How Late Is Too Late?

January 24th, 2008 @ 1:04 pm by Mrs. Caramel

I’ve been discussing with my fashion photographer friend and my wedding photographer friend about doing a Trash The Dress shoot.  I wanted to do something different photo wise rather than having me look posed and traditional.  And I love my dress so much, that I want more photos of it - then I’ll dry clean it and donate it. (At least that’s the plan for now!)

But seeing that I’m 3 months married already, and hoping to get warm weather soon… I feel a bit foolish thinking that I’m so far along the road to put my wedding dress back on. Sure, it would help out my friends a bit for their portfolios and all, but is it just too late? By the way, So Cal’s weather right now is super rainy and cold!

Do you think there’s a line you have to draw to say that it’s too late for a post-wedding shoot?

It sounds like you have the perfect excuse to get back into your dress! I would love to do another photo shoot in my dress because I love it, as well. And for free to boot! GO FOR IT!

i lost 25 pounds so i had another photo shoot a year after our wedding… DH put on a black suit and we found a white satin tie. i made a bouquet and buttoniere out of silk flowers and did my hair differently… we took pictures in a park we didn’t go to on our wedding day… it was a blast and now i have a second set of pictures i treasure almost more than the wedding day pics :)

i still have my dress… still debating a trash the dress shoot (the dress is ruined by an oil stain anyway)… and i’ve been married over 2 years!

in other words… it’s never too late. :)

DO IT! :) My favorite photoshoot was my TTD one - it was really fabulous and so relaxed and really captured more than any of my engagement or wedding photos.

Girl I think you could do it 15 years from now if you still wanted to. I don’t think it matters when.

DO IT. They aren’t day after pictures in your case, they will be trash the dress pictures which I’d say you can do that at any time.

You’ll get fabulous pictures, and if you’re getting a deal, that’s worth it any time of year!

We told our photog we’d throw on the wedding garb whenever he wanted if he just wanted to mess with his pictures. ;-) Don’t hesitate! I LOVE ours!

As long as the dress still fits… flaunt it!! I’ll still be throwing mine on in 10 years! (if it still fits ;))

As far as I’m concerned, every day after your wedding is post-wedding. ; )

I was reading a knot bio the other day (sorry, I forgot the name) and the girl did a TTD shoot SEVEN YEARS after her wedding! When they got married they didn’t have the money for pictures and then came kids, etc. so they just never had the means to do it. She came across some unexpectant money the other day so they finally did the shoot she’s been waiting forever for. And I have to say, the pictures turned out gorgeous!

So I’d say you still have plenty of time.

We’re planning to do one in NYC within the first year after the wedding since the wedding will be in AZ.

Most likely, it will be about 10-11 months later since we’re getting married in November and want our NYC pics to be in the fall as well, so that means we have to wait for the colors the next year… DOOOO IT!!

Yes! Do it! I’m just starting out my photography business and asking all my friends to put their wedding dresses back on. most don’t really want to, which is disappointing. If you are hesitant because of yourself….think of it as a a wonderful favor to your friends…I know from experience they will really appreciate. You can never have enough good karma.

there’s no time limit! Just go for it! It’s your dress, you can do what you want with it whenever and wherever you want. :)

Hell no! I plan on doing one in 3 years, in fact…once the dress is good and trashed mostly on it’s own after sitting in my closet without being cleaned after the wedding. I’m hoping it’ll give it more of a vintagy look…

Really, though, I don’t see why there should be any time limit imposed on a TTD session. When you have the time, is a good reason to wait. When the weather is pretty and climbing into a lake/fountain/random body of water (as some TTD brides are wont to do, I’ve noticed) won’t be such an icy cold event. When you are damned good and ready.

In my case it’ll be when I can afford it. :) We’ll see when THAT actually happens!

NEVER! Plus I think it would be cute to take some pics in the rain. :) Wear white rain boots like Miss Shortcake’s and carry a cute umbrella!

Actually last year I did a TTD session for a bride who had been married for 10 years, so you’re quite a bit ahead of the game! Go ahead and do it, and have fun. :)
