About Mrs. Shortcake

equatio

Seems like a simple enough equation, but then again, it’s been years since I’ve needed algebra, so maybe my mad math skills are rusty. That MUST be the reason, because I can’t find my dream shoes anywhere.

……sigh.

On any given good postured day, my height is somewhere between 5’8 1/2″ and 5’9″. Mr. Shortcake is 6’. So he says. (*ahem* Mr. Shortcake would like to assure the readers that he is, indeed, 6’ tall) After rigorous scientific testing, we determined that I must wear flats, even if my hair isn’t thanking anyone for a country music award on our big day.

“But it’s not faaaiiirr….” says the petulant child within. “All the pretty shoes have high heels!!”

…and it is SO TRUE:

(Oscar de la Renta, I would kill a small, fluffy animal for these shoes. *my puppy looks at me in horror* …correction Mr. (de? de la?) Renta ….I would NOT SMILE at a small fluffy animal for your shoes)

(d’Orsay pumps. In PINK. After seeing these shoes, and falling so deeply in love with them, I reread Mrs. Robin’s post and got my name changed ASAP to “Miss Dee Orsay Shortcake”)

(d’Orsay pumps…in BLUE! After seeing these ones, I went back to the DMV (after checking the hours - see I learn from others’ mistakes :) ) and changed my name again - to “Miss Dee Dee Orsay Orsay” - I had to drop the Shortcake, there was no more room on the form… sorry honey :(

( Kate Spade’s “nuptial.” Mrs. Strawberry wore this style on her wedding day. I heart this style so much, and I heart you too Mrs. Strawberry! Come back! I miss your pink posts!)

(Louboutin. Often incorrectly pronounced as “droooooooooool…slobber…slobber”)

(The shoes from the movie Marie Antoinette. I want the ones on the top left corner, the ones next to the ones on the top left corner, the pink ones next to the yellow ones, the yellow ones in the top right corner, the pink shoes in both of the bottom corners, the blue mules next to the yellow ones on the bottom row, and the second ones from the bottom right corner)

So there you have it, bees and girls. I always want what I can’t have. But do my shoes exist? Somewhere? Do I have to break into a heartfelt broadway chorus - because I will - or can I trust you all to do your

I definitely feel your pain. I’m 5′6″ and my fi is 5′8″. I’m planning on wearing heels anyway. I joke that he’s going to have to stand on the higher step. At least he *thinks* it’s a joke… ;)

i actually bought these for my wedding shoes - the pink in the photo does not do the shoes justice, they are sort of a sparkly slightly golden pink color. and they are incredibly comfortable!

Steve Madden has a design your own feature…they have flats don’t know if they are wedding worthy per se but its worth a try.

I did find these:
http://canada.zappos.com/n/p/dp/31713821/c/603.html

which I thought were pretty special…

I had the same issue. I had originally planned on wearing low heels… because my husband is a good 3-4 inches taller than me. But my dress ended up coming back shorter than I thought… (I measured wrong!) So I had to go for plan b. It ended up being a holy grail quest or something equivalent in difficulty. But it was well worth it. I was the happiest on the dance floor with comfy blister-free feet.

ps. I bought a pair of really cute ivory colored ballet flats from Oscar de la renta. It had tiny little cut outs so it looked like lace.

Still love them. Wear them with jeans all the time. Too bad they don’t come in pink!

Sigh…. I’ve been shamefully lusting after several pairs of pink flats for months. I have yet to come up with a “reason” for buying them. FI has placed a Cease and Desist order on all shoe buying, boo. You, however, do not have such an awful problem. ;)

Here are a few that really caught me. And if you buy them - “Love (them) as I’ve loved (them) and there will be joy.” Two points for guessing the movie!

Miss Shortcake I swear we were seperated at birth. I have been loving your posts about vintage things, because I too, love the 50’s (and the 40’s). I forage the web daily for vintage clothing, vintage dishes, well basically vintage everything!!!

We are having a vintage inspired wedding including pink flamingos, Don featherstone to be exact, and my finace is busily trying to complete his custom 1949 chevy for us to drive away in. Our first dance song is by Richie Valens and we will have 50’s and 60’s music playing.

And alas, I am in the exact same boat as you. My fiance is 5′8″ although he swears he is taller and I am 5′6″ so flats it is. And pink… I am looking for pink too! I have exhausted zappos and shoes.com and macy’s and nordstroms and still can not find anything. But if I do, you’ll be the first to know! :)

Sparkly Valentino - these may very well be my shoes!

I’m in the same boat, height-wise as you are (FH says he’s 5′7″. and I’m 5′5″ with a penchant for big hair.) Hope these help - Bergdorf’s has an amazing selection of flats.

I’m having the same issue. I thought I found the right shoes but I still can’t stop lusting after my grace crystal shoes but I don’t want to be the same height as Mr. CB, what on earth does this shorty do?

Well, if worse comes to worse, you can try Nike or Van.s My friend is going to order all white shoes from Vans or Nike and then rhinestoning the Swoosh or Vans symbol with blue crystals since her wedding color is blue. At least you’ll be comfortable. :)

Wow! You have all done mega shoe research! I’m short (5′3) and my FI is almost a foot taller, so heels would be just fine, but I’m looking something stylish in invory with lace detailing to accent the lace on my dress. In all your shoe shopping, has anyone come across something like this?

I’m a few inches taller than my FH so I’m going to wear flats. I’m looking for silver sparkly flats. I found a pair of peep toes but I’m not sure if those will work.

You could also go the other way- I mean- most mens dress shoes have a little lift to begin with, and then he could get actual lifts to go in them as well. Just an idea- I mean really, for the love of shoes and a gorgeous bride- who wouldn’t put some lifts and go around 6′3-6′4 for a day? ;)

I’m a HUGE fan of miu miu flats. If you’ve ever seen any in person, the sparkle of the crystals they use are GORGEOUS. Here’s a pair, not exactly pink, but a bronzy-pink.

pepperwhite - I didn’t realize you posted Miu Miu ones, those are the ones I was thinking of! :) Great choice for wedding shoes! I’m too short so would never do flats for my wedding but I wear them for everyday shoes. They look great with skinny jeans.

I say wear heels. Mr Corn is (supposedly) 6 feet tall and I am 5′11″. I wore heels and it was totally fine.

Miss Shortcake, I immediately thought of these shoes that ar A, pink; B, sparkly; and C, flat….but I’m not sure if these are availible anymore. I’m not sure that they’re quite “wedding” enough, but they’re wonderfully comfortable.

http://www.mydrobe.com/clothes/74171

Sorry, this is the only photo I could find. They’re made by Shelly’s London and they carried them last year at Urban Outfitters.

Best of luck on your quest!

I have been having the same problem! I ordered my dress with a hollow to hem measurement and i had no idea what shoes i was going to wear so i just added two inches to my base height measurement - now i am on the search for the perfect 2″ heel! which feels nearly impossible - all the pretty shoes are HIGH!
Those “nuptial” heels are beautiful - how high is the heel?
love all the links that you all have been posting - wow, some really good surfing!

I just have to say - I love your posts! They always give me a giggle (not a full-out chuckle as I am at work and that is hardly appropriate). I too feel your pain - my guy is only an inch taller than me. I am tempted to tell him to wear elevator shoes just so I can wear cute kitten heels (even those make me taller!). Check out BCBGirls shoes - they tend to have a lot of cute ones. Also, do you use Piperlime to do any shoe searches? My sisters and I adore it!

Thank you for this post! I am a tall bride too (5′9″) with a fiance who is 5′10″-ish…I’ve been looking for the perfect kitten heel (1.5″), so I don’t have to have my dress hemmed! And I love all the tall heels, but there’s no way! These links are giving me hope that there really are cute shoes without much of a heel!

btw, Miss Shortcake, I love the shoes in the second link you gave (from Bluefly)!! :) Supercute!

And if you’re looking for sparkle, you can always add it yourself, with rhinestones or what not.
