About Mrs. Magnolia

Yes, I Did!

January 21st, 2008 @ 6:27 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

Yes, I married Mr. Magnolia just over a week ago. But I also did something else that day!

I ran the Around Peachtree Battle 5K with one of my bridesmaids and one of my cousins! And yes, I wore a veil while I ran.

I removed the veil from the tiara that I wore for my bachelorette party and attached it under my hat. People definitely noticed! I walked up to the registration table to pick up my number, and the guy behind the table said, “Hey, nice veil! Are you getting married?”

“Yes,” I replied, grinning like a fool.

“When?” he asked, clearly thinking this was a bachelorette party deal or something.

“Oh, tonight.” I told him, at which point, everyone around me started cheering.

(Fueling up with Powerade Option - my favorite!)

It was a beautiful day, clear but chilly. And the neighborhood vibe of the race was so much fun - people were there with strollers and dogs, and most of the runners seemed to know one another. Everyone lined up behind the start line, and the dude with the bullhorn started shouting instructions…. follow the cones, turns are marked, etc, etc. Right before he yelled ‘GO,’ he said, “Oh, one more thing… we want to congratulate the BRIDE we have running with us! She’s getting married TONIGHT!”

I started blushing like crazy as my bridesmaid grabbed my arm and waved it around in the air. Everyone started cheering for me and yelling congratulations - it was pretty awesome, I have to say!

Running this race was such a great experience. Everyone was congratulating me as I ran by them or they ran by me. Kids were turning to their parents and yelling, “There goes the bride!” It was just so very cool.

(Finishing the race between my cousin and my bridesmaid. They’re the best for running with me!)

The other best part? Three more of my bridesmaids were waiting at the finish line with mimosas!

I am so so so glad that I ran the 5K on the morning of the wedding. It gave me some much-needed time to think about and appreciate everything that was about to happen. Our day was crazy, and taking time to do something that I love was a great decision.

And the best part is, I didn’t fall down and scrape my face!

I am in complete admiration! What a high that must have been. I am a klutz who would surely break my ankle if I did something like that on my wedding day, but I’m glad you succeeded without hurting yourself :-) The veil was the perfect touch, too!
