About Ms. Dahlia

You may recall that it has taken us awhile to figure out exactly where to go on our honeymoon. “Why so long to blog about it, Meg?” you may be asking yourself. Well, I wanted to make sure that we had our flights booked and all of our hotels figured out before I sharing.(Honeymoon parts 1-what we want, 2-Mexico, 3-Spain, 4-Greece and 5-Turkey.)

In addition to those above, we also considered Argentina, Thailand and Japan.

And then we finally settled on our place: Bali. (And Singapore- since we get a free stopover with Singapore Airways, and want some big city fun.)

You see, after all the research that we were doing (and the declining value of the dollar against several currencies), we realized that we would be spending so much on airfare that for not a whole lot more, we could fly to Asia.

I’ve never been to Asia. Mr. Dahlia spent three weeks in India with his best friend (his best man) and his family. On the way there and back, they spent some time in Bangkok. But he has never been to other parts of Asia, and really wants to go. (As do I!) And Bali seems to provide the best of all of the places we considered: good food, beach, culture, someplace new, and the possibility of a big city adventure.

We’re spending 4 nights at the Elysian Bali Villas. Located in Seminyak, it is near (but not on) the beach, and close to lots of restaurants and more upscale tourist attractions. (In other words, it’s not near the college backpacking crowd. Which is good. I did the whole drunken college student thing for a couple of days in Ios, Greece, and that was plenty for me. For life.)

Bedroom looks good…

Complete with our own private pool!

I think I could handle this living room….

We will then be spending 4 nights in Ubud (cultural mecca) in the center of the island, at the Komaneka Resort.

Check out that view!

Overlooking the rice paddies!

In case we tire of the staring at the rice paddies and decide to venture out in the world, there is a lot to do.

Like go to the Sacred Monkey Forest.

Who doesn’t want to see monkeys?

And after we leave Ubud, we are headed to Singapore for 4 nights, staying at the Fairmount Singapore (formerly Raffles the Plaza).

Needless to say, both of us are psyched for this trip. Seriously. I’m not sure if I’m more excited about the wedding or about the honeymoon. Anyone else feel really excited about the honeymoon? (And anyone else want details about planning such a trip? We did it without a travel agent, and I’d be happy to share my tips.)

yay! We’re going to the Maldives, but the problem has been no direct flights! We have to stop in either Dubai or Singapore, but the Singapore flight is at like 10pm or midnight.

Any advice on how you guys figured out the best flight route?

Oh, you will love Bali! I went with my Mom a few years ago and kept thinking that it would be a perfect honeymoon spot. It’s beautiful, super cheap, the food is tasty and the people are fantastic. Yay for you!

lilneko69- We looked at the date when we wanted to leave, and then we looked at the date we wanted to return. Based on that, we determined the small handful of airlines that would let us stay over in a major city without much added expense- so we considered Cathay, Singapore and Malaysia. (We knew we wanted to fly on an Asia-based airline, because their service is awesome.) After talking about it, we decided we wanted to spend time in Singapore (as opposed to Hong Kong or Kuala Lumpur), and then just kept an eye out for flights.

Bali is a major tourist destination in that region of the world, though, so there are a lot of connecting flights.

Bali has been on my long list of must-travel spots since I read “Eat, Pray, Love”. It looks and sounds incredible - congratulations on making your decision and reservations!

Wow; I’m definitely jealous. I am so looking forward to the honeymoon. It will be my first real vacation since Spring Break 2006 when I went to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We’re heading to the Dominican Republic to lie on the beach and do nothing for 5 days.

Bali is so amazing. My fiance and I went before we were engaged and had the most amazing time. The monkey forest is so fun. But the food is so amazing, everything is better in Bali. Try the American food like french fries and “ABC” ketchup, it is friggin great. Take Blue Bird taxi, they are better. In Ubud go to Cinta’s resturant, great food. Have a great time. I want to go back so bad.

Great choice! I did a Singapore-Bali-Manila trip with Singapore Airlines last year. You will LOVE the Singapore Airlines service… and the Singapore Changi Airport for that matter! While in Ubud, I recommend Casa Luna restaurant. Wonder place, run by an expat, excellent food. In Singapore, definitely go for dinner in Chijmes, a former convent turned into a bar/restaurant area. Ooh, I am so jealous :o\

Congratulations on booking the honeymoon in Bali!! We went to Ubud and Seminyak for our honeymoon as well and LOVED it. Nothing like vacationing in a country where the dollar is so strong. We did a spa treatment in Ubud http://www.spahati.com/, the proceeds benefit a school, and they drive you to and from your hotel. In Seminyak, definitely check out Ku De Ta, and my favorite boutique was Lily Jean. ooo, the shopping is sooo nice in Seminyak! Have a blast!

WAY cool, Dahlia! Bali looks awesome!
Props to you on finding the airlines that let you stopover! I didn’t know about that until our trip to Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific). Our “stopover” in Hong Kong was longer than our “destination” (Bangkok)!

I got engaged in Bali! It is so amazing. If you need a driver to take you all over the island I highly recommend Dean (http://www.balisbestdriver.com/) He took us everywhere! From Kuta up to the north, through the mountains, to the east to go snorkeling. Bali has tons to see and do. Sitting on the beach isnt to bad either :)

Hi, I live in Singapore! Do email me if you wish to know more of the places to eat, to see and all! I’d be more than glad to be of assistance! (You wouldn’t wanna go to the *too* touristy places where things are expensive and food is overpriced and not that great!) (you can tell food is of utmost importance in this country!)
