Backstage Bridal Passes

January 25th, 2008 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Lovebug

I’m so proud of myself. I made something. No, you don’t understand. I only know the expression “DIY” as a command. As in, “Oh, you need laundry done? Why don’t you DIY, pimp?” So the presence of these items constitutes a momentous achievement on my part:

Even though we’re wedding party-less, I still very much want my girlfriends to come hang out and help me get ready before the ceremony. And not just for lovely pictures like these or these. I can think of no better way to get psyched for the party than being surrounded by my laughing (and likely tipsy) friends. So I made them backstage bridal passes!

They were fantastically easy. Print paper. Cut. Stamp. Emboss. Run through sticker maker, laminate, punch. Après-craft victory lap optional.

So while they may not be bridesmaids, they can still be “bridal chamber maids” (which really doesn’t sound that distinguished, but it wouldn’t say “Lovebug was here” if it didn’t include wordplay).Of course, no one will be expected to actually wear them (though they do come with lovely satin ribbon necklaces). They’re basically symbolic, as a way to thank my girlfriends for their friendship and support, and to let them know how much they mean to me (all this will go in an enclosed note, natch).

I don’t think Martha’s going to come begging for tips anytime soon, but I thought I’d share. :)

Too cute! I wasn’t in my MOH’s recent wedding because we met a mere 7 years ago and she has a close group of friends from her middle school days, but she invited me and a couple of other non-BM girlfriends to join her while she was getting ready…it really was special to be with her during that time, regardless of our “official status”. I would have loved a pass like this though - and what a great post-wedding momento!

ok…1st of all, thanks for the shout out.

2ndly…I also had some of my closest friends who were not in the wedding stop by and bring us all lunch on our wedding day; it was such a joy to be able to spend the time with them…I think your having your friends over will be a phenomenally wonderful time!!

3rd…I <3 Xyron. It is the BEST way to get full bleed adhesive coverage

4th: Martha would sooooo come running so stop with the self depreciation!!

What a great idea. Because of our large families our bridal party grew really fast but I would like to include a few others who are close to me without makeing our bridal party grow to elephant like proportions. This way I can include my 2 closest aunts in my preperations and my closest cousins.

This is such a great idea! I have a bridal party that is small but I have a few really close friends that aren’t official “bridesmaids” that I’d love to join me.

freakin’ adorable.

And you are totally a crafter… you own a Xyron! (I don’t even have one of those puppies)

Jessica says:

Xyron has saved me during this wedding proccess. My mom is a hard-core scrapbooker (or rather a hard-core collector of scrapbooking paraphanalia) and has four different sized Xyrons - we Xyron *everything* I’ll never use glue or tape again :-)

Awesome DIY! What exactly does a Xyron do? Make stickers? And I love the font too! What is the name of it?

These are really really ingenious. You should just start making them and selling them :)

I a stealing this idea for my wedding - thanks for the inspiration.

Yay! Thanks everybody.

Kate: Michael’s, I think $10 or so? Impress also sells a dress punch, which would be cute. And Mrs. Bee is right - Mrs. Eggplant has it as well - I forgot to link to her post (which has infinitely better embossing).

Miss Lovebird: of course! I totally would, too, for realz. I could customize ‘em and everything.

Mrs. Ladybug: this was my first embossing attempt. I just inked the stamp with a specific “embossing ink” pad, then sprinkled on the glitter/embossing powder, and “sealed” it with an embossing gun (which I forgot to photograph). You just have to be careful not to scorch it (which I did on a few, anyway).

Mrs. Lemon! Holy cow. If I got the lemon craft stamp of approval (you are my DIY hero), I’m, like, a glow. :)

Squishy: the pink font is Ma Sexy.

Jackie - exactly - the smaller models do stickers, but you can get larger versions that also laminate and stuff as well. Oh, and for the Xyron peeps: ALL XYRON STUFF INCLUDING MACHINES is 40% OFF AT MICHAEL’S TILL TOMORROW.

deluscious says:

fabulous idea! i’m bookmarking this one :)

i was so naive when i made my xmas cards - bought embossing ink and powder, but didn’t realize there was a special heat gun involved! i used a hair flat iron instead….

is the heat gun fast? i felt like i was waiting forever for the heat to set with the flat iron.

Miss Lovebug says:

deluscious: it kind of seemed like it was taking forever for me, too. But like I said, this was the first time I’d ever done it. I assume it depends on the type of paper you use? I say we hit up Mrs. Eggplant for a tutorial :)

Miss Shortcake: of course! I’d be right flattered.
