Tip From Real Simple Weddings

January 20th, 2008 @ 4:29 pm by Mrs. Corn

Last week, Mrs Onion blogged about the Real Simple Weddings book that just came out. I was able to get a copy and have just finished pouring through it.

I highly recommend this book if you are at the beginning of your planning for your wedding. The information in it is mostly the same as what you see in most wedding magazines… I mean, let’s face it, there are only so many ways to say the same thing.

BUT, there are just enough new, fresh ideas and ways of looking at things that I think the book itself, although a bit pricey, is definitely worth looking through.

So far, my favorite tidbit is about a company in Philadephia, Well Spun Wedding, that can create a custom wedding DVD for you from footage shot of your wedding by friends and/or family for around $500.

Ladies, this is amazing information and I fully intend to do more investigative research on the process.

What magazines/books have you found to have the freshest inspiration/ideas for your wedding?

As a fan of Real Simple, I bought the wedding magazine a couple of days after it came out @ C&B. I am at the very beginning of my planning (haven’t booked a single thing yet), but I didn’t find it to be all that helpful. I was looking for something full of images and inspiration… and there were just a lot of lists. It was nice to have everything compiled into one guide, but I wish I got more bang for my buck (especially since it cost over $10USD!).

I agree, briannie…but I guess since I have seen so many bridal magazines and books at this point, I was impressed that this one actually had more than a few new things to bring to the table. To me, that is worth it’s extra cost.

I’m waaay into planning but I thought overall the magazine was a big letdown. The vast majority of information on there you can find on most bridal websites for free. There wasn’t much eyecandy (small pictures) and some photos I’ve seen before. But mainly there wasn’t a lot of interesting ideas or recommendations for “real simple” style. Even the weddings they featured (which were really cute) only had a paragraph about each one. If you can borrow this from a friend I’d recommend doing so and saving the $13 or just go to the RealSimple website…many of the same things in the book are on there. http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/browse/celebrations/0,21771,3504000000-Issue_Date-desc-67-1-25,00.html

The one thing I did like though was their registery list. It was made for real people.

I am a huge fan of Real Simple and had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the book at my local Crate & Barrel. I too was very let down. I expected many, many more pictures and DIY projects. I think it will be helpful for brand-new planners, but I was really hoping for something more inspiring in the smaller details.

i’m so happy that the book “pimped” (heh) wellspun weddings! my boy and i are hiring him for our wedding…he was the most affordable videographer we could find in philly and just the artistic vintage style we were looking for.

I thought this book was a huge waste of money. I was very disappointed.
