Ring Things For Boys

January 29th, 2008 @ 3:16 pm by Mrs. Toucan

… and sports nuts like me!Miss Peacock’s post from yesterday reminded me of my own alternative to keeping my ring safe. I always take off my ring when I’m cooking or cleaning, so I needed a little holder in the kitchen to keep my ring safe. How tragic would it be if it actually fell down the drain!?

Then one night, Mr. Toucan presented me with a little gift - the most awesome idea (to me at least) for a ring holder ever:

Ta-dah! Presenting Mr. David Ortiz, aka BIG PAPI, the large father. :) (please be nice about my sports affiliations! I’m locally tied to them - I can’t help it!) :)

Mr. Toucan, being pretty creative (and having an eerily vast knowledge of toys), searched high and low for the Red Sox player figurine suitable to hold a ring, and a McFarlane version David came home. So now, Mr. Ortiz’s job (aside from hitting home runs) is to sit in my kitchen and hold and keep my ring safe. :)

David Ortiz in his new home, wearing my ring.

McFarlane makes a whole lot of different figures (I’m assuming most people don’t like Mr. Papi as much as I do). Really any figure with arms, legs, and/or accessory that sticks up would work. A couple of examples:

Joe Montana, Ted Williams, Wayne Gretsky, Bill Russell (look at that leg!)

Not a sports fan? Maybe you’d like a character from tv or movies:

Bart Simpson, Kate from LOST, Austin Powers, Napoleon from Napoleon Dynamite

I think these make a super fun alternative for ring holders, and plan on eventually getting one for Mr. Toucan’s wedding ring (oh yes, I’ll be the crazy with random little figurines scattered around everywhere ;) ).

That is the best idea ever! I’m going to look for a Buffalo Sabres one! :)

Toucan, we need to talk.

While the idea is good theory, I’m not sure that I can really support it in practice, since you had to get Big Papi. Deep down inside of me, you could possibly find a little bit of love for Manny, but Papi?

::thinks about supporting the idea::

Nope. Can’t do it. I *might* be able to give you a temporary pass, what with your Boston affiliation and all, but that’s it.

Love,
Diehard “There’s always next year” Cleveland fan waiting for our freaking championship from at least one sports team because the city she loves needs it so badly and Boston, you’ve had your chance at glory and while I rooted for you in 2004 at this point in time you’re as bad as New York with your baseball payroll and sense of entitlement (aka Dahlia)

haha, Dahlia. You are talking to the one Boston fan that openly acknowledges that we are no better than that hated team from New York. In fact, I think we’re worse probably worse than them now. I admit it. It doesn’t make me love them less, though.

My Boston fandom is really the equivalent to the mother-child type of love. They majorly overspend. They sell-out to corporate sponsors. They cheat (spygate!). Everyone hates them. But I forgive them, and I love them. I can’t help it! :)

Also, I actually wanted the Manny figure (the ring would have gone around the bat!), but we couldn’t find him! They actually don’t make any of my favorite players because I tend to love the lesser knowns.

OOOOO–MMMMMMM–GGGGGGGG I looooove it!!! Sadly, since I am a Sox fan and Mr.GV is an Evil Empire fan, I don’t know if that idea would be supported in our house. (The one night we’ve spent in separate rooms in the 5 years we’ve lived together was the night the Sox won the 2004 Series… he was out of town for the 2007 win.) Maybe I could get away with a Milwaukee Brewer (my childhood affiliation)… Dahlia, much as I love my Sox, I would do just about anything to see the Brewers win. Visit pypftb.com and you’ll see!

Ah. Well, I’ll let it go, since you couldn’t find Manny.

And at least we share one enemy in common….

Mr. Toucan is so clever to think of such an original solution! Brings a whole new meaning to “baseball diamond.” You should send ortiz a pic and ask him to autograph it for you. :)

If I hadn’t already painfully trained my ADD self to always take off my rings and put them in the same place as soon as I enter the house, I would be all over Napolean!

Hmmmm… maybe I need him to hold my car keys, which I still manage to misplace pretty regularly. Maybe that and a “Vote for Pedro” keychain would overcome my skatterbrainedness.

I personally cracked up when I saw the awesome flexibility of Mr. Bill Russell.

beanchar, you are so smart! I think I might “invite” Papi to the wedding (as well as a few other favorites). Maybe I’ll include the picture in his invite! haha!

Oh and yes, I think the Napoleon one is GREAT. It cracks me up.

as a yankees fan, i’ll have to figure out a way to overlook the whole ortiz thing. lol. it’ll be hard but maybe, just maybe i may be able to…

nope. it didn’t take.

lol, that said, i can forget for a moment and say in the most general of terms that this is a great idea. now i’ll have to go home and see if my derek jeter figurine can handle my ring. [i also have a alex rodriguez one, given to me by a friend as a joke because i no longer adore him like i did in high school. so now he takes just up space. figures. art imitating life. hahaa]

I love it! Beanchar, your baseball diamond joke is perfect. My FI proposed at Fenway, on the Green Monster (not the jumbo tron … the real, manual scoreboard!) and that was one of the first things I said; “I have a baseball diamond!” (He works for the Red Sox.)
What a clever idea for storing your ring, and I love that Mr. Toucan is a toy buff. Sounds like the recipe for fun :-) Good find! (the guy _and_ the figurine!)

Mr. Toucan is awesome. What a catch! (Pun intended. ;) )

I love it! Of course I would be green with envy if you had found a Manny. I *heart* Manny!

Love it! I just stuck my ring on my Tek bobblehead that sits at my desk, and I’m thinking he might have to change locations to a place where I take my ring off. My FMIL just gave me a nice little silver box, but as a die-hard Boston fan, I don’t think she would be offended if I let Tek guard my ring (as well as he guards home plate!)
