About Mrs. Petunia

This Counts As Something Blue, Right? : wedding ft. lauderdale traditions 463947451 77494c7d26 O

I hope a sweet shade of blue on the toe nails will cover this one of the ’something ’something requirements, since much to Mr. Petunia’s dismay, I axed a garter long ago (along with its accompanying toss). I was going to do away with the tradition altogether, not being much of a superstitious gal in the first place and unsure of what I’d use for the something old, but I figure it’s best to get good luck on my side than against it. That, and my sweet MOH offered me her grandmother’s handkerchief (something borrowed, too).

For the blues, I’d once thought one of those darling flirty boy short undies would do, but then thought twice about all those abundant rufflies, as I like to call them, bunching up under my dress: I’ll stick to a pair that’s plain and solid and seamless, thank you very much.

I could ask my sweet seamstress to sew one of these puppies on my dress, but the poor woman’s busy enough already, with all that nipping and tucking she’s had to do of late. Plus it would just add one more thing to the already growing list of things I have to order and then stalk the UPS man for.

This Counts As Something Blue, Right? : wedding ft. lauderdale traditions Il 430x01

No, I think I’ll stick to something easy (and easy to change), like nail polish. If anyone knows of one already or feels like keeping a look out for a nice shade of blue, please send me its name! All I’ve seen so far is this one by Hard Candy:

This Counts As Something Blue, Right? : wedding ft. lauderdale traditions 845156 01

But it’s unfortunately called “Frigid,” which I’m thinking is an unlucky color to wear on your wedding day, no? Bah! ;-)

Hi! I think that’s a great idea! Here are some colors…
OPI: Russian Navy, DS Fantasy, DS Glamour (pretty blue-violet), Light My Sapphire, OPI Ink–
Essie: Aruba Blue, Blueberry Crumb, St Barth’s Blue (gorgeous pale blue), Barbados Blue.

My toes were my something blue too! I used OPI’s “Give me the Moon”, a slightly shimmery light blue. I liked the name, too! :-) It’s part of their Night Brights collection if you want to look it up on their website.

My toes were my something blue also! I got a French pedi, with a line of alternating blue and silver sparkles between the white part and rest of the nail.

misschickie: you are GOOD! thanks a ton for those!

Scoobert: let’s see - I’ve seen a few places online, but for sure, at least these two. The picture on the post is from Etsy seller MondeDesign (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9142203) and I believe a place online called Written In Thread also does them (http://writteninthread.com/Products.htm)

I axed the garter toss as well - my fiance said it’s not really the message he wants to send about his future wife! Luckily, we were of the same mind set about this! As for the blue - well, I was *kind of hoping* that my eyes could count, or is that totally cheating?!?

I’m going with blue nails too! But only on my toes as I think my mother would kill me otherwise. My first option was blue shoes, but again, she freaked. I’m going to troll the Sephoras around town, then the MAC counter, and work my way up. I’d love to do a Navy, but we shall see.

I also axed the garter toss. My fiance was heartbroken, but too bad. I don’t think anyone would want to see my fiance taking what looks like a rubber band off the end of a sausage-like limb. Ain’t. Gonna. Happen.

I think I might also nix the bouquet toss. It just seems full of cheese, and not the good camembert.

I also nixed the garter toss and bouquet toss. I don’t think one person noticed.

If your local drugstore carries Sally Hansen’s line “nail prisms”, I remember there being a couple of blue shades that might work. They have a prismatic, color changing quality. Wet ‘n Wild also have a Wild Shine line that has several shades of blue as well and heck, they’re only 99cents! There’s also China Glaze’s “For Audrey” that is supposed to be the tiffany blue color (look towards bottom of the page) http://www.head2toebeauty.com/nail_polishes/npo_china_glaze1.htm

Chanel’s Blue Satin is a really pretty deep navy, and they also have a sheer blue sparkle (don’t remember the name - azure maybe??) that you can either top it with, or use as the base for a french manicure. The Blue Satin is more navy blue than OPI’s, in my opinion, because OPI’s can look green at times in the light.

Thanks for the tip Miss Petunia - I’ll try both of those recommendations. :)

I would definitely go to your local nail salon and try out what they have in blues b/c the colors can look so different on the toes than in the bottle.

FYI, Opi has a “Try It On Studio” to look a colors, but again monitor color and actual color are not always the same. Still fun to look at all the shades!:

If you like frigid, go for it…I am not one for wedding superstitions (I never understand why it’s a big deal to dance to a really great song during the reception, no matter how “un wedding-y” it feels). ;-)

We also axed the garter (and bouquet). It was my husbands request not to fish up the dress for the garter, and I happily concurred.

I tried to nix the garter toss, but when I mentioned it to my fiance, turns out he really wanted it. Why must he care about that of all things?!

My gf just got married a few months ago and was missing the “something blue” and I sewed on a little blue ribbon on the inside of her dress. It was very cute! :)
