I’ve Been Dumped!

February 4th, 2008 @ 3:42 pm by Mrs. Shortcake

I don’t know how it happened. I thought we were so happy together. I thought we had an understanding.

How could it just END like this?

*BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAAAHAHHAHH snorgle sniff sniff*

I’ve been dumped - by my baker. After countless emails and mutual delight over details, she up and booked our date WITH SOMEONE ELSE. YEAH, I KNOW.

So now I am alone, without baker, without cake. Hopefully this is my first and last vendor break-up - I don’t think I can take the heartache again.

*SOB*

I need sugar.

CAKE PORN - STAT!

(via Mrs. Snow Pea)

Does anybody have similar tales of vendor breakups or….recommendations for bakers in the Lower Mainland (greater Vancouver)?

*sniff*

Oh my heavens, I totally thought you were going to say you’d been dumped by Mr. Shortcake, and I was wondering what IS IT with Vancouver men lately? (Mine would be the other dumper, and I now find myself wedding-less). Due to my recent single status, I would like to pass on my cake vendor research so it is not all for naught!

Sweet Thea (I don’t know what flavours you like, but her lemon cake is out of this world, and her flourless chocolate cake is good too). She is based out of New Westminster.

Also Sweet Cravings based out of North Van is excellent and we were going to book them - she had a great white chocolate and raspberry cake with whole raspberries baked right into the cake batter and the buttercream icing was just to-die-for. All I’d tried before was the buttercream on the cupcakes at Cupcakes, and Sweet Cravings will put that stuff to shame. Plus the baker for Sweet Cravings, Denise Brandon, is honestly the nicest lady on earth and has a couple of great policies. First, she will bake you a small cake in the same flavour as your wedding cake for your first year anniversary for free - you just have to call to remind her ahead of time. And in your wedding cake, she will let you have different flavours for every tier if you want for no extra charge. I thought that was great! She also comes highly recommended to me by two other girls I know who have used her cakes for their weddings and other special occasions.

I would avoid Cupcakes and Goldilocks like the plague. Gross and overpriced. Goldilocks actually still bakes with lard. Nasty.

I was just dumped by my DJ. :( And he’s a good friend! So bummed. He’s providing a replacement, but still. Not cool.

We just decided to go with Tartlets in North Van: http://www.tartlets.ca. It’s a one-woman shop and she is very talented, sweet and really reasonably priced.

April Cakes is pretty good. I especially liked her lemon curd cake with cream cheese frosting. http://www.aprilcakes.com/

SHE WHATTED YOU? WHAT A HO! Do I need to come up to Canada and punch someone or what? How rude of her to dump you. Did you show her the ladies? That would have worked on me. I would have baked you a cake for free after the Ta-Ta goodness.
