Today we have 8 copies of the New York Times bestselling book, The Hard Questions: 100 Questions to Ask Before You Say ‘I Do’ to give away!
When author Susan Piver’s boyfriend proposed to her, she began making a list of important things for both of them to consider, which turned into The Hard Questions. The book focuses on key areas of relationships including home, money, work, sex, community and family challenging couples to evaluate their relationship and gain a deeper understanding of one another with questions like: ”How important is having children to each of us?” “What do we do if one of us is seriously attracted to someone else?” ”Does one partner have a greater need for outside friendships and groups?”

It’s a great exercise for any engaged or married couple! To enter, simply comment below by 1/25, 8pm EST. Good luck!

Wow this would definitely be something interesting to read and ponder about.
What a great idea. So many couples forget to address things like this.
I would love to get my hands on this book - I cant see it being soo beneficial!

YO yo YO! what kind of questions have I not already asked?!?!?!

I hope we’ve covered most of this, but we might learn something.
Ohhhh, this should be an interesting conversation starter!
Hmm.. i like questions and answers.. this should be interesting.
Ooh, I’ve totally been searching out the best fodder for serious pre-wedding conversations lately…looks like this would be a good addition to my collection!
This book would be great! I’ve already asked loads of questions but I’m sure I’ve overlooked some important ones.
The best question to ask before you get married (if you have never spent the night with the person) is, “do you hog the blankets.”
hmm this could be very interesting or very scary *lol*
I think every couple needs to read a book like this before getting married! There are questions that really need to be discussed!
I think this is why some churchs require pre-martial sessions before they will marry a couple. Great idea for a book though!
This is a fantastic idea, what a fantastic idea to make good communication great!
A definite great idea. Even if I didn’t win it, I’d probably check it out at a bookstore or library….
I would really enjoy reading this book with FH… it’s always fascinating to learn about our differences and similarities!
I never thought about that. What a cool concept. I’d love to read this!

sounds like it might actually b e a better idea for those of us who are in a serious relationship but aren’t yet engaged.
Sounds like a great book! Could be very helpful in breaking into the difficult questions!
Things I never would have thought of…I definitely need to check this book out.
Sounds like a great conversation starter! We’re as different personality wise as night and day-love to see the book’s take on us.
This would definitely cover areas that need to be talked about. Question # 9 - Is it mine???!!
I love question books, but usually they are a little less serious but not as useful to my life.
We’ve been together over 8 years, so I don’t think we’ve left any topic unexplored, but it never hurts to make sure.
Um … please! We were supposed to have pre-marital counselling from our officiant — but that’s my future mother in law!!! So we are going to opt for another route. This is so needed!
I’ve heard good things about this book.
I would love a copy!
My sister is engaged to our neighbor, who she has been dating for 6 months. They need to read this book - thank you for the suggestion!!
Oh my goodness, I have wanted this book so badly! Please choose me ![]()
This will go great with my Engaged Encounter Weekend materials!
I’d like to see what questions we have not talked about yet!!
Another reason to pick at each other’s brains? Count me in!
I would hope we’ve covered most if it already, but it sounds really awesome! (hey, we may learn something new about each other!)
I am SO happy that you posted this! I saw it on Oprah once (I think it was Oprah, anyway) & wanted to buy it & then totally forgot about it. If I don’t win this (*kncock on wood* that I do, though :D), I’m definitely going to be buying it!
I love the idea of this book - I know it’ll really make us talk about a few issues. But at the same time it does make me really nervous…
this would be a great book for any couple…especially when sometimes you don’t know how to approach some topics.
This sounds like a great book and would be a great preamble to the pre-marital counseling we’ll go thru with our priest! ![]()
This would be a perfect way to bring up money issues (not like I haven’t trie before) with FI! ![]()
This would be great for us as we come from very different religious and cultural backgrounds. We’ve been together three years (friends for 2 before that) but there’s just stuff you forget sometimes!
Oh, I read about 40of the questions while “shopping” at Barnes & Noble. FUN!
Please, please, please!!!
This would be great for us as a newlywed couple. And, hopefully bring up and resolve issues before they get too out of hand. I’m a big believer in talking things out and this would help and provide great discussion points!
DH and I would really get a lot out of this.
I would love it! I love questions. And answers. And really chatting it up with my fiance. ![]()
For some strange reason, my significant other likes conversations about the “hard questions” (more than me!) It’ll be good for us to have a copy..
This is a great book - I would love to incorporate it with the pre cana classes too! W ewould be super prepared for what is to come in our marriage!!!
what a great book that can really open up conversations you may not think of bringing up beforehand.
This would be great because now I have other questions I can ask him besides who he would save first if his mother and I were drowning in the ocean. (To which he answered, “Neither”. He can’t swim. DOH.)
I think this is a really neat idea and I had never heard of this book before!
Sounds like a great idea, talking about things is always good.
I hope there is a chapter on international marriages! While we love our different heritages, we still have some work to do to make our cultural backgrounds click.
This would be great to learn the questions we probably havent thought of.
this looks like a great book — my newly engaged lil sis could use this!
I want the book. My FI and I find these type of things VERY helpful, interesting, and even enjoyable!
our minister recommended a similar book - i think it is a great idea
This would be great because it will give me insight on what more to ask after our 10 years of friendship and then 4 years of loving bliss!
I would love to clear the air about many of these subjects before we get married .
I would love to win this. It could give me some great ideas on things to discuss and ideas to bounce off one another.
Ooh Ooh Ooh, our best friends just got engaged!!! Perfect engagement gift!
looks scary…but probably a smart book to go through before making it official…
I looked into this book last year and totally forgot about it..I was just reading on amazon all the reviews and with my wedding on the horizon and two sisters getting married this year (crazy year) this would be a great book for us.
I think this book is an excellent idea for anyone planning on marriage!
this is definitely something the fiance and i would be interested in. i think anything that gives you a greater understanding of your partner is super importance before pledging to spend the rest of your life together!
we answered a few of these together that were printed in a nyt article one night. cant wait to read the rest.
I would love to read this with my fiance. It would be interesting to see which ones we think are the really ‘hard’ questions, and which ones we’ve talked about already!
Mrs. Bee
How come I post something for the “for sale” classified and it doesn’t show up? I’ve posted things twice with no luck. What am I doing wrong?
By the way, thought I’d kill 2 birds with 1 comment!
Oohh! Please pick me! I’ve been looking for a book just like this for awhile. Had searched the Internet previously to no avail. Thanks!
ohhh, i’ve been looking (okay kind of lazily, more like thinking of looking) for a website that addresses these questions.
Great book to past down to my single friends after i am done.
There is an interactive book called “About Us” that I picked up at urban outfitters for my FI and I. Its a great book with tons of questions for us to answer together. I think books like this are great!
Looks awesome! (Though my FI will probably have flashbacks to when I got the Keirsey Temperament Sorter book and quizzed him relentlessly for longer than I care to admit… ![]()
It’s funny, my fiancee and I have been asking each other lots of questions because of that new show with the lie detector that is on tv. It’s crazy the things you never think to ask.
sounds like a great premise for a book. glad they made it!
I’ve heard great things about this book - would love to read it!

I commented yesterday, but it is posted again today - does that mean we are supposed to recomment for it? Regardless, I think it looks like a fabulous book and a great way to start a marriage.
ooh, this book is such a great idea! especially for me in my long-distance-for-the-past-three-years relationship
um, tickets have been $15 for a while for amy nichols/anna post. plus some silly processing charge.
I’ve been thinking these types of issues the past couple of days. I would like to get some things resolved.
After 5 years together, I think we have a pretty good understanding of eachother… but seriously going over it again couldn’t be a bad thing! ![]()
Ahh that is soo cool. It’s all in a handy format for those questions you might never think of or have the words to ask….
I LOVE this kinda stuff! (Like boardgames like “Loaded Questions” where you have to answer things like, “Who here is most like a cactus?” haha) My sister printed a list of “ask before you get married” questions and put them in my wedding planner binder. We had a great time with them - but it was no where near a whole book!!
I’d love to be entered in the contest…sounds like a great read!
A friend just recommended this book to me! Sounds like fun!
we could use this…. *frown* it would at least help to read….
it sounds like it’d be a good thing to go through together…
