About Mrs. Hummingbird

You + Mii = Wii!

January 30th, 2008 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Hummingbird

For our three year anniversary, Mr. Hum and I decided to make a serious investment together - we decided to buy a Wii. It wasn’t easy. With them being out of stock throughout the city, it took us about a month and a half to finally track one down, but when we did, well, our little video game family finally felt complete. I am nowhere near the gamer Mr. Hum is but I love the interactivity of the Wii and the fact that I can totally pummel his ass at Mario Party as Yoshi (I almost always pick Yoshi or, if I’m feeling girly, Princess Daisy). But aside from my love of the system and all of its games, I totally love passing the time making Miis. Mr. Hum and I got so carried away one day, we made our entire families and a bunch of our neighbours in Mii form because it’s just such a blast.

Anyway, I was blog surfing today when I came across what may be one of the coolest cake topper ideas ever - Custom Miis by Paul Pape! Not only are they super cute, but you can pick the level of formality of your liking!

Since I know there are a lot of other geeky-gamer girls out there, I thought I would share this, because seriously, I totally love it and might just order one for fun after the wedding. Go check it out!

(Props to Manolo for the Brides where I first read about this.)

too cute hummingbird! We’ve had a Wii for over a year now. Yes, Mr. Lovebird and I were one of those couples who camped out (not once, but twice!) to get it when it first came out.

Did you notice while making the Miis that girls are so much harder to make than guys? The guy Miis always turn out looking much closer to real life than the girl Miis. Is it just me?

I think it’s the lack of good hair options for the ladies. For some reason, they seem to have a lot of old-lady or just plain weird hairstyles.

The toppers are adorable!

Lovebird, I totally noticed that! But I think maggie’s right - it’s a hair thing. It’s hard to pick a do that doesn’t somehow resemble 1950s heavily sculpted helmet hair.
Gwen, I have seen the chocolate ones but I thought they were on backorder. Are they available again?

ohmygosh - that’s me (and my husband, of course)! we found Paul Pape a few months before our Oct. 07 wedding and fell in love with the cake toppers. he was great to work with and everything arrived on time and in perfect condition. we loved the toppers & our guests did too!

it was such a nice surprise to see a photo of our miis on weddingbee…especially since this is my favorite site to visit (even post-wedding!). thnx!

Well, that decides the cake topper! I had been casually looking and thought they were all quite blah.

we’re the “mid” sample.

we were quite proud of our miis when we made them and since our family and friends were ‘wii-crazy’ (and still are), the cake topper just seemed so perfect.

Wii boxing was some of the most fun I’ve had with my FI. I’d seen these before but wasn’t sure about it. Now I’m really wanting them!

We bought a wii at Christmas time. All I do is play guitar hero ALL THE TIME now. I plan on incorporating guitar hero into my music class (I’m a high school band teacher) so that I can get some wii time during day time hours too. Didn’t you say you had a wedding to plan Miss Hummingbird? ’cause now you aren’t going to do any planning unless it is somehow attached to your wii. ;)

OMG…so freakin cute! I’m going to see if my Aunt can make them for us…$200 seems a bit steep for a cake topper.

i’ve met Paul…he is an amazing person. crazy smart. he made our original mii figurines and will be making our wedding topper (along with a tiny mii version of our dog!)
granted, $200 IS pretty steep for a cake topper, but all the miis are hand sculpted and painted by one guy and i can tell you they are REALLY well made. also, i think these are way more displayable (in a video game centered home anyway) than a lot of other cake toppers out there.
also, if you’re REALLY nerdy, he could whip up a WoW cake topper as well, or a model of your FI’s avatar would make an awesome wedding present.
OH, and the deluxe mii model? they have tiny magnets in the hands so they could be separated…but why would you want to? they’re so cute together!

This made me giggle a little… I actually have known about the Mii cake toppers for a little while now.. Guess where I found them from?? That’s right! A weddingbee post!

It was in a comment on the lovely Miss Petunia’s post about her “Cake Me’s”.. Oh irony…

And I believe this post was left by Shannon D up there, so thank you, Shannon D!

But yes, I’m totally doing this for our topper. Nothing else has caught my attention at all like this one has. Too cute!
