Pretty Things For Rings, Part II

January 28th, 2008 @ 9:32 am by Mrs. Peacock

Like quite a few other people, I fell in love with the Scarlet Alley orb.

I hesitate to even post that picture as they have stopped making the orb and this might provoke frustration and frenzied ebay searching.

Since the orb is out, I have been looking for a pretty little something to hold my rings while I am getting ready in the morning or while I am writing papers. Currently, I take it off and leave it on the sink, on my notebooks, in my makeup bag… I am totally asking for it. I need a dedicated spot for my ring or I know I am going to lose it.

I dug around on etsy and in my Google reader and found a few fun options.

You can customize your message on these little bowls from Etsy seller palomasnestfrom Etsy seller JDWolfePottery

The Loyal Loot Log Bowl from Rose and Radish
Michael Aram Lotus Dish

Any other good ideas for keeping your ring safe?

I just bought a little bowl from palomasnest over the weekend! I had it inscribed with to have and to hold, and our wedding date. I think I’m going to have our ring bearer carry it with our rings, and then it can sit on our nightstand to hold them after that. A close second to the coveted orbs :)

OMG…i love that little heart pot. I am logging on to eBay at this very moment! I had a dangerously close encounter which included my ring and an open drain, so I will be investing in this asap!

I have the orb and love it. I’m so glad I was able to get in early. I saw the orb on a bio on the Knot and grabbed one. The bio owner did recommend covering the letters with clear polish to avoid them from chipping off. I love those lotus dishes. They would be super cute in a bathroom.

Thanks!

I vote everyone should look for a souvenir/ring holder on their honeymoons!! I found a heart shaped wooden box in Costa Rica that I bought to hold our rings. Costa Rica is known for their woods - and I pretty much ogled everything wooden in every shop we went in. My favorite was this purple wood. So when I found the felt lined heart box in the purple wood - I knew that was it! We hadn’t exchange wedding presents so I told Todd that was his gift to me :)

Not to start a frenzy, but Everyday Artifacts has the orbs with a lavender interior!

I also love the orb and I wish I had gotten one while they lasted. I currently put my ring in it’s box at night and hang it on the banana holder when I do dishes. I need something better for at night so that the box doesn’t get dirty over time. I also need omethign similar for the kitchen and bathroom. Unfortuantly, while cute, these ides jsut won’t work. We have 3 silly cats and one sneaky cat and all of them think that my shiny ring is a wonderful shiny new toy. If I leave it on the counter or any other serface they try to and have stolen it. Tehy proceed to run around the house with it or bat it under the bed. I looked for an hour one day and finally found it in the sheets where the cats had been lying under the covers.

Why do you all want to TAKE OFF your rings?

I have been waiting for two years to wear my wedding ring, and I will NEVER take it off. What good is it if you take it on and off like a regular old piece of jewelry?

If it’s so uncomfortable for you to wear your ring(s) for everyday activities, I think you should’ve gotten a smaller one to avoid such an ‘inconvenience’!

lady, there was a post a while back on why not to wear your ring when doing things like taking a shower, washing your hands, doing the dishes, etc. because cleansers with chemicals in them can be abrasive to gold and you get gunky build-up in the setting. see here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/ring-cleaning-pros-cons

Regarding the clear nail polish, I have a friend who applied the polish to the inside of the orb… the letters started to disappear! I would polish the outside in case the bronze exterior rusts.

I take of my rings every time I cook or clean our place, so they have been quite useful and you’ll never forget where they are!

I got an orb with the lavender interior from Everyday Artifacts a couple of weeks ago. They still make them!

I mostly just take off my rings in the kitchen. As a wedding shower gift, we got this great set of stoneware measuring cups that coordinate with our kitchen colors. I don’t use them often but keep them set out on the counter as decoration. The 1/4 cup is perfect for keeping all my rings in while I’m cooking.

I kept taking off my rings and leaving them in random places and forgetting where I’d put them. (This lead to more than one frantic search by my husband and I) So my solution was trinket boxes.

My mom gave me one for Christmas and my husband got me one for our wedding. (Within days of each other) I put one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. I found one I already had and put it in the bathroom…So now everywhere I was taking off my rings, there is a place to put it! No more frantic searches!

I think it’s a good idea to have two ring holders; one by the kitchen (for dish washing & cooking) and the other one somewhere in the bedroom/bathroom. I found that running to my ring holder gets annoying, plus this is a good excuse for buying TWO cute ring holders. =)
