About Mrs. Lovebug

I have some fantastic news. I am officially the top authority on miniature typewriters in my social circle. I know, right? Pretty awesome. My friends can now confidently turn to me for all of their miniature typewriter needs. Because I can deliver. Shall I demonstrate?

Here we have the most festive of miniature typewriters, the deluxe (and imported!) glass typewriter ornament from Sundance. If, say, you were throwing a wedding with a typewriter motif, this would be a delightful favor. That is, if you can stomach the $9/per pricetag. Mr. Redford apparently thinks money grows on trees - maybe next to miniature typewriters?

Next you’ve got your standard, mass-produced, metal dollhouse typewriter:

As you can see, this lil’ guy from Virtual Dollhouse (coming in at 5/16 of an inch) isn’t fooling anyone, not even Executive Assistant Barbie. Short on details, this shoddy facsimile nonetheless has enormous potential in the Monopoly game piece market.

Slightly higher up on the MT foodchain is the what I like to call Mr. Inchy. Mr. Inchy is definitely recognizable as a typewriter - but can he adequately hold a placecard? Well… **nodding solemnly**…pursuing the answers to these questions - THAT’S why I’m the number one MT guru, peeps.

And for a $1 investment price, you can bet I intend to find out. Also in my R&D cross hairs is this intriguing little number:

Note the two-tone paint job - the space between those little knobs and the, um, roller thingy. Perfect for wedging in a small, well-turned piece of ephemera! COULD THIS BE THE ONE?? I’ll let you know.

And finally, I give you the Rolls Royce of miniature typewriters, the Heidi Ott semi-functional (you can lift the roller and fender!) one-inch reproduction, found at Shelli’s Miniature Mania:

Someone get me a drool rag, while I salivate over the possibility of putting in a tiny, personalized message to each of our guests. (**SLURP!**) Alas, at $31 a pop, I’d have to have to seriously step up my efforts to get on Deal or No Deal if these are to be in my future.

This is Miss “Mini T” Lovebug, signing off.

In all seriousness, anyone have any smashing good ideas for unique placecard holders?

Cute post. I don’t have a placecard holder idea, but I thought I’d share an idea for a guest book I saw at a friend’s wedding last year. They had a functional antique typewriter set up for people to type in their names and well wishes instead of a guest book. It was super cute.

Good luck with your placecard holder search!

Hey Miss Lovebug.
I’m not sure if this would be any bit less expensive (well, it HAS to be less than $31/mt).
I received some super cute vintage letterpress letters that spell mine and fi’s names and were once used for headers on a newspaper…you could get one with each guests initials!!
If you have no idea what I am talking about, I can send you a pic!

Can you buy some old broken typewriters off the internet or junk stores and then remove the keys. You could use the keys to creat place card holders.

I love reading about your wedding plans, Miss Lovebug! Welcome back! I, too, love typewriters…I have one that my grandma used in college, one my dad used when he was in college, and the one my parents gave me for my eighth birthday! They are so charming!

Oh, this gave me such happy memories of my childhood dollhouse and all the intricate miniature furnishings.

My favorite childhood treat was an afternoon at the Dollhouse Museum. Housed in a townhouse in DC, it featured dozens of antique and modern dollhouses including a Mexican villa, with a working elevator. Sadly, I heard the museum closed a few years ago due to the elderly owner’s ill health.

I am still a sucker for anything tiny and superbly detailed.

Jk216 - I’ve heard of that! I think we’re going to have one set up, though alongside something a bit easier to use, as well.

Kaci: ooh! I need a visual! Will email you directly.

tberry: we’re using typewriter keys all over the place, though I’ve yet to figure out quite how.

beanchar: me too, actually. I love replicas, reproductions, models…even the model tents at Costco are cool. I wanna, like, get one for my bunnies.

Hey Miss Lovebug,

Love your posts! I’m always amused reading them, and I’m so glad you’re back.

When you started mentioning mini typewriters, I immediately thought of a pencil sharpener. When I didn’t see any mentioned in your post, I went looking for one. [SOMEONE has to make one!]

Tada! http://www.akron-novelty.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1892

I know you’re the expert of all things mini-typewriters, but this one seemed to fit the price ($1.50 each) and would make a cute favor, and hopefully fit a placecard too!

Have you seen it already??

I found this custom postage stamp, if you’re trying to work that out: http://www.zazzle.com/the_lonely_typewriter_stamp_postage-172751015299912061

And I’m thinking through some other ideas for placecards…

I’m a fan of all the ways you can creatively use rubber stamps.

Check these out for letters:

Lastly, Indiebride had an old thread on “literary weddings,” that offered suggestions of bookplates and library card holders (yeah…remember those??) as placecards.

Anyway, that was fun! Good luck!

Hey Ms, expert on miniature typewriters, you must see this. A perfect reproduction of the classic 1908 Underwood hand crafted in America for the serious collector of miniature art. No one’s gonna hang this one on a tree but it’s a delight to see and own.

I thought you might like to see the adorable miniature typewriter from the American Girl collection. They have quite a few on eBay. The keys go up and down and it looks like a REAL Underwood. It’s metal, too. just search for “doll typewriter”.
