The Empire (Waist) Strikes Back!

Up until recently, I had only been dress shopping one time. Back in August I went with my MOHs Erin and Greg and I tried on about half a dozen dresses at the recommendation of a wedding consultant. While I loved the consultant and have nothing but nice things to say about her, I hadn’t done very much research into dresses and what I liked at that point, so while she picked out some beautiful things for me, nothing really caught my eye and I didn’t have enough knowledge to say or to pick out anything for myself.
With time rapidly ticking away (the wedding is just a little over five months out now), I knew I had to get myself together and pick a style, which for me, meant more dress shopping. I called my MOH Greg and my mom (I had another wedding thing booked with Erin later in the month and I didn’t want to eat up her entire month with dress stuff) and we made plans to go again.
So, though a last minute cold changed my dress shopping support line up (Greg got seriously ill so My Dad took his place), on the 12th, we hit White Toronto, a designer dress shop in Toronto’s chic-chic Yorkville area.
Although I’d put in some good time “book learning” when it came to wedding dresses, finding myself in a room full of the things yet again was a little daunting. But thankfully, I had an expert guide to walk me through the store’s stock. Rebecca was awesome, not only answering any questions I had, but walking from rack to rack, discussing the dress design and giving me ideas on what might work setting or accessory wise (she also works with a vintage jewelry collection so her suggestions were very classic and timeless).
When I finally hit the dressing room almost a half an hour after we started browsing dresses, I went into the change room with half a dozen dresses that, with Rebecca’s help, I had picked out from White’s stock*.
So without further ado, a few of the dresses I tried on (the store does not allow pictures so I tracked the pictures down online.)!
Dress 1: Monique Lhuillier - V Front Lace

The version of this dress I tried on had a latte coloured liner to tone down some of the whiteness. The skirt was very flowy and the lace was classy but not overpowering.
Dress 2: Carolina Herrera - Polka Dotted Chiffon

This dress was very soft and goddess-like. The polka dotted detailing was a sweet but not over powering touch and there is actually a cute little slit underneath the layers that gives a little sex appeal.
Dress 3: Jenny Packham - Beaded Flapper Style

The skirt detailing and the flutter sleeve made this one pretty cute. Very Gatsby garden party.
Dress 4: Nicole Miller - Silk halter

A very basic style made pretty by a great cut. Plus, this was the most reasonable priced of the dresses I tried on all day. **
I completely fell in love with one of the dresses during my White experience, but because we are on a wedding budget, I had to be conservative when it came to the price of my dress, so my search continued . . .
Stay tuned for the final installment!
*In spite of the store’s name, very few of the dresses are stark wedding white which actually works better for pasties like me.
** The dresses I tried on ranged in price from $790-$4400.
