About Ms. Dahlia

Ring-A-Ding-Ding*

January 30th, 2008 @ 12:56 pm by Ms. Dahlia

That’s right, folks. We have purchased our wedding rings. We had a really good experience with Mr. Dahlia’s Artcarved engagement ring, and decided that we wanted to stick with Artcarved for our wedding rings- because of the guarantees and their lifetime resizing promise. So we went to look at rings last week, and placed our order this week. In the process of doing this, we learned that January is one of the slowest months of the year for jewelers, so it is a lot easier to negotiate prices.

So. On to the goods.

It’s important to note that I specifically did not want a wedding ring with stones (diamond or otherwise.) We do quite a bit of traveling, and I would rather have a non-flashy wedding ring that I can wear all the time than to have a separate ring for travel.

Given the no bling requirement that I had, we also decided to get matching bands. Now, I know that matching bands is something that very few people seem to do these days, but…we just liked the idea. My ring (4mm milgrain):

Did you and your fiance/husband opt to get matching rings? Why or why not?

*apologies to Frank

We went with plain platinum bands since we’re both pretty hands on. I didn’t want to be worried about my wedding ring like I did with my engagment ring.

It was pretty easy to match since they were so plain; basically the same metal with a comfort fit.

i have the same thoughts as you on the wedding band- we want them to match, and i don’t want to ever take it off (i.e. for travel) we’re both getting plain simple platinum bands. i can’t WAIT!

I am SO TORN about my wedding band. FI is getting a band exactly liket he ones you picked out, actually. But I can’t decide: plain band or prong-set diamond band.

We are getting matching bands. My fiancé demanded it basically. He really wanted matching bands so that is what we are getting.

I’m actually getting 2 bands. Jewish tradition (I’m not Jewish but FI is so we’re incorporating aspects of the culture into our wedding) states that the bride and groom get plain metal bands. However, my personal wish is to have a band that matches my engagement ring so we’re going to do both! And then I never have to feel bad if I need to take off the rings with the stones because I’ll have the equally meaningful plain band.

We have matching recycled yellow gold bands from greenkarat.com. I think matching bands is a nice symbol of marriage. And I second you on the travel safety!

We got matching plain white gold bands engraved on the inside. FI was pretty insistent about having matching bands, and since it mattered to him, I was happy to oblige.

We have matching metal, platinum. But, my ring goes well with my engagement ring and has tiny set round diamonds. His is pretty plain but has a two-tone look by having a brushed stripe on the middle of the band. So, no, they don’t match, but we both love our rings and chose ones we will be comfortable wearing for years to come.

I have an heirloom ring, so we just tried to get him a ring in the same metal.

One day, we accidentally showed up at a party four hours early, so after apologizing up one side and down the other, we went to a nearby mall, ostensibly to look at camping stoves. We bought a wedding ring instead. On sale. For $92. At Kmart.

There: I’ve admitted it.

We didn’t get matching rings. My engagement ring was yellow gold and we actually designed it so the plain half-round 2mm wedding band would fit into it. You can hardly see it, so any decoration or bling would’ve gone to waste.

And his tastes are definitely for silver-colored metals, and obviously something wider and a bit more interesting than a 2mm half-round, so he went with a 6mm white gold band with a hammered detail around the center.

No matching, but they fit our personalities perfectly!

We’re really looking forward to getting matching rings. They’re going to have a leaf/vine carved pattern around them. That pattern will hopefully be the basis of the design on the cake too.

Not matching for us. I got 2 diamond eternity bands. My man is quite picky and he didn’t like any of the traditional wedding bands, so we got something made to his taste and is so perfect for him. It’s a really thick black jade band engraved with his last name in Kanji so it’s a perfect combo of us (I’m Chinese - so the jade and he’s Japanese - so his name) I’m thinking that eventually I’ll get one made but in pink jade.

We went to a custom jade jeweler. I really reccommend them if anybody is interested let me know!

Not only are our wedding bands matching (mine is much thinner, but both are plain gold bands), but we added the cost of them both and then split that equally! It was my fiance’s idea, and I think it is a good representation of us. I looked at allllllll of the bands in the area- from diamond eternities and paves to even yellow sapphires, but nothing stopped me in my tracks like seeing the thin plain gold band on my hand. :)

Matching platinum from Tiffany & Co. Mine is 3mm, his is 6mm. We didn’t plan to get matching bands at all, but we both liked the same one :)
