42 Cent Stamp Warning!

January 25th, 2008 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. Lemon

So I was happily looking up the release date for the new LOVE stamp for someone on the bulletin board, when I realized something wasn’t right.

Every stamp past April 2008 was listed as being 42 cents… not the current 41 cents. Umm… uh oh? (I had to deal with the postal rate increase in May ’08 so I completely empathize with those that would have to wait and worry about cute stamps)

I quickly checked the source (a USPS postal memo) and it looks like more details will be announced in the coming weeks after a few big meetings, but nothing solid other than a November press release that expected prices to go up in 2008.

So for now this is just an APB for those who are buying their favorite stamps ahead of time… you might want to wait a little bit longer to see what happens…

GRRR…Luckily my invitations will go out before that, but now I have to worry about my announcements and thank you notes. I already bought the cute floral stamps!

Use the forever stamps that can be purchased now.

I just had a mini heart-attack, but have since realized that we can get our invites into the mail at the end of March. Phew! I don’t want to be sitting on $80 worth of personalized Zazzle stamps!

… You just made me so scared! We are going to send out our invitations soon, but the RSVP deadline isn’t until April. Does this mean I should tack on an extra stamp to the RSVP envelope?! Ay ay ay… so not cool.

Thank you for posting that- I wouldn’t have noticed!

Wow. So many rate hikes! Why don’t they just raise it to $0.50 and not bug us for a few years??

Yikes, that sucks!! And NiftyBa - that’s what we did last year (add extra stamps on the RSVP envelopes.) They hadn’t decided if they were going to raise it 2 or 3 cents when i ordered stamps so I ended up just putting 4 cent ones on top of the old 39’s and hoping for the best. (Worked fine, but had to do twice the sticking-stamp-on-envelope work AND wasted 2 cents times all the envelopes.) The most annoying part though was that the rate increases actually DECREASED the cost for 2 oz envelopes!!! BUT it happened after I mailed my invites, so I had to pay the higher (older) rate for the invites and then the higher (new) rate for reply cards. Grrrr.

That crazy post office is always up to something!

This is off topic, but I was just looking through your wedding photos, Mrs. Lemon, and they are so beautiful that I teared up more than a few times!

Actually I am so glad its April. I had heard June, and of course we will be sending invitations in May for our July wedding. I was stressing about what to do for stamps on the response envelopes! If it all changes in April that is early enough to affect both the invitations and the response cards.

Although I am still annoyed about the Love Running stamp - wouldn’t it make some kind of weird sense to issue Love stamps before Valentine’s Day? I guess we will use the Tiffany stamps for our STDs, but FI and I both thought the Love Running would be so great for STDs. I guess it will be out in time for our Thank You notes.

Good to hear some people can send out your invites with the 41cent ones, but just remember ladies –for your RSVP cards, add the extra penny! :)

I’m sending out my invites before the rate increase, but i might have to use the boring forever stamps for the RSVP cards just to be safe.

when are the love running stamps coming out?

Do the rates for postcard stamps go up?? I knew I should have waited longer to put them on our rsvp postcards. $*#@*()%. I just was so excited!

DAMN these postal rates are so frickin confusing. I dont even care what the damn stamps look like I just want them to be adequate enough to get to where they’re going!

ChicagoSarah says:

Seriously, for the sake of the sanity of all brides-to-be, couldn’t they increase the price of stamps by like 5 cents next time, and then let it go for a few years?!

I lucked out, just sent my invites last week. And they took two stamps. But the new one (you’ve pictured) is so pretty, I love Tiffany lamps!

Seity says:

I haven’t found a single site verifying that rumor, so I wouldn’t worry about it. I did get to preview all the stamp designs they plan to release this year and they all had 41 cents on the pictures. Until I hear something official and they tend to tell you pretty far in advance, I’m not going to worry.
