About Mrs. Toucan

(alternatively titled: “Invitations: Part 1″)

I didn’t.

Since I was planning all along to have our invitations printed in Hong Kong, I hadn’t gone into any invitations stores before our trip to Joy Card. I had only looked at countless invites online for inspiration, so I admit, I wasn’t completely prepared and was completely overwhelmed by all the possibilities.

We went through pages and pages of samples until we selected a sample invite as our base and modified it. Then came time for picking type of paper, paper color, fonts, font color, what inserts to include, paper for the inserts, envelopes, so on and so on…

Sitting with our consultant making lots and lots of decisions…
Wait… is Little Sister Toucan… is she…?

Yup. She’s sleeping.

Poor Little Sister Toucan! I guess she wasn’t quite adjusted to Hong Kong time yet. And after sight-seeing the whole day, and 2 hours into invitations shopping… she just got too tired… and fell asleep… on the table… on a pile of paper. Isn’t she a cutie, though?!

(Please ignore the weird, awkward, caught-in-mid-sentence face displayed here by Miss Toucan)

Our whole picking invitations process took us 4 hours! Who would have thought it would take us that long? (Or maybe I’m just incredibly picky, and only crazies like me take 4 hours to pick out invitations?)

Has there been anything in your wedding planning process that took you much longer than you expected?

Catering. It’s a lot of money and we were supposed to have gotten it done at the 11 month mark. We’re at the 7.5 month mark and still haven’t signed it yet.

Doh! Our wedding planner’s website has “OVERDUE - X DAYS” in big, red letters blaring at me.

I am headed to Hong Kong in a couple weeks and am hoping to order my invitations there. Any recommendations on where to go? What are the costs of invitations in Hong Kong? Thanks!

Oddz,
I went to Joy Card (click link in post). The address is:
No.29, Amoy Street
Wanchai, Hong Kong

Invitations can vary a lot depending on what you want and how customize you get. I don’t consider my invitations cheap, but for the customization and materials I chose, I think it was worth it. I think I paid about less than half the amount for an invitation at Joy Card than I would for a similar invitation in the States.

I have no comment on things taking too long, except that EVERYTHING took too long - haha - but those photos of your sister dozing off are hilarious.

Invitations took us a long time too. I couldn’t seem to find anything that would work in bulk, so I just kept putting it off. On top of that, I was doing them myself.

Dragging feet + DIY = disaster

Thanks a bunch for the info. Last question, how long did it take for you to receive your order?

Oddz, it took 5 days to get a full mock-up and proofs for the invitation. The whole process will take 1 month. I’ll be getting my invitations at the end of this month.
