About Mrs. Shortcake

(pic from ianfuller on flickr)

Like many other brides (and bees), choosing a colour scheme has been difficult, to say the least. I’ve always felt a certain fondness for most, if not all of the crayons in my 52- deluxe crayola crayon pack. Except for orange. And burnt sienna. And peach. I digress. Anyway, I’ve always tried to be impartial to my crumbly wax comrades, so having to pick a favorite or three was heartwrenching.

But, five months, ten boxes of kleenex, and forty six apologies later, the deed was done.

I would like to introduce to you, dear reader, to the chosen few:

(Crayola) Rank: 33

Rank: 49

Rank: 50

Rank 37

ACCENT COLOURS:

Rank: 43

Rank: 47

There they are, my saucy and sweet six. I’ve included their numbers so you too can take them out of your art box and gaze at them lovingly (….or whatever you do with your art supplies). Surprisingly, they work well together, and don’t look so much like a baby’s room (thanks Mrs. E!) in actual application. I hope.

So, here’s the recipe for our wedding so far….

(from stylemepretty)

THEME: vintage 1950s

MOTIF: birds, hearts, paper dolls, chandeliers

COLOURS: robin’s egg blue, cotton candy pink, buttercream yellow, pale green, with splashes of hot pink and silver AND SPARKLE. Yes, sparkle is a colour - sparkle is the new black!

And in case you couldn’t see where this was going,

KEYWORDS: “dollhouse”….”swelegant”….”whimsical”…”charming”…and “tooth-achingly sweet like a pastry”

Without further ado, dessert is served!

NOTE: I have pictures from everywhere and have lost the links….some are from the knot, some from flickr users holiday_jenny, craftilyeverafter, and from many others whose work I am blatantly using but humbly apologize for doing so :( )

Now, go brush your teeth! ;)

What a lovely palette!

I am totally nitpicky and am using the Pantone color chart for my palette. I know, I’m obsessive. Please don’t remind me!

Love the colors!

Quick question–do you know where you got the embroidered cake photo? Is it on a towel? Love it and would like to maybe order it if you remember where you snagged it.

TIA!

OMG I’m guilty of the pantone color pallettes too. I work with fabrics and color all day I can’t resist!
I also love to swing by the swatches at Home Depot occasionally too! I carry swatches in my purse. Every vendor gets a piece and they are so thankful! It helps them picture what I have in mind so much better!

I love your colors scheme! It’s so pretty!

Super cute Miss Shortcake! At first I thought it might look too Easter-y, but after looking through your idea boards, the colors totally go with your vintage theme!

P.S. I don’t know if this is showing for everyone else, but I find it funny that under your “Now, go brush your teeth!” line, there is an ad for teeth whitening, complete with pictures of pearly whites.

I am IN LOVE with your palette. If only I had another wedding to plan… maybe for our 25th anniversary vow renewal?

AWESOME colors!! Most brides are scared to go past choosing 2 … so you get an A+ for thinking outside of the box (or inside the crayon box might I say) :)

CamilleC says:

I have like 5 or 6 colors too. Love your aesthetic!

Looks wonderful! Do you have suggestions for bridesmaid dresses with a similar theme? That is what I am searching for at the moment. I was inspired by my grandma’s 1950s wedding, in which they all wore awesome lace shrugs, fabulous dresses, and excellent white beaded crowns, and now I am searching for dresses with a bit of 50s flair for my girls… Any suggestions?

missshortcake says:

Thanks for all the compliments girls! My crayons and I thank you most humbly.

Christine, look at my post “I will follow her” - there are a ton of link there for retro and modern reproduction bridesmaid dresses at the bottom

Christine says:

Thanks, Miss Shortcake, but I found most of those links to be actual, one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, instead of reproductions (so I couldn’t have multiple girls in similar dresses). Daddy-o and Red Dress offer reproductions, but they don’t have much in the way of dresses in solid prints that would lend themselves to a wedding atmosphere… I guess I am now just spoiled with that Candy Anthony image!
