I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. About Mrs. Milkshake

Sottero And Midgley

January 29th, 2008 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Milkshake

For all of you keeping up with my gown play by play, I’d hoped to perhaps venture into downtown Seattle on Monday to get the last three great stores in the area over and done with….but I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow.
snow

Being a person from the west coast, snow is scary, and this kept me from jumping into my car truck (yes, my daily commuter vehicle it is a V6 pickup, a 4×4 no less) and braving the 520 across Lake Washington. This is a phenomenon only experienced by people in Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA, as people who’ve relocated to these regions from back east think we’ve got four heads coming JSM1122-CSout of our shoulders when we fret about 2 inches of snow. The fear of the 520 in bad weather conditions, though, is a legitimate fear I believe, since the waves can come up and over the edge on stormy days.

So today I’ve cozied up in some sweats and discovered some e-candy from sotteroandmidgley - who knew there was more great Maggie goodness out there (well, I didn’t)! This little image on the right did not have a corresponding large image on the site, but I love the concept of sleeves. Why are sleeves so rare! And why are the two boleros that each store seems to carry so hideous looking? Many a store has told me a seamstress can easily make tulle sleeves and tulle boleros but I’m a little hesitant.

I love this sweet little number (oh how I’d love to pull off pale pink on my wedding day). I can’t decide if I like this one better than vernice, and then again, there was that pink madina vadache

These two dresses remind me of Melissa Sweet (although it could just be the effect the sashes have on me since so few of Maggie’s are featured with sashes):

I like the concept of this dress but a) the lace is too dense in the ovary-area and should just be limited to the bustline and the bottom, and b) I think the train should be made entirely of the chunky tulle.

Hello Cinderella dress! This color is called oceana. I love it!

Too funny Miss Milkshake! Over here on the east side of the state we have 8 inches of snow over a quarter inch of ice. Luckily I found my dress Friday, before the fun really started, but your picture of not quite enough snow to actually hide the ground still brings a smile to my face. In three or four days we might have enough snowmelt to see the ground again…

I would have no idea what to do if snow was on the ground when I woke up either! I hear ya!
I like that I don’t have to walk through it, but I can go see it just about an hour away if I wanted too!

Those Melissa Sweet dresses are amazing! Love that first one!!

I seriously cannot believe how you can try on so many dresses. *claps*
I visited only 2 bridal salons and did not even try on more than 10 dresses (combined) before being absolutely sick of it. That being said, I bought 2 wedding dresses and my wedding is in June. Maybe you need to just bite the bullet and just get one because there are other things to do before the wedding!

Okay - I can’t judge b/c I live in Texas! 2-inches of snow is a winter wonderland down here! And no, we don’t know how to drive in it either. ;-)

I tried on the second Sottero-Midgeley dress (the sweetheart neckline, pale pink), only in the champagne color. It is BEAUTIFUL, and although you can’t really see it in the pics, there is really light and slight clear beads sewn in with the gathers on the bodice. Also, the fabric is beautiful - it’s a silk, if I can remember correctly.
This was my second choice - I went with a Pronovias dress (Dango), but I really did like this dress too.

BTW - the lady at the shop here told me that Sottero-Midgley is actually Maggie’s daughter!

The second one is my Dress! I ended up going for ivory and not the pink (my pale anglo skin just rejected the pink) but I love it! Yay for Sottero Midgley!

I agree with you about the “ovary” dress– something about the way they’ve used the tulle makes it look like a flock of swans stuck their beaks up her skirt!

The pink one!!! please!!!

it’s simple and gorgeous - even if it was plain ol ivory.

Anyways, you’re such a skinny minny, milkshake, you probably look good in everything…! Lucky!

I was debating between the Sottero-Midgeley and the Vernice, and after a very hard decision, decided to go with the Vernice. I really wanted a plain white silk dress and it was exactly what I wanted!

I got the 2nd dress (the sweetheart neckline) in ivory. I love love love it! I tried on about 8 dresses before I tried this one on and as soon as I put it on; I knew it was the one! I don’t really have hips, but on my wedding day, this dress will help create the illusion of hips. Otherwise I have a pretty boyish figure. I absolutely love it. I found a pretty good deal on it too. Let me know if you decide on it. Good Luck!

She is no less than AMAZING and has a trunk show going on right now…….

I am in loooove with those two with the pleated tulle, especially the one with the black sash and tiers . . . sigh. Too bad my wedding is in only three months and I can’t get it in time. Plus, it is a bit over my budget. :(

How will I ever find another dress I love?
