About Mrs. Daffodil

Mr. D and I began our registry a couple weeks ago but we still have a ways to go. Part of the reason is that we want to explore all of our options before we make a decision on where to register and what items to select. We want to make sure that they provide good service and flexibility. We’re also liking a lot of what we see, and in other places, are surprised that we haven’t found things that completely suit our needs. I thought I would poll the hive and get your perspectives on what your favorite places are to register and why.

I ended up going with Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma (although I have had a very frustrating time registering in store and adding items online) and BBBeyond. But then I also created a registry on UncommonGoods.com and that’s the one I’m most excited about. They have all sorts of beautiful artisan made homegoods you can’t find anywhere else plus a great selection of items made from recycled materials.

We’re using Amazon for most things and Crate & Barrel for dinnerware. I like Amazon because they have good prices and provide free shipping for many things. I also liked being able register for a variety of items. Crate & Barrel has a good selection of dinnerware.

BBB is great because they give you cash back on any returns from your registry list — no questions asked! this was great because we inevitably ended up with doubles of some things :)

I second the comment with BBB. I love them because of their return policy. Its good just in case they have patterns that are discontinued.

we only registered with bbb because we had a very small registry and their return policy was by far the best. you may really change your mind on what you need/want after the wedding. :)

but for day to day… i have amazon prime and buy anything i can off amazon. i loooove amazon!

Originally I registered with Crate and Barrel, mostly because they had the dinnerware that I truly love, but they’ve since discontinued it (oh the woes of the 2-year engagement). I think we’ll be doing most of our registry with Target, because a lot of our guests are on a budget. I feel like Target is easy to get to, and they can get most of the same stuff there for less. I also set up a myregistry.com registry, which I *love*, but I don’t know if many of my relatives are into buying on the Internet.

I’m going to register at Sur la Table-I love kitchen stuff and they carry a lot of great stuff that Williams-Sonoma does not. Also, they do as much discontinuing.

BB&B:
1) cash back returns
2) guests can use those 20% off coupons that flood their mailboxes, so I don’t feel too bad about having a few more expensive items on there.
3) Registry is accurately and quickly updated
4) They’ve always been super helpful.

alrighty i like crate & barrel and amazon, but ultimately, i chose amazon. i just like it because of the all the DIFFERENT things you can register for. there’s only so much china, glasses, and other kitchen stuff that you can register for…

I recently wrote at length about my various registries (BB&B, Crate & Barrel, Target, Macy’s, Amazon) and the pros and cons of each on my blog, but I’ll sum up here: I did pretty much everything online, and Target has the best website — yay for customer reviews! So definitely consider it. BB&B has a terrible website, and I encountered all sorts of strange problems — duplicate purchases, random stuff we never registered for, dishes arriving broken, etc. But their cash-back policy is awesome, so if you live near a BB&B store, it’s probably worth the headache. Crate & Barrel is great, but their stuff goes out of stock a lot, so you have to keep an eye on your list. And Macy’s gets major demerits for the Wedding Channel tie-in site (which I loathe) and their awful, AWFUL packaging. It’s especially bad when the customer chooses to gift-wrap an item — we’d get two tiny rice bowls in a way-too-huge gift box, and that would be in an even bigger box, stuffed with styrofoam peanuts.

Heifer International. A charity organization that has great projects around the globe. We are not wealthy, but we’re healthy and dream that others can share in that simple goal by having access to clean water, food, and basic health care.

We are already spending enough money on ourselves for the wedding!

Bed, Bath and Beyond was perfect for us! They seriously have the BEST return policy ever. For example, we got only two place settings (they were Vera Wang, and I am surprised anyone bought them, frankly!), so I wanted to return them for store credit.

Well, imagine my horror when I realized that DH had thrown the boxes out! Each piece of china was still in its little baggie, but we had no boxes. I called B3 and they said of course they would accept them. So we packed them up in a box of our own with some packing peanuts and returned them and got $270 in store credit! They are always helpful and have such a wide array of things you’ll need for your new home.

Have fun registering!
