About Mrs. Milkshake

Can we say, all your base are belong to us? Check out this ebay seller, where you can apparently get this Jim Hjelm dress that I tried on last week for one cent, plus a pretty penny for shipping. For an eighty-some-odd dollar investment and a one week turnaround time, I’m almost tempted just to order this dress just for the heck of it… a) I’m sure it would make great blogging material b) maybe it would be decent enough quality to wear for a trash the dress?
Welcome, Here You Will Be The Unique! : wedding vancouver wedding dress 2222470 EBAYDRESS

But seriously, has anyone out there purchased any made-to-order ebay dresses from China? Share your photos, share your horror stories, or maybe someone out there has had some luck?

i bought a dress from an ebay seller in shanghai and made requests of them by just showing a picture and they sent me back exactly what i wanted. the seller that you have above, well i purchased a dress from that seller and although it was nice, it certainly wasn’t like what was pictures in the listing. for the price i paid, i didn’t feel too bad, so i ended up trying again…

Julius Bridal has a good reputation on a lot of boards, I bought my Julius second hand from another bride on Indiebride and I love it.
You can send a picture to Julius and they will give you an estimate, or pick one from their site and give them your measurements.
The quality is not great, especially the fabric but it’s a great way to get a dress I could never afford myself.
I do know that a lot of brides had issues with it ethically, but I feel that most bridal dresses are made in pretty bad labor circumstances anyways so at least I’m cutting out the middle man.

I bought one that was a ebay ‘custom make’ of my dream dress….. it was terrrrrrrible!!! We did all of the measurements correctly, but it came in looking as though it were for someone shaped completely different. The material was really, really bad and the neckline was wrong. I would say unless you know the vendor and factories, save yourself the shipping cost and go with with a local seamstress. By the way, I ended up getting my dream dress (A monique lhullier) shortly after and it was worth ever penny!

I too used Julius bridal. Although it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, it was gorgeous. I never had one of those “this is my dress” moments in the bridal stores so it was perfect for me. And great material.

I contacted a handful of the ebay sellers about getting a replica of a Pronovias dress (style Ideal). The one I ended up with was $250 shipping included with hand stitched crystals, embroidery, and lace. Granted it wasn’t as great a quality as the original, but they did use heavy satin and the overall effect was almost exactly the same as the designer dress. At less than a fifth of the cost of the designer dress, I was surprised that it was as well made as it was. The measurements I will say were a little small, but I should have added a few inches to my measurements since I know I am probably plump by Chinese standards (at a US size 4). My dad loved the dress — after I decided I wanted to get a silk gown instead! My friends and I have been thinking of ways I could wear it. We’re thinking of going to the mall and just seeing what happens. :)

You can get some great deals on ebay. However, I learned the hard way to stick to established brands. I bought my original bridesmaid’s dresses from a custom dressmaker on ebay. They turned out horrible. They were fluorescent orange instead of tangerine. The dresses were made floor-length instead of knee-length. They had such heavy lining that the underside of the dress dragged from beneath.

I’d also let brides be aware that the majority of dresses they buy in bridal shopes come from the very same sweat sops these are made in, specifically demitrios and anything fro Cavids Bridal. Chack out “One Perfect Day: The Selling of the American Wedding.”

i bought 2 dresses from ebay which were both from China. I didn’t like how the first one came out (it was nicely made but not really elegant) so i custom ordered the second one. The materials are cheap… they call it chinese satin however it looks like cotton/polyester (not elegant looking at all… looks like bed sheets). The second dress was beautiful only to find out 2 weeks later after really examining the dress that there were what looked like gashed in the sequenced tulle part of the dress. It had a beautiful train which i was totally excited about, however, what they did was they took sequenced tulle, cut it out around its sequenced edges and sow it on top of main tulle of the dress, and in some parts it’s not even sowed, it’s glued!! I hope that makes sense. So when you look at it closely, you can tell that the tulle on top of the other tulle is cut and sowed. It does make a great trash the dress however, when you put it on, you don’t feel like a bride. I wish i had saved the money from those 2 dresses and gotten myself a really nice dress for the rehersal dinner. My suggestion is to stay away from chinese vendors on ebay, either go rent a really nice dress or places like david’s bridal is a great place. I’m not the biggest fan of david’s bridal but i had rather much gotten dresses from DB than on ebay china. Oh yeah, and the reason why the dress is so cheap and the shipping is so expensive is because if you decide to return it, you only get the amount of the dress back (which is usually 1 cents to 10 dollars) Shipping is their profit to keep. Good luck!!

I tried kakubeauty as well and it was horrible. the dresss ended above my ankles (despite correct measurement plus extra inches just to be on the safe side), the lace was cut so sloppily and glued on badly, so that it fell off already in places when it arrived, the fabric is ok, boning is not functional at all but worst of all the zipper was broken when dress arrived. they wanted to have more money to send me another dress… it’s a scam.

i had a poor experience with efushop.com. it was recommended by my dad’s coworker (in china)..and i have to admit, their fit was excellent. but they did not follow the design despite several emails and phone conversations. it definitely wasn’t a communication error because both of my parents were on the phone (with my design in hand and i am also a fashion designer so i know how to accurately sketch on the computer) to make sure there was nothing “lost in translation.” i had my wedding dress and 4 bridesmaids dresses made. the bridesmaids dresses were pretty decent. the biggest error was that i drew all of them empire waist and they made all of them a regular waistline (not so flattering). but everything else fit very well. i actually mailed them my own fabric because i didn’t trust their selection. the wedding dress was a whole other story. though it fit me to a tee, the design was not what i drew. and after a looong phone call from my father, we got most of our money refunded (even though they normally only refund the cost of the dress and not shipping). but it took quite a fight i have to say. so this is my official warning against efushop.com. i think if you order one of their designs already on the web, i think it won’t be so bad..but i don’t advise to do their custom made designs. and now..i don’t know what to do with my extra dress either…

I had a poor experience with an eBay made-to-wear dress from China — the craftsmanship was terrible, and it didn’t fit correctly AT ALL. I got my money back in full.

I did end up buying my wedding dress on eBay, but it was a new-with-tags dress from a mainstream maker from a U.S. bridal shop.

Good luck!

There was a company on there ( I can’t remember their name) that makes “made-to-order” dresses, as well as ones they’ve already done and can custom size. (They didn’t use photos of the manufacture, but their own final results)

And they have awesome feedback. I was tempted, but asked if they could make customer cap sleeves for me. I gave them my measurements, what I was looking for and showed them that I wanted the same sleeves as one of their other dresses.

The results? For $15 TOTAL, I got BEAUTIFUL hand sewn cap sleeves with little fasteners to attach to my dress to make it exactly as I wanted.

I definitely would consider them again.

I got my dress from ebay seller jeffliu8000. While it’s obvioulsy not the same quality of the $5000 dress I sent pictures of, it’s a very nice dress and looks just like the photos. I’d say the quality is better than some of the less expensive dresses I tried on for sure. I sent in my measurements, and I think they made the dress quite well, although it did need a couple of minor alterations. I got it about 3 weeks after I ordered. I also got a matching veil for free, to my surprise!

I got my dress from ebay seller BridalDress4U, because I didn’t want to spend over $1000 for a tea length dress for our justice of the peace ceremony. I’d been looking for a few months for a white tea length dress, so I turned to Ebay.

It came pretty quickly- about a month later, and it fit perfectly. It is not a perfect replica of the Marisa Style #584
that they pictured :
http://cgi.ebay.com/A-line-Lace-Tea-Length-Wedding-Dress-Style-Marisa_W0QQitemZ180163290924QQihZ008QQcategoryZ63851QQcmdZViewItem

The lace isn’t quite as nice, especially at the hemline, but overall I was very happy to get the style I wanted, I didn’t need alterations, and I spent less than half of what the Marisa dress cost.

If you click on my name, it should bring you to our wedding flickr page so you can see the dress.

No one guessed that I got my dress from Ebay!

And Hong Kong is known for their seamstresses, right? :)

I think I will actually get a “real dress” for our real wedding, because it is worth it to me to splurge for the big day. But I highly recommend BridalDress4U, they have great feedback and scores….

Good Luck Miss Milkshake. I love Vancouver, what a great place for a wedding.

I purchased one from Julius bridal for 20 bucks, just to see what it would look like when I got it. Was interested in a dress for my reception.

The material was not that great, pillow case material and the dress was made for a giant.
The size was off, didnt want to bother with alterations.

They were real nice and sent me a mailing label to send the dress back and offered a refund. Which is very nice!!

hi girls

well I had first hand experience with Julius Bridal in October 07. I am getting married in 7 months and fell in love with the ballgowns on juliusbridal.com. I decided to fly to New York and see his dresses. I emailed Julius and made an appointment to some to his home where his wife Mimi helped me try on several dresses i liked. That was a Wednesday afternoon. I fell in love with Royal Romance, a massive ballgown in Iovry on silk. I must have tried about 8 dresses and i have a few photos if anyone wants to see them, please email me: aoife@mbsltd.ie. I got the dress at a steal price and all the matching accessories were included. I got the underskirt, shawl, veil, handbag and alterations in the price. As my flight was on the Saturday evenng home to Ireland, I collected the dress on Friday. Mimi made a few alterations to the dress and even gave me spare jewels etc in case any fell off etc. She even packed it up nicely to fit in the overhead compartment on the plane.

All in all, i found JB so profssional, co-operative and extremely reasonable. All the dresses i tried were magnificent and I would recommend every bride to be give them a try…you will not be dissappointed!
