About Mrs. Hydrangea

Here She Is…

February 5th, 2008 @ 3:26 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

About a week and half ago, I went for my first dress fitting. I was fortunate enough to have my measurements taken when they were having the Junko Yoshioka trunk show at Blush Couture. Because I have some curves, they decided to do custom measurements on me, which can cost up to $500, but they did it for free because the designer’s rep was there. I couldn’t wait until the dress came in so I could see how it looked on me (not just the one size too small sample).

When I first stepped into my gown, I almost started crying, but not out of happiness. It was big, I mean REALLY big. Custom measurements and this is what happens? I might have lost a little weight, but I definitely knew it wasn’t that much. After much reassurance from the seamstress and the owner of the bridal salon, I calmed down. All will be fixed and it’s much better to have it too big then too small. I just hope they can put some good padding in the bra because when Miss H loses weight, it comes off the top first :(

And here was my first fitting in my dress:

I really am happy with it. The dress definitely needs some adjustments, and I need a little toning, but I can’t wait to see what it is going to look like when all is said and done!

Beautiful!! Reminds me of my dress, actually. Is the main part silk mikado? LOVE that fabric paired with satin, and the shape of the skirt. Fit will make a huge difference and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job altering it.

Measurements are generally done just to determine the size. The custom measurements means they are mixing sizes, such as a size 8 bust with a size 12 hip. You can take a dozen size 6 girls and each body will have a different fit and different proportions, which is why almost every wedding gown will need alterations. The only way a gown will fit your body exactly on the first try is if the designer offers a custom muslin. This is where you would try on a very plain and basic version of the dress made out of a very cheap fabric (muslin). A seamstress would then fit that to your body, and then the muslin would go back to the designer and the pattern cut from that. It looks like your fitting should be very easy. Take in the straps to pull the bust into place, take in a bit on the princess darts, and let the hip out a touch. Depending on the heel height and if you are standing on a stood, you may not even need much of a hem.

Good luck,

Girl, beautiful dress, but I hope that you were not expecting an original when it came to it, because I just pulled the pics from my sisters wedding and she has the EXACT same dress, neckline, hem back and all.. WoW…have some taste though huh?

good luck
