STDs For Everyone!!!111oneone

January 28th, 2008 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Bubblegum

That’s Save. The. Dates. Mind out of the gutter, people!

Save the dates were my first major DIY project - and since I was SO excited, they went out NINE MONTHS before the wedding (I think the “etiquette” is at least 4-6 months before, but 9-12 for a destination wedding - mine is not a destination wedding, but heck, I wanted to keep people informed).

I thought the simplest way to do this would be a calendar (since, really, the objective is for our guests to save the date) such as this lovely one from weddingpaperdivas:

We ended up going for a “pages torn from your calendar” look, and here’s how it turned out!

Baby Girl Bubblegum (we’ve added Baby Boy Bubblegum, a.k.a. B^3, since her first introduction, so she is now BGB), who is an expert in all things paper.

My shipment from Paper-Source - again, happiest day of my life (y’know, until the wedding).

Before assembling.. All parts done on my nifty Canon Pixma!

The completed save the date.

And finally, an exhausted Miss BG after all the STDs were contracte–err–made.

The best part is.. they were CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!

~75 6.25″ square cards from Paper-Source = $15
~75 6.5″ square stardream envelopes from Paper-Source = $43.13
~Whole pack of 28 lb. paper from Staples = $9
~150 41 cent stamps = $61.50

The grand total to send out 75 save the dates: $128.63.. that’s $1.72 a piece!

The most expensive part was the stamps.. and here’s the deal: within the last year, the post office started charging postage based on size and shape rather than just weight. Not knowing this, I stood in line with my 6.5″ square envelopes, thinking, “these are so light.. no way could they take more than one stamp.. should I even be wasting this woman’s time?” And, as it turns out, square envelopes count as “large” envelopes and take 80 cents to mail. Boo.

All in all, I think they turned out well. Now if only we could finish invitations…

Square envelopes should only cost $.58 to mail, according to the rate calculator online. They are still letters, but they are square, so they cost an extra $.17.
If yours weighed more than 1oz that could explain why you had to pay .80.

Sorry Miss BG, but square envelopes have been more expensive for a while since thier shape does not go through the autoreader correctly.

I love the look of square invites but am purposely choosing to have a rectangular one due to this unfortunate occurance.

They look fabulous! What did you use to “glue” the white calendar paper to the square cards? What computer program did you use to make the calendars? Congrats! I should be getting my STDs in the mail today (I’ve never been more excited to write addresses) and I could not sleep at all last night because I kept waking up from these *horrible* dreams where the STD announced I was running for president, or other ridiculous things.

Oops sorry to respond so late! For those of you wondering about the adhesive - I actually just stapled it!! I thought it sorta went with the theme of the invite :)
