Sometimes Things Come In Pairs

January 27th, 2008 @ 1:06 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

Some girls opt for two dresses. Some girls have two different ceremonies. For me, I have two pairs of shoes. Right before we found my wedding shoes, Mom H found something on a sale rack. Cute navy blue flats with the same style name as my Mom’s name. Fate? I think so.

I explained to Mom H how, most likely, my feet will be killing me after a few hours in heels so these would be so cute to wear at the reception instead of having a barefoot bride on the dancefloor. She actually agreed and, so, I introduce to you, my other pair of wedding shoes:

Did anyone else out there opt for a lower shoe at your reception?

I just ordered my reception shoes. I got a pair of customized Converse. I’m really short, so I’m wearing 4 inch heels for the ceremony, but no way can I make it all night in them.

Right after the ceremony, I switched from 3.5″ heels to a pair of thick white flip flops (I was afraid that normal flip flops would be such a drop in height from my heels that my dress would be much too long) I got them at Old Navy for something like $7 and was SOOOOO comfortable during the reception!

I also gave my bridesmaids flip flops that as one of the parts of their gift - they thought it was kind of weird when they first received them, but I convinced them to bring them to the wedding ‘just in case’, and by the time the reception rolled around, every single one of them had taken off their heels and were dancing in the flip flops. :)

I love those shoes! I have them in red :-) I had 2 pairs of shoes too- my cinderella heels for the ceremony and sparkly red smaller heel sandals for dancing.

I’m definitely looking for a low pair of shoes for the reception. My ceremony shoes aren’t super high, about 3 inches, but I’m just worried that a flat shoe will be too low for my dress hem. What are you doing about that?

I’ve never done very well with anything that goes between the toe (i.e. flip flops) AND has height - I find that the weight of the shoe, even if it’s a foam flip flop, makes that area between the toes hurt like crazy.

i love those shoes! almost bought them in red but i have to stay on a budget until after the wedding… how much higher are your ceremony shoes? your dress might be dragging on the floor during the reception if there’s a big height difference.

Those are so pretty! What designer are those from?

I also wore flats. Mr. Radish is a shorty ;)

I’m just going to wear a nasty ass old pair of white rocket dogs that I have. Guaranteed to be comfy!

I definitely plan to have a flat pair of silver shoes for the reception - shoes I’ll be able to wear again! I want my ceremony shoes to be silver and re-wearable, too, though (just with a smidge of a heel, although I might end up in flats for both the ceremony and the reception since FH is only three inches taller than me).

i want to wear heels at the ceremony and flats to dance, but I’m worried about that the hem will be dragging and I’ll be tripping all over my dress…
does anyone know from experience? does three inches make a big difference?

For me, my shoe shopping is entailing looking only for flats. I stink at walking in heels and frankly why I love their sheer beauty, I hate their sheer pain. So my goal is to find the perfet pair of purple flats! Besides the soon-to-be-hubby is short!

Cute! I love both pairs.

I switched it wedge style flip flop that wasn’t much shorter (a plus since your dress length is cut to your height while wearing the first pair) right before dancing. My ceremony shoes were killing me by then, but the second pair kept me comfy all night on the dance floor.

I changed into tall white platform flip flops for the reception, and they actually hurt my feet MORE than my heels!! For some reason the straps dug into my feet and left scars that stayed for weeks after the wedding. Strange..
