions if you already have a Wedding Mapper map that they can work with. You can pick your icons and fonts to match your invitations and they will send you a PDF for you to print however you would like. The prices are very reasonable and printing services are also offered by Distinctive Directions as well.

While I know that many WB readers and the Bees themselves are DIY’ers, I am taking baby steps to get there. I’m going to take on the task of designing our own invitations, but the map intimidates me so I am seriously considering outsourcing this option.

I have also recently found out that the Wedding Mapper website will be adding DIY wedding map instructions sometime next week. Brides will be able to create a map and then use step-by-step instructions to make it look like a personalized wedding map to go with their invitations. There will be four different kinds of DIY wedding waps to choose from based on your style, skill level and time frame.

While I haven’t decided between DIY or having someone do it for me, I can’t wait to see how they simplify the map-making process!

What are you all going to do about directing your guests around town?

Google maps lets you do the same thing with a personalized map. You can make it public or private and put a link to direct it to your guests. It works in the exact same way.

I used Wedding Mapper and Distinctive Directions and was SOOOO happy with the end result. Distinctive Directions worked with me to use numbers on the map and make window for certain parts of town, and I made the back of the map a numbered listing of places to go in our wedding town. We mailed it out to guests about 2 weeks before the wedding and it was a huge hit.

cool! thanks for bringing this up! i’m definitely going to use it.
@JCM, it looks like there are a few more custom features on weddingmapper, like icons geared toward weddings, and maybe more hand-holding… other than that it’s the same

I used weddingmapper too and loved it! I had a link to it on our web site and we didn’t have to help anyone find our really obscure location. I also loved the “satellite” view which enabled people to get a vibe for the area beforehand. (Cuz our location was way out in the country with nothing around, so it looked awesome!)

Perfect timing – I’m just at the point of formatting info for our invite inserts, and the map intimidates me too – thanks for the tip!

Just wondering where you found the info on the to-be-released DIY directions. I definitely don’t want to miss that! I’ve been wasting away precious hours of my life trying to figure this out!

I used it as well for my wedding last fall. It was great to be able to have a customizable link to put in our wedding website. It was also so easy to use! I highly recommend it.
