Love For Kenzie Kate

February 5th, 2008 @ 2:37 pm by Mrs. Chickadee

Word to the wise: Do not order samples from your favorite invitation company when you don’t actually have the money to order them… unless you want to end up like me.

See, it all started when Mrs. Bee posted about the gorgeous invitations over at Kenzie Kate. Being a big fan of something old, something new, I had seen the website before. But Mrs. Bee’s post happened to coincide with my recent decision not to make my own invitations, so I checked it out again.

I was playing around on the site, admiring the beautiful designs when I came across the The Palm Springs design. Needless to say, it was love at first sight.

So I thought I would order a sample. It was inexpensive and so easy. How could a girl resist? I’d almost forgotten I’d ordered them until I found the package in my mailbox today. And boy oh boy was I in for a treat.

I knew from the beginning that the Kenzie Kate invitations were just a bit too rich for my blood, but I can’t help but gush about them a bit, for any of you brides still looking for those perfect invites.

This is what I found when I opened the package: complete with chocolate colored tissue and a note from Mackenzie herself.

Yes, it is as pretty in person as it looks on the Kenzie Kate site. The yellow is bright and vivid, perfectly paired with the modern grey pattern. And the ribbon accent? Just too cute for words.

The site allows you to choose two invitations to be sent in the sample, so I also got Aberdeen because it was so pretty.

It turns out Aberdeen is just as dreamy, with creamy cardstock and rich colors. Mr. Chickadee actually liked this one better than the Palm Springs!

So, anyone out there choosing Kenzie Kate for your invites? Which design did you go with?

Or, anyone like me and fall in love with something completely impractical? Come on, tell me all your guilty wedding pleasures!

I definitely have too many guilty wedding pleasures to name!

The invites are super cute though - I love the ribbon!

I did the same thing! I wanted to see what my favorite KenzieKate invites looked like up close and WHOA boy are they fabulous. I’m dying to have letterpress invitations, but so far I just think my parents (who are helping pay) will balk at the price. I’m a graphic designer so I think it is totally worth it, but I know they will laugh in my face.

My other guilty wedding pleasure is dreaming to have a dress custom-made that looks the one Marion Cotillard wore to the SAG awards. I doubt that will happen either!

ooo.. i love kenzie kate invites. They are so pretty. I not even going there… ordering samples when I know I can’t afford it… I can already see the scenario of Mr.F screaming in my ear … :D

I think they are absolutely stunning… and if I had to splurge then, kenzie kate would be it! Now I have to design my own invites… somebody shoot me.

I totally feel your pain! I fell in love with completely out of the question Vera Wang invites to the tune of almost $4,000 for 125. WHAT!!?!? Even if I COULD afford that, why would I want to? That just seems wasteful. So thus, I am left in invitation hell to figure out something else.

I made the mistake of trying on dresses without asking for the price first….You guessed it, I fell in love with the most expensive one. I figured out how to make it work, but I have definitely learned to check proces before moving forward:)

Or check prices, even. My spelling has apparently suffered with my sinus cold! What are you going to do for your invites now?

Yeah, I ordered the samples too, loved them so much that I went for her Paris invite. Lots of raves about it–totally worth the price (especially because Mackenzie will customize them for you–colors, text, etc). And, I figured, her prices are actually pretty reasonable when compared with letterpress or some of the other wonderful, custom invite designers out there. No regrets about that wedding decision!

Sadly, even though we have actually chosen our invitations I am still suckered into ordering yet another sample every time there is another link in the blogs. Hey, I still have time to change my mind, right?

Oooh, she designed the Palm Springs invitation for my friends’ wedding. Check out their pics - you can see some of the design elements: http://nextexitphotography.com/blog/?p=281 They didn’t use them, though, and went with another of her designs instead. Gorgeous invites!!

i also fell in love with kenziekate’s line but couldn’t afford it. so i designed my own KK inspired invites, complete with folder and ribbon accent. i gocco’d all the pieces, including a continuous pattern on the folder, so it took ages!! i was cursing myself during the process but now that they’re done i’m glad i did it.
