About Mrs. Toucan

The Boy Liked The Wedding Mall!

January 31st, 2008 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Before our trip to Hong Kong, I was told by many people to go check out the wedding mall.
What?! There’s a wedding mall?!Oh yes, in Hong Kong, there’s a whole mall dedicated to wedding stuff.
Why isn’t there one in the US? Beats me - there should be wedding malls everywhere!

Anyway, at the news of the the existence of this wedding mall, I felt obligated to go. After we finished touring for the day, I dragged Mr. Toucan and some others on to the subway to go here:

Shops for dresses, shoes, invitations, photography, travel agencies, make-up artists… so on and so on. If it was wedding related, it was there. Five floors filled with wedding goodness.
Like I said, why don’t they have this in the US? Seriously, it would make things SO much easier!

Anyway, as much as Mr. Toucan didn’t want to go to the wedding mall, I think he really had a good time! I think it partially had to do with me not really buying anything (the only thing I had purchased was our guest book/signing cloth). It partially had to do with the fun toys he found.

Mom Toucan and I were looking at hairpins, and all of a sudden, I see Mr. Toucan speeding around the corner with a big goofy smile on his face.

Him: Hey, Miss Toucan! What are those stuffed dolls for? (pointing to a shop with tons and tons of dolls on the wall)
Me: Oh, people decorate the wedding car with them.
(visual for you):
Him: (really excited) Oh. Okay. Are we going to get them?
Me: I wasn’t really planning on it, why?
Him: Oh. Because I found the MOST AWESOME ones EVER. (at this point he’s grabbing my hand and dragging me down the hall)

*****we arrive at the shop*****

Him: (SUUUPER excited now) LOOK!!! MARIO AND PRINCESS PEACH!

*****he sees me not super excited like him*****
Him: Well, of course we’ll find a bigger Princess Peach. (Princess Peach is about half the size of Mario - if even that)
Him: (to my mom) Can you ask the lady about the dolls?
***** In Chinese*****

Mom T:Do you have these dolls in the same size?
Shoplady: No, that’s how they come. They are just like that (shows us a picture of the Mario and Princess on a car)
Mom T: But, how come? Mario’s so much bigger.
Shoplady: (in a very straight face, not joking) Mario is bigger because he just ate the mushroom.

Um… okay…. riiiiiight.

I broke the bad news to Mr. Toucan. I could tell he was a little bit saddened (figures, all the things he likes best about wedding planning have had to do with toys and/or video games). Despite this and my attempts to get him to buy a Chinese groom’s outfit, Mr. Toucan surprisingly had a really good time at the wedding mall! It ended up being kind of educational for all of us to see all the little details that go into Chinese weddings.

Was there anything wedding-related that your groom surprisingly enjoyed?

Omg lol! If I had been drinking milk when I read “because he just ate the mushroom” I would have just spit it all over my computer.

I totally would have gotten the dolls anyways- anything that gets a man hyped up about a wedding is a good thing ;)

HAHA, I wish you all could have been there. The line about the mushroom was so much funnier in Chinese! That… and there was a hand gesture of her eating something…

CB, OMG… we could have TOTALLY been there at the SAME TIME. That would have been crazy!

Mary… that’s a GOOD IDEA! Thanks! :)

I snapped a couple pictures in the mall and was told to delete them. :( But at least Mr. Toucan had fun! My FH refused to go - he’s all anti-overthetop-HK culture =P

I totally visited that mall when I went home over Thanksgiving. Miss Toucan I think we got the same guestbook cloth! I love it! We had our names and the date embroidered on it too. It came out fantastic.

I didn’t get a stuffed animal to decorate our car though…I wanted one but just couldn’t find the right one.

Christine,
I don’t remember the exact address (though I will try to look it up when I get home), but it’s by the Prince Edward MTR stop.

That bit about the mushroom cracked me up! I want a wedding mall in the US!

My fiance absolutely loved registering- at least for the first 30 min:) I gave him full control of the scanner gun, and that was enough for him. And seriously- who knew a guy would get so excited about picking out his specific pepper grinder, spatula, and dish wand?

It’s a must visit place if you plan to visit hk to buy some wedding related items! I was there a couple weeks ago too! we ordered our invitations and party favors there…ended up to be less than $1.50 each. If you plan to go there, get off at the Prince Edward mtr stop, look for the exit signs where it says “Allied Plaza” i think it’s Exit A but i’m not positive. After you exit, walk straight and make a right at the intersection, go straight, you’ll need to cross to the other side of the busy intersection; the mall is literally right in front of you. You won’t miss this mall; it has large pictures of brides on the outside wall. If you plan to take engagement photos, you should take it at France Bridal (www.francebridal.com). The staff are very professional!

I remember going to our second venue and surprisingly found my fiance 100% sure of the fact that THIS venue was IT. I was surprised that he felt so adamant about that particular decision - and he was right, it was definitely the one!

Where in HK is this wedding mall? I’m going over in a few months time and wouldn’t mind getting all my stuff under one roof.
