Our Ringbearer Has A Drool Problem.

January 27th, 2008 @ 10:32 am by Mrs. Lovebug

When I posted my Cannes entry a few weeks ago, Mrs. Bee gave me static about the video’s exclusion of our latest adoptee. I assured her that we have big plans for him. Big plans for a big baby:

Meet Chaucer, our English Mastiff puppy. AKA, He to Whom We Are Unnaturally Attached. Or, He Whom We Cannot Stand to Be Away From. Or, He Whom We Could Not Possibly Imagine Excluding From the Most Important Day of Our Lives (high five, Miss Penguin!).

Chaucer is a true little gentlemen. He’s incredibly loving, gentle, and mild-mannered. Plays only with his toys, is never nippy, and basically doesn’t misbehave, ever. He’s mastered all the essentials for his big performance (sit, come, stay), and the only problem we anticipate is keeping my dress drool-free.

Here he is practicing his solemn ceremonial pose. I’ve assured him that we’re going to start shopping for a handsome black wedding collar soon. Maybe velvet? Or suede?

In the meantime, he wants to hear from other dogs (or any pets!) who are being — or have been — included in weddings. He’s a tad bit nervous, and would love any advice you’ve got to share.

Our church won’t let Maisy in :( but she would be there if she could. How big is he/will he get? How are you going to size him for his tux? ;) He has such a sweet face! Maybe you could ask one of the little kids to be the “drool catcher” and give him a wipe down before walking down the aisle. (JUST KIDDING! but that would be really funny in the program) At least drool is clear!

Oh, I SO wanted JP to be in our wedding…but skittish kitty + ocean front ceremony 90 minutes from home + clambake didn’t exactly = good idea :)

I say get all drooly…and then have a trash the dress session ;)

When my dad remarried, he and my stepmom bought a bowtie from Al’s Formal Wear just for our German short-haired pointer. If your dog’s neck is close to the circumference of a human’s, then you can pop over to any tux store to get him a nice silk bowtie - you can even choose the color to match your scheme!

Aww, my family had an old English mastiff when I was growing up named Winnie and she was the sweetest dog. Chaucer looks like a softie too!

Chaucer is SO CUTE! I wish Maude and Nina (my dogs, from which I take my internet alias) could be involved but Maude is too distractable, Nina is too shy, and our venue doesn’t allow dogs - :(

Aww, what a sweet (and BIG!) baby. Our three fuzzy ones weren’t able to be with us (except in the pics in mr beanchars locket cufflinks), so I have no practical advice, but Chaucer looks like a very responsible and trustworthy young man and I’m sure he will do a great job. :)

HIGH FIVE WAHPSHHHHH!!!

Chaucer, being such a stately handsome man, should have no problems sitting still for the wedding…and even if he decides to run amok…it’ll be all part of the memories.

We have low expectations that Billie will behave, but we’re okay with it :)

Cupcake: he’ll probably max out at 120? 140? He’s pretty tall, but he’s kind of lean for his breed. But no tux - that would be too much fabric, lol. Just a nice collar.

Corn: omg visions of a frantic, ocean-sprayed cat mewling in tune with the violinsts scamper through my head…

Kandaceandjason (hey! LTNS :) We were thinking about a bowtie, too. Only, I have a feeling he’d feel a little goofy in one.

Penquin: It’ll probably be switched up. My mellow guy will go bonkers, and your Billie will be an angel. ;)

TOO cute!!! i’m so glad you’re not putting him in a tux. he’s way too distinguished for that frou-frou small pup stuff.

LOL that is one regal, distinguished looking dog. his expression is classic. makes me want to put those tall hats that men wear with a tuxedo and stick a cigar in his mouth. so cute!!

OH MY GOD he is soo cute! I got my FI a bullmastiff puppy as a wedding gift. She is oficially arriving on 2/1! No name yet. But we would love to have her in our pictures and our ceremony, but, sigh, we can’t….so sad. I have debated on putting her in a local “pet hotel” close to our venue, so we can sneak out and photograph with her before the ceremony….but, it probably ain’t gonna happen. But Chaucer will be PERFECT!

awww, what a cutie! He looks like an English butler type, like I’d have expect him to bring the rings to you and go, “will there be anything else, madam?”
