About Mrs. Bee

Welcome To Weddingbee!

January 30th, 2008 @ 3:57 pm by Mrs. Bee

In order to get to know all our new readers, we’re launching a regular feature called Welcome, where you can introduce yourself to the hive!

And since we’re getting to know you, we thought we’d share some weddingbee trivia with each post so you get to know us a little better as well.

Did you know…. that someone owned the weddingbee.com domain name and sold it to us for $1500 when he was able to purchase a domain name that he had wanted instead?

So if you’re new to weddingbee, or even if you’ve been reading for a long time, please tell us a little bit about yourself!  Tell us your city of residence, your wedding date, and anything else you’d like to share!  Oh and of course - welcome to the hive! :)

Hey there - this site is my daily guilty pleasure =) FI and I have been long distance for 6 years hence the “two cities” part of my SN - we are getting married May 24, 2008 in Northern Va/Wash DC.
I would LOVE to teach anyone that needs a hand about making a powerpoint slideshow for their wedding - with all the special effects and music! =)

Hi! A little about myself.

Name: Reila
Occupation: Electrical Engineer/Grad Student
Residence: Orange County, California
Wedding Date: August 9, 2008

We are having a church wedding a hotel reception in southern California where we were both raised. I was never one of those little girls who dreamt about their wedding and at first I didn’t want a small or medium or even large wedding. I just wanted to get married in Hawaii under a waterfall. But fiancee convinced me it would be better as we look back on this to have all our friends a family to share this moment with us. I found weddingbee through google looking for flower hair pins and then I got addicted. I love it, I find inspiration on here everyday, was able to meet another beereader, MissMandy, from here. So welcome other bees, fellow bees, newbees (<— get it..hehe). You’ll love it here.

I just stumbled upon Weddingbee last week and I am totally addicted! This site is entertaining and informative, and I feel so relieved to see that I am not the only wedding planning obssessed bride to be out there!

I was engaged on July 12, 2008 near the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota, the great state where I attended college. Both my fiance and I are Michigan natives and we met and first lived together there, before recently relocating to the Seattle area. Boy do we love it here, but are still planning to be married in Saline, Michigan, just outside of Ann Arbor on September 13, 2008. Our ceremony and reception will be in a beautiful garden location, with an outdoor ceremony, dinner inside a historic carriage house, and dancing outside under a fabulous white pavilion.

Thanks for letting me “bee” part of the hive!

Hi, everyone! I love, love, love this site and have been reading it religiously since I stumbled upon it (I can’t even remember where I found it now) a few months ago. I got engaged in August (on my fiance’s birthday–the best surprise ever!). We’re planning a late September (2008) wedding in Annapolis.

My name’s Jenny and I live in Seattle but will be getting hitched in New York on Long Island. We still do not have a date yet, but we’re looking at August 29th of this year. I can’t wait!

I’ve been reading Weddingbee since Fall of 2006 and it has been my daily dose of wedding fun ever since then!

Hi I’m Liz. I’m getting married somewhere around Monterey California. We don’t have a ceremony site as of yet. We’re getting married on June 7, 2008. I’ve been with my fiancé for almost 9 years and can’t wait to be married. I love this site and wish I were nearly as crafty as some of the girls on here.

Hello all bees! I am from the wonderful city of Chicago, well more the suburbs than the city. Our wedding is planned for July 3, 2009, which means tons of time to get ideas and learn DIY projects from all the Miss and Mrs. Bees. I must be honest in saying as a lover of weddings I have been reading weddingbee for a long time, far before my engagement and yet, I still can’t get enough! Oh and the Miss History part comes from the fiance who is getting his master degree in history and loves it so much, while I can’t stand it….oh it must be love!

Hi! I’m Laura and I live in Boston. We’ve been engaged for 1.5 years and are so laid back in all aspects of planning that even though we have told everyone that we’re getting married this summer (and we WILL), we still don’t have a place or date! Anyways, we hope our wedding is more a danceparty than anything else :) Currently we are considering REVERSING our wedding and honeymoon budgets and just having a cookout for the wedding and then taking off for 6 weeks to europe/south pacific. hmmmm…..lots of thinking to do….not much time!!

So as you can imagine I have a lot of time on my hands so Thank God for the Weddingbee!!! I am addicted.

Angel says:

Hey, this is cool; I want to play. :) I’m in Washington State not too far from Seattle, and I found this site through Junebug back in August when I was doing some research on black bridesmaids dresses for a friend (her mom says no way, she says yes and so on). Then I started finding other cool things on here, and before you know it, I was hooked. I didn’t comment for a while because I wasn’t sure that I should since it had been a few years since I was a bride, but then I just had to throw my two cents in on a post and now I’m here everyday. I’ve also recently become a wedding vendor, so it’s fun using both perspectives.

I’m also addicted to this site, thankfully my FI is understanding :)
My fiance and I met at Iowa State University 6 years ago, but didn’t start dating until about 3 years ago. We’ve been together since and have been engaged for almost half of that 3 years! Now I can finally say I’m getting married THIS year!

Love this idea and that’s really interesting about the domain name Mrs Bee =)

Anywho, my name is Nicole and my fiance and I will be married on October 18 of this year in the GORGEOUS Roger Williams Casino in Providence, RI. We met online (MySpace to be exact) and have been happily together since November 7, 2005 and engaged since Nov 7, 2006… We live together in RI and are the proud furparents to 5 ferrets who are simply the funnest creatures I’ve ever been owned by.

I’m an instructor for a very large international company who happens to be obsessed with reading, Coach, Tiffany’s, driving my car, Apple & my Wii while FH is a video game geek (said with MUCH love) who works in the VG industry and is also an artist.

Hi Hive! I’m Debi and live in Colorado. My FI is in law enforcement and we’ve been engaged since July 4, 2007. I love saying he gave me my own personal sparkler!

Our wedding is set for July 12, 2008 (almost 2 years to the day after we met) and I found weddingbee on accident. I’m not even sure how I found it. But I love it, am an addict. Have found my veil and other useful things on this site. Plus it lets me know I’m not alone and it’s a nice place to have people put things into perspective!

I revised a little Valentines Day poem (included it in my cards for the swap!) that I think reflects how I feel when I’m here:

On Valentine’s Day, we think about
The people who are dear,
How much they add to life’s delight
Whenever they are near.

Weddingbee has been a total joy
Such pleasant company,
I very much appreciate
Our compatibility!

Long Distance engagement but we were together for the 4+ yrs of our relationship before the distance. Very budget concious bride trying to pull of the day of her life with less money than most.

I’m Michelle, and I’m a Weddingbee addict! I got on to the site in late 2006, a few months before we got engaged and have been an avid reader/ sometimes poster ever since.

My high school sweetheart and I are getting married on May 17, 2008, what will be our 12th anniversary (12 years since the day we were talking on the phone and decided that we were ‘together’… ah to be 16 again!) We are both recent PhD graduates in different fields, and California transplants (now in Chicago, the very windy, very cold city) who grew up in Calgary, Canada, and went to college (UBC) in Vancouver.

We’re getting married in Banff, Alberta, one of the most beautiful mountain towns on Earth. I am DIYing a ton of things for the wedding, in part to keep costs down but mostly because I think I am distantly related to Martha Stewart, and we want to make our wedding really reflective of us!

Thank you to everyone who makes this such an awesome resource!

My name is Ali. My fiance and I met five years ago in Pensacola, Florida, and that is where we will be married on May 24 of this year. I can’t wait! We’re having a mash-up of traditions and etcetera with the merging of Filipino and Scottish families, a paper theme, and the hope of karaoke at the reception!

I don’t usually talk about wedding plans in public, and I haven’t been as aggressive as a lot of other brides are. I’m happy that my loved ones are helping work through all the infinite possibilies (along with help from Weddingbee!) Random fact: I worked in an office for a whole year before people actually noticed I had an engagement ring on.

My FI and I are planning a May 2009 wedding near my hometown, which is north of Pittsburgh. We are hoping to get started with the planning soon so we have something to say to family and friends who always ask us how things are going. So far, we have nothing done.

My name is Kim… I started reading weddingbee when one of my good friends joined the hive as a weddingbee blogger (Miss Hummingbird).

My fiance and I are from Toronto. We’re both aspiring filmmakers. We got engaged last October at the Toronto Zombie Walk (which Miss Hummingbird posted about:D). As Tim Burton, gore and horror enthusiasts, we thought it would be very appropriate to pick our favourite day of the year to get married… HALLOWEEN! So we’re getting hitched Halloween 2009 in a boutique hotel downtown. It’ll be a Halloween Town themed wedding.

Our hobbies include designer toy collecting, DIY and prop making and making fake blood :)

Ok so we haven’t actually set a date we were more worried about where to have the wedding. Our families don’t live close to each other so it was a huge dilema. We have decided to have a destination wedding (for 1/2 of our guests and us too) in Litchfield County, Connecticut. We are having it on my family’s property under a giant tent for both of our huge families and friends. We figure we will let the caterer have the final choice on the date. We will pick the date from what they have available. This took us 3 months to decide!

I love weddingbee! I read it every day… religiously… multiple times a day. It is the best source for wedding info and inspiration - so many aspects of my wedding have been inspired by the bees. I am originally from California but I am living in New York - have been here for about 4 years. I’m having my wedding in Laguna Beach, CA in 2009. Sometimes I wish I could be a bee… but first of all I know its hard to become one, and also I’m not in a position to reveal personal info due to the nature of my job. Hi this is my first comment ever. I must confess I am just a weddingbee stalker/addict that does not even have a e-ring on her finger! And refreshes her weddingbee page religiously. lol. When I entered my first “serious” relationship…the wedding fever began and I haven’t stopped since. I spend my time daydreaming of color schemes and possible favors while collecting all the wonderful inspirations and ideas from the engaged brides in hopes of going full throttle once I’m done with law school and all that jazz. My bf thinks I’m crazy and he probably gets freaked out every time i forward him a picture of my ideal wedding invitation/location/plate setting….but the sweetie plays along with me anyway…:)

I work for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a fundraising manager - my fiance is in the computer programming world. We met at a baseball game in 2004 and have a beautiful 2 year old son together. I heart weddingbee - and after reading all of your posts, I don’t feel so crazy checking in religiously every hour for new posts!

Hi hive,

My name is Nidhi and I currently live in NYC. I am actually from India and came to the US for college and have stuck around since then. My fiance is in India (boo on long distance) and we’ve been together since high school (on and off and now forever :-)). Our wedding date is August 21st and I am excited and nervous at the same time cause we’ll finally be together.

I got addicted to weddingbee thanks to my co-worker/cubicle mate who’s planning her August wedding… and now half our conversations start with.. “Did you read on weddingbee..”

Hi, I am LB! I live in Los Angeles, and my guy and I are having a tiny civil ceremony followed by a going away reception (followed by a Disneyland honeymoon!) out here in April. Then I move to Long Island - where HE lives and where we’re having the big shebang Oct 26th!

I love this site. It’s so much fun!

I’m Glittergrl from San Francisco. I work in the industry and got engaged on NYE. I found WeddingBee because I was getting hits to my website from some Bee’s saying lovely things about us. So when I got engaged this is where I came.

My wedding is a vintage bohemian affair. I’m blessed to have an all-star cast of players involved in the event. Working in weddings, I never thought I’d be into planning my own, but I’m so into it! I can finally put all this info to use!

I’m getting married in Aug 2008 — just 6months! Yikes!

Hi, I’m Robin from Louisville, KY. I’m an archivist and my fiance is a history professor from England (teaching in Southern Indiana). We are getting married on October 4th. Reading Wedding Bee has been really helpful! It, and other blogs, have been saving my life! Our wedding is going to have a somewhat art nouveau/pre-raphaelite flair.

Hi, my name is Eden, and I’m a complete Weddingbee addict. A friend introduced me to the site and my day hasn’t begun until I get my “daily digest.” Living in the DC area, planning a wedding on Cape Cod in September, and moving to Chicago in the meantime. Fiance and I are both from MA, die-hard New England sports fans, and we met at Yankee Stadium while I was living in NYC. We wanted to embrace our MA roots by getting married there, but Chicago is home to us. I’m a total liberal and he’s very conservative, and when it came to the wedding, I would have chosen a theme or costume party, but we’re going the traditional route, and I’ve realized it’s fine…because I still basically get to wear a costume ;)

Hi I’m Alexis. My fiance and I live in Los Angeles but are planning our 26 July 2008 wedding in Sonoma, Ca. Both the ceremony and the reception will be at a beautiful winery up there. Planning a wedding in a city you don’t live in sure is a pain! Whose idea was this anyway?
I found weddingbee through another great blog - brooklyn bride. And, as everyone else is, I am totally addicted now. Refresh, refresh, new posts, new posts!

Hello Hive! My name is Jen and I am a Weddingbee-aholic! I am 28, live in sunny San Diego, CA and planning a fall 2008 wedding in Los Angeles. I am an accountant by day and an aspiring DIY-wedding girl by night (working on my Valentine’s cards for the Bee Swap has been really fun!). Weddingbee has truly inspired me in so many ways. Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Bee, and BIL Bee for creating such an amazing community for us brides-to-bee!

Michelle says:

Hi, everyone! I’m a relative new”bee” to the site, and as you can see, I’m a sucker for a good (bad) pun. I’m in Philadelphia, and FH and I are planning a summer wedding in the city… having only gotten engaged last week! Needless to say, it’s going to be a crazy few months. I work at the library, and he’s in med school. We’ve been friends since we were 10 years old, and have been dating for the past 6ish years (a summer fling after our high school graduation that kept on flinging, and flinging…). We officially met during the 5th grade geography bee, where I beat him by one question in the sudden death tiebreaker round. So, Miss Shortcake, I’ve been digging the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego posts!

Hi everybody! I’m Cortney and I’ve been reading WeddingBee since I found it on Xanga over 2 years ago! I’m not engaged, I’m not a vendor, but I simply love weddings! If my current career plans fall through, I know what I’ll be doing: planning events! I’m from PDX, but I’m going to school in Seattle. WeddingBee is so much fun to read and to join in on. Thank you to all the Bees who let us take a peek into such an important part of their lives!

Hi! I’ve been reading weddingbee for over a year - longer than I’ve been dating my future husband! I’m a small-town girl hoping for a high-class, high-style wedding, and love seeing what brides in big cities are doing.

We like to joke that I’m a little bit country and he’s a little bit rock and roll - and that’s the vibe we’re hoping for our wedding as well.

We both work in automotive manufacturing (he’s a mechanical engineer and I am a project manager), and I’m also a grad student in safety engineering.

Love all the bees, and everything on here - thank so much for sharing with me!

I’m here in Louisville and my guy just moved back to the east coast to start a new job (I’ll be moving there, too, after the wedding, but I have to finish school first). I love Weddingbee!

I’m Mel from Maryland and have been engaged since May ‘07. Our wedding is for June 21, 2008. I am in marketing and FI is a computer programmer. I happened onto Weddingbee about 6 months ago when a friend mentioned the site and have been reading ever since. I have received great idea inspirations as well as some great budget tips. Weddingbee is a great community of bees all trying their best to let us in on their planning and sharing their special occassion with us. I must say I have been getting to know a little bit more of the bees through BeeTV. That is one addicting chat. =D Loving it, Keep it Up!!

Hi Bee Readers!
FI and I are getting married in Harbor Springs, Michigan. It’s a small resort town on Lake Michigan about 6 hrs from Chicago, where we currently live. I’ve spent my summers up there my whole life and his family vacationed there too (though that’s not how we met!). We’re doing a very resorty, preppy, summery wedding and things are coming along (with a few stumbling blocks thrown in!) I’m not sure how I stumbled across weddingbee, but I do think it’s a great inspiration source for me! This, the local boards on the knot, and the preppy wedding blog are my daily reads.

Hello all! I stumbled across Weddingbee last week and have read it religiously everyday…instead of doing homework for school :-/ My FH and I have been together for nearly 8 years, and we’ll finally get married on August 9, 2008 on Seneca Lake in Upstate New York. We’re getting married 10 days after I take the bar exam, so I have to have all of my planning done by May in order to hand everything else over to dependable family and friends! I’m excited to be here reading things each day, and I’ve already found a bunch of really helpful tips. Keep up the good work!

Hi! I’m name is Dianne. I’m absolutely addicted to weddingbee ever since I found this site last summer. You guys have inspired me to DIY my own invitations! This site has been a great resource for everything wedding related.

I’ve been dating my FI since highschool and after 8 long years, we will be getting married June 21, 2008. (he has been in University the whole time, so we were waiting until he graduated to get married). We are currently living in Edmonton, Alberta but we will be getting married in our home town, Kamloops, BC at the fabulous South Thompson Inn & Guest Ranch.

My MOH is also getting married May 10th, 2008, and since I’m also her MOH, I’ve also been on here looking for ideas and inspirations for her bridal shower/bachelorette party.

We’re getting married on Friday, June 13th, 2008.

Hello weddingbee! I’m Aimee and I have been reading WB pretty much daily since mid-2005-ish. I’m orignally from Grand Rapids, MI, lived in Portland, OR, for a few wonderful years, and now reside in Sacramento, CA. Yay for Northern California!

I’m not officially engaged yet, though the Mr and I have pretty much figured out we want to get married in Italy in October. Probably in 2010. :( We’ve been dating and living together (I moved in on our second date) for seven years now, so what’s another couple, right?

I am a graphic designer and own Pear and Peony with my friend Kirsten, and the Mr will be an attorney come August after he passes(he better pass!) the bar. Weddingbee is one of the wedding sites that inspired me to finally take the plunge and start my business, so thank you WB! Also, now that I know we’ll be in Sacto for at least a few more years, I am starting the long and frustrating process of getting everything in order to open my chocolate shop.

I am totally addicted to reading about planning/looking at pretty photos of wedding stuff/living vicariously through you all, so keep it coming, Bees! :)

My turn! I’m Erica from Columbus Ohio…the only one so far in intros. We got engaged December 21st and I have no clue what I thought about before the engagement! I’m obsessed with anything wedding (especially this site!) We were getting married 8/8/08, but now he wants to build a house. Then we were getting married 4/4/09 (hence the username) but that’s March Madness…ugh and it will be too cold for my outdoor ceremony. (I’m in Ohio, remember) So, now we don’t have a date…yet. :) Thanks for having me!

I’m Elaine and I am definitely addicted to this site in a major way! I find myself reading Weddingbee more than working on some days!

I’m an accountant from LA and my wedding is in May 2008. My wedding day will be pretty crazy as there will be 2 tea ceremonies, 1 american style garden ceremony and a chinese banquet at night. Then it’s off to Hong Kong for yet another chinese banquet!

I’m extremely lucky to have a FI that is totally involved in every aspect of the wedding literally down to the color!!! He actually designed and assembled about 70% of our DIY invitations! Yes, he’s a keeper! hahaha

Being the crazy, anal accountant that I am, I have most of my wedding planned and even half of my invitations stuffed and waiting to mail in March. However, as I read about more and more things on Weddingbee, I find I want to add more and more projects to my list since I still have 4 months to go! Oh Weddingbee, you’re a bad/good influence. :)

We got engaged on July 10, 2007 and we’re getting married on October 10, 2009 in Las Vegas outdoor ceremony and indoor reception at a golf course. I love peonies, chocolate, and my root canal loving fiance! And of course WeddingBee!!!

mediagirl says:

Hello all! I’m late to this post, and just got married 1.5 weeks ago. Still have two receptions to go, though.

MY STATS:
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Age and Occupation: 27, Media Researcher
(new)Husband’s Age and Occupation: 28, Personal Trainer, Fitness Facility Manager
Engagement Date: June 28, 2006
Wedding Date: January 19, 2008
Venue: Tropical garden at resort in St. Thomas, USVI; reception in hometown in Kansas, reception in Indianapolis.
About Me: I’m a news and research junkie, I love politics and foreign policy. I also (paradoxically, perhaps) love fashion, shopping and girls’ nights out! I never really saw myself as someone who would really get into wedding planning, but as I got more involved and found sites like weddingbee that were less mainstream and cookie cutter, I found myself more interested and eventually, really excited about the process.

I love this site because in the midst of the commercial, white-bread and etiquette-oriented wedding planning industry, weddingbee is a bit of a breath of fresh air. Lots of culture and a wide variety of perspectives on here and it’s refreshing. Keep it up bees!
