I wanted to have a “Here Comes the Bride” banner for my baby brother and my nephew to carry so that I could include them in the wedding somehow. They were a little too old to be ring bearers, plus we wanted to include Mr. Radish’s nephews as ring bearers, so we needed to find another “job” for my boys. I originally planned to get a banner from Here Comes Your Bride, but they stopped taking new orders in July. I heard that they have since closed up shop but I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

Anyway, I realized that it’d be easy and cheaper to just make one myself. Naturally, I waited until the week before the wedding to actually do it, though. It wouldn’t be fun if it wasn’t stressful, right? Luckily, my mom and my aunt decided to take over this project since I was so busy with other stuff.

My mom went and bought a yard of plain white, cotton fabric. The fabric was a little on the thin side and wrinkled easily, though, so if you are thinking of making one yourself you should go with a slightly heavier fabric that is more resistant to wrinkling.

We were going to try and paint the lettering on with fabric paint or maybe by heat transfer, but we were really running low on time, so my mom looked in the phone book for someplace that could either embroider it or print it. She found a place that could screen print it for $8. The only downside was that the type of printer they used had size limitations and the print couldn’t come out quite as large as I wanted it… but, again, when you wait until the last minute to do these things you can’t be so picky!

My aunt sewed a tab at the top and we just stuck a simple curtain rod through it for the “handles.” She sewed a wooden dowel rod into the bottom hem to give the banner weight to make it hang properly. It probably took her about 10 minutes to do it since all she had to do was sew a few hems.

… and here’s the finished product. Pretty cute, eh?

I’m not 100% in love with the way it turned out, but for the amount of time we spent on it, it’s fine. If I had more time I would have made the lettering larger and I think it would’ve looked better if they put “the Bride…” on the same line. Also, it was pretty wrinkled but I’m sure no one noticed or cared… it was no big deal. I didn’t even noticed it was wrinkled until I sat down and really looked at the picture to write this post!

Everyone seemed to love the banner, though, and thought it was really cute idea. No one at our wedding (that I know of anyway) had ever seen one before, so they all thought I came up with the idea myself… and I’ll admit that I didn’t correct them

Cost break down:

• 1 yard of cotton fabric - $2
• 1 wooden dowel rod - $1
• Text printing - $8
• Curtain rod - (already had it but I’m sure you could find one for less than $10)
