I found Stacy Pitt through Sally Duvall’s website. The two of them work together often and both were within my budget. I also discovered that Stacy had a day rate, which got me super excited because the other makeup/hair stylists that I had talked to seemed reluctant to want to stay with you for the whole day. After finding Stacy, I did a quick search on Weddingbee and also found out that she had worked with Mrs. Firefly! I knew I was in good hands.
So I booked a trial with Stacy (be sure to do this well in advance because she books up quickly for both trials and weddings!) Stacy works out of her apartment and is the most amazing one woman show! She is so organized and on top of everything. When I arrived, I wasn’t quite sure what kind of hair style I wanted. I told her about my veil issues and how I would have to wear two. I also told her I had several dress changes and ideally would like a few tweaks to the hair to complement the dresses, but not if it would take a substantial amount of time. I really don’t want to spend every hour redoing my hair and makeup on the day of the wedding.
Also, I was torn between and updo and a half up/down look. Mr. Canary prefers my hair half up/down, but with the birdcage veil, I didn’t think it’d work as well. And with updos, I couldn’t decide if I wanted messy and textured or sleek and sophisticated. Oh the choices!
So I showed Stacy the following pictures and asked her opinion:
Half up/down looks

Updos

And the total wild card? What I call the Gwen Stefani pterodactyl pony tail! Totally does not work with any veil… but hey, a girl can dream.
So I bombarded Stacy with all these ideas and she said, “Well, let’s try it all and see what you like! If you’ve never had your hair up with the texture before, I think you’ll love it!” Stacy then whipped out the rollers and started setting my hair. I’d never had rollers in my hair before, nor did I think curls would ever stay… but Stacy proved me wrong.
We started with half up/down styles:

I loved the soft waves and elegance and was happy to see that the veil worked with the look (but would require that I trim the net a bit), but I wasn’t floored by it. I wanted some more pizzazz… Then Stacy started on created some low updos for comparison.
They all had the same textured crown with a little height (similar to Scarlett Johansson’s look above).
Updo #2
Side view with veil. (I love how the veil looks with the updos!)
I liked #2 the best because I didn’t want such a large bulge in the back and I liked that it was a bit neater. Still, I hadn’t found exactly what I was looking for. But by now, I knew I liked the updo. With the wedding in July and New York humidity, I didn’t think I’d be able to handle my hair down.
After discussing a bit, Stacy told me my hair set really well and that it would be totally do-able to have multiple hair styles for the wedding to complement my dress changes. Also, Stacy changed each hair style she created above within 5-10 minutes, which meant that I would not be spending a lot of time on the day of! I was ecstatic. I wouldn’t have to settle on one style!
So Stacy suggested I come back with photos of all my dresses and we select a style for each one. The best way was to start with an updo and let it down throughout the night, or let it get a bit more creative. That was just what I wanted since I really couldn’t decide on a main style just yet. The best part? I told Stacy about my dream Gwen Stefani look and she said, “There’s always the after-party!” Rock on. I was sold and booked Stacy on the spot. Her rates are more than reasonable and she’s worth every dollar!
My next hair trial with Stacy is in March and while scouring for more hair inspiration photos, I found this and was in love…

It’s the perfect combination of sleek and sophisticated, but a little different with a vintage flair. I would do it sans the hair bling because I have my fabulous bird cage veil. I love the detailed swirly curls in the front. I sent Stacy the picture and she thought it’d be a great look for me. I can’t wait to meet her again and try to recreate it!If any brides are still looking for a hair stylist, shoot Stacy an email or check out her website for more photos of her work. I can’t recommend her enough. Stacy is fun and calming. Before I knew it, I had been at Stacy’s for two hours! I was having such a good time, I didn’t even notice.
How did you decide on a hair style for your wedding? What was the deciding factor: veil, dress, overall theme?
ooo im jealous… i wanted to do my trials but thought I was too far in advance. Now you just gave me the go!!!
You look beautiful! 2 thumbs up!!!
