We’ve Got Something In Common

January 30th, 2008 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Butterscotch

I love it when I see couples that have hobbies or similar passions in life in common. I have always thought sharing a common thread with your significant other actually helps bond you together in many ways. How many people do you know that started off as friends and then realized how much they had in common, and fell in love!

Mr. Butterscotch and I share a lot of common interests. One of our passions in life is we both love to travel! I think we are both happiest when we are out of town, together of course :) . I am currently busy dropping hints on where I think we should go for our 1 year anniversary trip, but more on that in another post. Mr Butterscotch has even shared his favorite hobbies with me to the point were I actually enjoy them also. Who knew I would actually not dread the start of basketball season!

Our friends Ambra and Andre have recently inspired me to find more for Mr Butterscotch and I to do together. Ambra and Andre were married back in 2006. In fact, her knot bio was a bio of the week on weddingbee at one point. Their love story is inspiring - they had their very first kiss on their wedding day! But recently they also started sharing hosting duties for their online radio show. They have interesting discussion topics and the two of them together make the show fun! I mean just look at the commercials they made for their show!

What hobbies do you and your fiance/husband share a passion for? Have you started started enjoying something that he loves that you never thought you would?

He just ran his first half marathon 2 weeks ago. It’s something I’ve enjoyed for the last 4 years. He hates running, but accidentally made the comment that he’d try one. We were signed up the next day! He pretty much hated every minute of training, but knew how excited I was for him to experience a race! I started crying when we crossed the finish line cause I was so proud of him - and knew he’d done it just for me :) He even said he’d run another one! (Once he gets his IT band issue healed up!)

Dogs. (not sure if this is a hobby) He came with a dog. I never thought I’d ever enjoy being a dog owner! Now we have two! I really do enjoy having them as part of our family :) All my friends are in shock :)

I doubt he’ll ever start stampin, quiltin, or craftin - he still can’t figure out why I need all these supplies!

My FI got me started on World of Warcraft, console games, and cribbage. I got him into old movies, international cooking, and poker.

On a side note, your friend Ambra is freaking gorgeous! She looks like Jada Pinkett-Smith. :)

We now play racquetball together and enjoy walking. He bought me a driver so I could go to the driving range with him. We like being active together and going to see live music, whether it’s the symphony or a dancehall.

He never thought he liked cats until he met “my” cat. Now we have another one that’s “ours” (and particularly his little baby).

we both like video games. while he’s a methodical “learn the buttons” type of player i’m the “button masher” which he HATES especially in fighting games since he can’t formulate a consistent defense against my spastic ways. plus, i’m sure he gets tired of hearing me ask for time to relearn the buttons. lol. we’re also both readers and are into travelling, which i can’t wait to start doing with him once we’re in a better financial state.

otherwise we tolerate each other loves. he talks computers all day long while i just know the basics [but i’m still excited by some of what he shows me] while he patiently sits and listens to me drone on and on about sports. lol, good times.

My husband started shooting weddings with me this summer! I wasn’t sure about having his help at the start but now I think it is so FUN! Plus it is much easier having him carry some of the gear. Jon is an amazing muscian and I really wish sometimes that I was talented in the music dept. It would be so fun to be able to JAM together in the basement.

My fiance got me into a healthier lifestyle. We go to the gym and love working up a sweat together. And the bonus is that I’ve lost 20 pounds since meeting him, hurrah! :)

Also, Mrs. Butterscotch — Ambra’s bio made me cry! Um, yes, at work. Sheesh. It was so beautiful and inspirational. Thanks for posting it.

Writing books and renovating :) In the 3 1/2 years we’ve been together, we’ve written two books and renovated a condo and some of our new house. I always had an interest in writing, dreamt of being a journalist, but my husband helped make that dream come true. I’ve also learned a lot about renovations, so much so that the router is “my” tool, lol.

I loved that knot bio too! And their commericals were so funny! You should guest star in one. I was up way too late watching you on Bee TV last night!

oddly, Mr. Caramel and I have almost nothing in common but liking each other. we embrace each other’s different passions and are supportive, but otherwise we are quite different! And if we do like the same things, like eating out or traveling, they’re always different things! I do hope that our love for different things will eventually rub off and make ourselves more well rounded. :)

My fiance and I have a ton in common. We have some friends who don’t seem to have anything in common whatsoever.

I always hear people complain about their significant other not wanting to see movies with them, or go shopping with them or whatever. However, my fiance and I are so alike in tastes that we always want to see the same movies.

We are both huge nerds, totally into sci-fi (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Stargate, Firefly, Eureka…), both love video games (we love co-op games and also play Halo online all the time). We both hate animals, love British comedy, love House but get grossed out by the needles and scalpels, hate horror movies, love cartoons. Heck, a lot of our food tastes are really similar. We both hate onions with a passion, as well as tomatoes. We both love sushi, Thai food. We are both picky with food, but our pickiness is similar so it makes cooking for us both easy. We both have very similar goals in life (we were both the same major in college and have jobs in the same field) and we both love kids.

I love how much we have in common and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love that we both get excited about the same movies and we play games together. I love that our similar jobs make him a perfect person to get advice from and I love that he asks me my advice with his work as well.

We love cosmology and quantum physics so together we discuss and watch some very nerdy shows, e.g. “The Universe”. We also like going to theatre, eat similar foods, and we both have a major addiction to coffee. We also love lateral thinking games and can spend hours playing them with my siblings.
